Broncos v Cowboys Trial - Live Score Updates

Ok subsbligh in light of that can you please go back through this thread and point out where anyone said that Norman is as good as Lockyer?

You must be blind if you don't see similarities with Norman and Lockyer IMO.

I didn't say anyone said Norman is as good as Lockyer; my point was that I am sick of people comparing Norman to Lockyer which was done throughout the thread.

The only "comparisons" I saw were about his style. Nothing more.
Just like a couple of years back people were saying there was something "Andrew Johns" like about how Ben Hunt plays. They weren't suggesting he'd be as good as Johns, simply that he was similar in the style of play.

I don't see anything wrong with the comparison of styles. Nobody is expecting Norman to do the same job to the same quality as Lockyer. No way in the world.

And on the game itself, I think it's important to note that Norman played left side. Most likely, if he gets the nod, he'll be playing right side where Locky was. A minor thing perhaps, but it does mean he'll be working with different players. Although, he'll be working with very different players from that reserve grade line up the Broncos used in their first trial anyway.

Let's not overstate anything. The Broncos won a trial with a substrength team against a substrength Cowboys team, and Corey Norman was the stand out. That's the facts. It means nothing more than that.

Let's see how he goes with the rest of the trials and, if he gets the gig, how he goes in the NRL proper.

Really?

From what I've seen, there is very little to compare Lockyer vs Norman at the same age, on the field or off the field.

In Lockyer's third season (1998) he was already the incumbent fullback for Qld and Australia. Norman has failed to build on the hype of the first quarter of 2010, got dropped back to the U20s and has stagnated there. Griffin wouldn't even risk him for the Manly preliminary final

For what it's worth it is totally unfair on Norman to make those comparisons.

I can't wait to be proven wrong and for him to have a breakthrough season. Only time will tell.

Again, you're comparing records. People are comparing playing styles.
HUGE difference.

Yeah, I don't think Norman will be anywhere near as good as Lockyer, he's just a very similar style of player. Even some of the basic details are similar - came into FG as a fullback first, left foot kicker, etc.

It is the way they play the game not how good they are at it that I believe is similar. Heck I think Norman glides across the turf a bit like Locky did. Similiarities are there IMO. I have exceptional eye sight.

Yeah right. For what it's worth I think Norman has a running game similar to Wendell Sailor. I don't mind comparisons but there must be more apt comparisons than Lockyer.

I can understand comparisons being something of a pet-peeve. It's a bit lazy and it always seems some junior is always going to be the next Alfie Langer, Wally Lewis, Peter Sterling, Andrew Johns or Brad Fittler when they just turn out to be a Park footy mainstay.

Yeah Norman might play a similar style to Lockyer, but he hasn't got da skillzz like Locky.
Norman's biggest asset is his long kicking game. His biggest problem is that he's a softock.
His running game is average. He's not going to tear teams apart with a step like Fitler or speed to get outside of his opponent like Lockyer. He can ball play but if he's not going to threaten the line then the oppoistion will read him like The Picture magzine on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Once again nobody is saying Norman will be the next Lockyer.

Now you are just taking the piss surely.

I know.

But why can't people just say he's got a good long distance kicking game or a good running game without saying without bringing Lockyer's name into the mix?

why can't it just be ok to compare a player to another player??
