He was always going to leave, he needed to lock up a new longer term contract and buy himself some more time in the game, if he went into next year with us and no future deal locked up and then had another long injury his value is totally eroded and career was done.

These player options are killing us because we are signing them at premium dollars.

For lower mid tier deals they work to some extent. Oates option seems ok.

Bird going must clear up at least 600K for it to be worth doing. Somehow I don't think we will find out how much freight we will be paying. In future, lets just not give players an option . If killing it they reject it and go to market and if stinking it up they take up the option on overs.

I have argued this point before but I don't think we actually had cap space for Fifita, the offer would've been made knowing x players will have to go in order to slot him in.

That makes more sense. How they figured to create the space is beyond me given all the player options and the inability to move players on

What a fucking mess. Rehab Bird for 3 years on $800k only to move him on when finally fit to bring back an injured Macca, not leaving enough money to re-sign Staggs
