Collins is a up and down plodder really...nothing flash, no frills prop...thats it.

Is this different to Lodge? Although to be fair, Collins is probably on less than half the price, so yeah value wise it is hard to argue Collins wouldn't be a better option. Current ability wise, it is also arguable Lodge is better. Reputation wise, Lodge is better.

Collins is only 24 years old. If we signed him next year on a 4 year deal we'd be getting him at his absolute prime. I bet he is going to improve every year. In my opinion he needs a challenge like leading the Broncos up front.

I'm not against you, I want to clean out almost every over paid player on our list.

It's the best way to go about it. It feels like the salary cap is at a constant squeeze. Need a clean slate and then need to not make the same mistakes.

the Totonto wolfpack have been denied re-admission to the Super League ... so, would any of their players be worth pursuing?

Yeah, first comment is just me being modest with my knowledge.

Lodge is a better and more complete player. The new rules don't really suit his style as much anymore but I still think with time to work on his fitness that might improve too. Collins looks to be on the up but I think it's premature to say he's at Lodge's level just yet. From all reports Lodge also seems to offer some decent leadership capability/potential so that needs to be factored in to his value too.

The only way you'd argue that we'd be better off with Collins is if you're gambling that we could get him for around or just under $400k, which would put him at a little over half the contract value of Lodge. He's certainly more than half the player Lodge is and probably has some upside potential for the money so from a value perspective I could support that argument I guess, but that would be it.

Lodge is only 1 year older

Collins would offer no more at prop than any of our other main props. He isnt as good as Carrigan, Haas or Lodge. I'd go so far as to say if Flegler and Joffa play their best then both of them are better as well ( big if there though ). You can also throw Pangai into the mix. Our pack is the least of our worries at Brisbane, especially if we sign Asiata for lock so we can get Pat back to his best position.

Talk of signing a bloke like Collins on a 4 year deal is absolute madness and stupidity of the highest order. You think when you look at some of the contracts we have handed out in recent year people would have more sense than to want players tied down for so long who have proven nothing yet.

My biggest concern is that these idiots are actually going to tell 8 players to walk with no decent replacements. I’d rather not make any changes and give Kev a chance to coach them than to piss the whole squad off, force a few players out, pay big sums of their contracts and have no one but Kenners and Croft’s to take their places.

If I could get him for half the price of Lodge I might consider that a reasonable prospect. Certainly not for 4 years though and again, it would be contingent on the contract value being under $400k a season.

this.

we need to bide our time until quality players in positions we require, become available ... although we need to ensure Kevvie has the authority to make those moves as soon as they present themselves.

Our team is much better than they showed this year, albeit unbalanced. our results this year were due to coaching, injuries, COVID and mid season rule changes, most of which won't be the case for the 2021 season ... so even with no recruitment, we should be pushing for a spot in the top 8 (bottom half).

My God that is an optimistic and almost absurd way to spin our 2020.

We have some MAJOR problems with our roster and not all of that can be put down to injury or bad luck. We've also already lost the only Outside Back who showed any sort of attacking prowess for most of 2021 too. The rule changes will still also be there in 2021 and even if we improve here, we're coming from dead last in terms of how teams handled that in 2020, so it would be naive and even outright foolish to presume that will all go away in a single, shortened off season

Our spine and backline are incredibly thin on depth and quality and if we do not recruit in those positions as a matter of urgency then I think we'll be fortunate to run 9-12.

is the thought Carrigan and Hass will be starting Front Rowers if we sign Asiata ?

You'd have to think so. It leaves Lodge and one of Offa or Flegler to fight for the last middle spot in the 17. God knows what they'll do with TPJ if he ever makes it onto the field for two games in a row.

not at all ...

throughout 2020 we had a total of 21 players injured at some point (several long term injured players ... including our forward leader Lodge and a key spine member in Bird) ... we also had TPJ suspended for most of the season and Perese gone due to drugs charges.

I don't care whether the team is us, or the Roosters or the Storm ... any team with that amount of injuries would be unlikely to make the 8 (although the coaching of the Roosters or the Storm would keep them from the spoon)

a spine of Turpin, Dearden, Milford and Isaako/Bird is good enough to finish 6-8 especially with Kevvie coaching them
