Broncos v Bulldogs Build-up thread

There is no way the Government would pay out for this sort of thing. It's in the interest of public safety.

Insurance wouldn't help unless you were put in hospital because of it.

Nashy, let's be real though. If this was REALLY in the interest of public safety, they would tell everyone and anyone to quarantine themselves if they have any type of Flu. Period.

The QLD Health Authorities KNOW that this flu isn't a killer (and probably won't ever be), but imagine the coverage they would get from calling off what is arguably the biggest game of the season? Broncos Vs Bulldogs, Friday night at Suncorp Stadium. "Oh hey look at us, QLD Labor government we've just recommended the NRL to call off the game, we care about the health and safety of the people of Queensland, we must be doing a great job!".

I disagree. I think they have more balls than the other states. The Cruise ship thing in Sydney proved they had no idea, Melbourne's toll proves they don't know what's going on. QLD clearly doesn't want this to spread. Especially with reports that it could grow immune to the drugs we have for it.

It's a far stretch, don't get me wrong. But they are doing what they are doing to protect the state. And if that means cancelling a Broncos match, then so be it.

Not to mention, imagine if the Health Department sat back and did nothing? With all this media coverage, they need to do something, or it is political suicide.

But then, I'm all for the game being postponed.

You only took one of my points out of that.

The biggest issue I see, is that no one really knows if this is going to mutate into something worse.

Game is on, regardless of what QLD Health says.

The Brisbane Broncos could be forced onto the field this Friday night regardless of whether full-back Karmichael Hunt tests positive for swine flu.

The entire Broncos squad and staff have been forced into isolation since Wednesday morning as the club and the National Rugby league (NRL) awaits confirmation on whether Hunt has the virus.

Results are not expected before lunchtime today.

If he does test positive, the Broncos have been advised to keep their players in quarantine for 72 hours, meaning they could not take to Lang Park to face the Bulldogs tomorrow night.

But Broncos chief executive Bruno Cullen says the NRL is proceeding as if the top-of-the-table show will go on.

"As far as the NRL are concerned they are pushing forward as if the game is going to happen," he said.

"That is their decision. We are just taking advice from Queensland Health and looking after the welfare of the players."

But Mr Cullen denied the NRL were putting any extra pressure on the Broncos to take the field.

"There is a game scheduled for tomorrow night. We are in that game and we expect that everything is all right and we will play the game," he said.

Mr Cullen has already indicated that a postponed match, possibly on Sunday or Monday, would be a logistical nightmare for television, crowds and future NRL fixtures.

Either way the Broncos are at a distinct disadvantage after not having a full training session since last Friday night's 48-4 smashing at the hands of Melbourne.

Mr Cullen says it is the most disrupting lead-up to a match he has ever encountered.

"We've got most of the coaching staff and some admin staff in lockdown," he said.

"All the players in lockdown, both NRL and under-20s. Of course it is a bit of media frenzy too.

"The preparation is far from ideal, you don't go from one game to another without training. In saying that it's an obligation we've got and the players will step out and do their best."

It is believed Hunt was exposed to the H1N1 virus while in Queensland Origin camp in Victoria after Maroons prop Ben Hannant tested positive after Game I last week.

Queensland Health has told the club there is a strong possibility Hunt has already tested positive for influenza A.

Brisbane's other State of Origin players, Darren Lockyer, Sam Thaiday, Israel Folau, Justin Hodges and Peter Wallace, have already been cleared of having swine flu after being isolated for three days earlier this week.

Nashy is speaking a lot of sense, whilst you Rocky are talking through your back pocket.

Who cares if it is a Labour Government, Qld Health would be doing the same thing if Liberal, National or Labour.

Channel Nine I believe will be sensible and do what is best, it all hinges on Hunt's result, if positive the game is changed, if negative he won't play but the game will still be on.

As for the result yes the break may do us good, but then again the distractions might lead to a flogging

Well no, QLD Government could easily forbid Channel 9 and the NRL having access to Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.

Can you imagine the corporate shit-storm that would occur if they did, Coxy?

Yeah, a heap of spokemen and women would be commenting to the papers from QLD Government, Nine and the NRL. All parties know there is no other venue the game can be played.

QLD Health have the final call, there is nothing the other two parties can do about it. If the NRL and Nine are happy to risk infecting 30,000 or so people, then good on them.

The Health Department will not.

Does anyone actually think that we will win if the game does go ahead? No Hunt, no training sessions all week etc.

Out of interest, does the quarantine mean that players and staff aren't allowed to attend Cyril's funeral?

No, I think we'll get aboslutely ripped apart again.

That would be correct if they are being strict about it.

So is Karmichael definitely out if he's cleared? Why? Is he still sick?

If he doesn't have Swine Flu he still has Influenza A, which is still pretty bad. I imagine he's still suffering from it.

As Ari said...you don't get over Type A flu in 2-3 days. Doctors would be advising him to completely rest for at least another 3-4 days.

Very real risk of potentially fatal complications if you physically exert yourself while still infected with influenza.

Hmm I thought he had it on Friday night and over the weekend...I only really care because of my NNRL team, lol.

I think he was starting to feel the effects of it on Friday. In any case I've had flu twice in the last two years and both occasions I was bed ridden for 5 days, and still unwell for 3 or 4 after.

On a lighter note, did anyone see Hunts picture on the front page of todays paper?

Rivals the one used up the top for this forum.... corker.

soft! I had the flu a couple of months ago, only hit me for 3 days. of course it still hasn't gone away. It's an annoying but mild flu this year.
