Broncos v Manly Post Match Venting

I did toss up the idea of Beale at 5/8th next year but I think rather than trying to get him more involved, the priority would be to get Copley less involved. I don't like to be too harsh on our players but his performances over the last 2 weeks have been shockers. Dropped the sitter from Lockyer last week, a few costly mistakes tonight, IMO he looks like that player who is too good for QCup, but not NRL standard. A bit like Nick Parfitt.

So obvioulsy Hoffman back to fullback, Beale back to the wing and a toss up between Hunt and Norman.

At this stage I'd lean towards Hunt. He's had a good amount of first grade experience now and that will be priceless. I think he is ready to make the step up.

And we have a readymade reserve hooker in place with Baptiste, so Hook can keep his 9 rotation.

Hoffman at 1 and Beale at 2 is a must IMO. But then, Reed is too slow to be a centre, so maybe Beale at 3 and Gagai at 2, and Reed left right out? :P

I think Gagai offers more than Copley at wing any day. He's 100x more dangerous with the ball but he's still going to be second choice so long as we have a fit backline.

But he's not even as safe as Copley, who I can't bear to watch catch a high ball as it is.

Disappointing game but we simply didn't bring our best. We had more than enough opportunities to win - in fact I was shocked at how poor some of Manly's defence was, especially in the middle 1/3 of the field - but our execution killed us. Reed should've scored instead of Copley knocking on, Gillett should've scored instead of being held up.

This sucks. It'd be best to get some sleep and not think about forty for a while. Great atmosphere at the game. I hate Manly crowd. Eagle Rock is so annoying and the lame losers chanting Maaannnnnlllllly over and over again. Grrrrr

Ben Hannants been a major flop this year. Don't even remember any decent games he has played this year considering the coin he is on.

Would have to agree. He was hitting his straps before Origin started but since then has been in career-worst form.

Yup. From the first tackle tonight, got dominated. Hannant needs to HTFU. If Petero is fit for round 1, I'd bench Hannant. McGuire and Civoniceva to start.

guys can someone tell me - was the reffing that bad? i HATE to be one of those types to blame it. but it was disgusting wasn't it? i keep trying to tell myself its just my bias. i feel like the precedent was set before we even got a look in.

It was frustratingly bad in that, you can't really say it cost us the game, but those calls were crucial in the context of the game. We had Manly on the back-foot after a great kick and chase and they penalised the Broncos the first opportunity they could get.

It was abysmal. It didn't cost us the game, but it gave them such a flying start it made our job all that much harder.
Doesn't take away the fact we were soundly outplayed, but one wonders whether we would've got into more of a rhythm if we'd had a fairer start. We'll never know.

We were never going to come back from that when 10!!! of the 17 players on the paddock were in their first or second year of first grade.
Admittedly, Thaiday, Hodges and Parker didn't help either. Locky has to give them a crash course in "calm and collectedness"!

Don't know why people are getting crook at Corey for? Thought he was head and shoulders above the rest, always took it forward and made mature decisions with the ball in hand.

Apart from the silly penalty, Thaiday was fine.

Hodges never got any quality ball.

It's nothing specific. They didn't seem to show any real leadership on the field though. did their individual jobs without actually trying to give the reassuring and guiding words the young guys needed.

I disagree though, I thought Parker and Thaiday did their best to inspire the troops. None of us would know what was said on the try line, or what the communication was like on field or what was said at half-time. What was very noticeable was the lack of structure, and that's a halves problem more than anything else.

Yep, and while everyone will point to Gillett being the wrong selection, huge amount of blame has to go on Wallace's shoulders. He didn't aim up. Geez I hope he aims up next year.

We all knew that Wallace wasn't a player who takes control of a game, he's more like a filler....only not as harsh I guess.
