I dont think you would pick up Collins for 60% of what lodge is on now he is a Queensland player. I think he would be looking at around that $500-600k a year mark. I'm not even convinced tbh Lodge is on this $700k plus he is rumored to be on.

Not having a go at anyone in particular here either, but i think with Lodge's injuries and our poor form people have forgotten a little just how good he is. He has done himself no favours playing injured and football fans do have short memories.

I'm not quite sure either how people think we can just release Joffa and Lodge and just swoop onto another club and get who we want. First issue is we cant just release players because we want somebody better. Without a good reason, we still carry them on the cap. Secondly, we then have to get clubs to release players, and thats not always easy.
I think you're forgetting how slow he is, and how the rules have changed. He was good in 2019, no doubt. But the game has sped up and he's slowed down. You can't compare 2019 form to 2020 form. The game is very different now.

Club shouldn't go chasing him if that is the case give him the offer if he doesn't like it let him see what clubs are prepared to offer him coming back from a knee injury.

Seriously, losing guys who want to mercenary themselves around will be a good thing in the long run, no matter how good they are, it shows a real lack of ability to be a team player.

Absolutely, I just don't want it to be true. Was one of our best this year and whilst he's got a bit to work on, he's someone I'd rather not lose.

I think Staggs sees himself as an elite center. He isnt at that level yet and i honestly dont think he has shown any signs of improving his average defence. I think $400k is about right for him as it stands, but he needs a contract that has the room to improve if he does.
Give him his choice of foot and he'd probs stay.

There a tough balance between keeping players who want to stay and don't shop themselves around and...not finishing outside the top 8. It works if the team has had plenty of success that makes players want to stay and other players want to join for unders. The less success you have, the less even currently "loyal" players will want to stay and the more you have to spend on quality players from other clubs. So as much as I want the club to take a harder stance, they have to actually be successful in the regular season to benefit from that too.

I really can’t be mad at these young fellas.

If they were brick layers and they did their apprenticeship at a company that had a shit culture, was failing, had a high senior management turn over, constantly pushed out guys who had been there for years, the quality of their output was publicly laughed at, with no real reason to believe things would improve and other companies were willing to pay you far more to work for them you would call them crazy not to take the offer.

In the current state of the club I can’t be mad at Fifita, or Staggs, or Nui, or any other player that gets a pay rise to leave the joke of the league. My dissatisfaction with these defections lies solely on the club.

I dont think people should be mad at them for chasing the money, its pretty much what all people do in life anyway. As a club, i wouldnt say we need to stand up to these players. but we should make fair offers to them, give them a reasonable deadline to sign by and if they dont, pull the offer and move on. We cant get messed around like we did with Fifita no matter how good the player.

Yeah definitely. The Fifita “negotiations” were embarrassing. Offer a fair price, give a reasonable deadline for a counter offer, accept counter offer or take the contract off the table.

Repeat after me, everyone.

Lodge. Was. Slow. Because. He. Had. A. Broken. Leg.

He's a big unit but has a great motor, I don't think the new rules hinder him at all. Not as much as, you know, a BROKEN LEG would.

Why would we have to pay half of Lodge's contract? Surely there is a club out there dumb enough to pay his full wage? No?

That's just not a realistic scenario. No club is going to take him on full wage when they can get him at a discounted price.

Lodge & Haas is the best and most promising front row pairing we've had in fucking years. It would be stupid to break that up just for some fringe forward.

All we're doing is losing players. This really is beginning to feel like a sinking ship. How fucking long are we going to be glued to the bottom?

Apart from Fifita who took a ridiculous offer, who have we actually lost?

No one that’s worth keeping.

People are just overreacting to the current situation. Apparently we’re going to lose Dearden and Staggs and Coates and all the others despite it being made clear that their preference is to stay.

Players always say they want to stay, but then they dont commit to anything.
