I agree. Beale did his job and Locky unfortunately got in the way.

I hoped the kid would blow everyone off the park today, but he was pretty average tbh. He's great in space, but his defense leaves a bit to be desired.

I'm not trying to put the blame on Beale, or even on Copley who had an absolute shocker, but I can't help but feel Hoffman would have saved a couple of tries between both the Hoppa tries where Beale's cover was flimsy and especially the Ballin and Foran ones...

If Hoffman was playing instead of Beale, we'd be in a much better position to win IMO. All it could take is a good linebreak from him to turn the momentum around and bring some confidence to the side.

Beale and Copley weren't great tonight. I just don't think we turned up as a team. As long as we learn from it and bust our nut in the pre season we will get plenty of joy from this side in the coming year.

yup, plus we'd have the safety of Beale on the wing where Copley is a toss of a coin job.

i want to know who gets 5/8. My opinion just breed norman there, send lockyer to live with him for the off season and give him a few pointers and create a lockyer/norman hybrid, then locky can go be a family man.

Hook is a legend but I am not a fan of his use of Dave Hala over the last 4 or 5 weeks. Don't see much point in bringing him on with less than 10 minutes to go, and most times when the game is as good as over.

Wayne got it right with Hannant in 2006, when he'd bring him on after around 60 minutes for a 15 minute cameo. Gets some fresh legs out there against tired forwards when there is still something to play for.

Hes not just a runner. He can kick, pass and run but can't defend.

as easy as it is to blame the refs, we've got to take responsibility for our own performance. having said that, was our performance a direct result of the APPALLING refereeing we copped early on? the two penalties that led up to that first try were disgraceful imo. not to mention some of the other decisions.

but having said that - we didn't do ourselves any favours. we got ourselves into a good position and then threw it away. gillett booted it out on the full and that changed everything. should of been a low stab kick to a corner.

i think gillett at six was a bad call. there was absolutely NO direction from anyone when we got close to the line. jamie lyon may have made an amazing tackle to save that gillett try but we were very lucky to even get that close on that play.

yep. When was Hala most effective this year? Against Dragons when he came on in the last 15 minutes of the first half, scored a barnstorming try and turned the game in our favour.

Gagai will be a never was. So weak in defense it isn't funny. He will go to Union and suck at that as well.

I did toss up the idea of Beale at 5/8th next year but I think rather than trying to get him more involved, the priority would be to get Copley less involved. I don't like to be too harsh on our players but his performances over the last 2 weeks have been shockers. Dropped the sitter from Lockyer last week, a few costly mistakes tonight, IMO he looks like that player who is too good for QCup, but not NRL standard. A bit like Nick Parfitt.

So obvioulsy Hoffman back to fullback, Beale back to the wing and a toss up between Hunt and Norman.

At this stage I'd lean towards Hunt. He's had a good amount of first grade experience now and that will be priceless. I think he is ready to make the step up.

It's always tough to handle a loss in such a big game, so much was riding on us coming out out of such a hard game as last week and to expect such a young team to continually step up is hard ask for even the best teams to do. Sure the ref gave us a hard time with a few soft penalties early in the game but we started the second half very poorly and that was a deciding factor. Manly took their chances and we didn't, we had 3 bombed tries all of which were decisive. At this stage Manly have a great mixture of both youth and experience and it showed tonight. Most of us in our hearts didn't think that we could get over the top of them and if we were going to it would have been on the back of converting, what we knew would be limited opportunities.
