Broncos v Manly Post Match Venting

He might not have been bad but he was so far behind DCE it's not funny.

Nothing epitomised that more than his cross field kick going in goal to be easily snaffled by Manly. Next set, DCE puts up a bomb from 40m out that Foran catches on the goal line to score.
That cross field kick was horrible, but Wallace put up a few bombs where Manly ran interference rather well (nothing like that scummy Hornby though), but they also were poorly chased frankly. In one of them, Hopoate almost tore us a new one!

A fair comparison would be Rd 26 with tonight, and while DCE was good in Brisbane, he also had all the luck in the world when that kick bounced of the post and gave Manly some momentum. Wallace was today as good as DCE was in Brisbane imo...

In DCE's defence, he went really well in Rnd26 against us as well.

^^^ This.

Not got the knives out for Wallace at all. He's had a good season and deserves to be the first half chosen for us next year (whether it be 6 or 7). But I do look at a player like DCE and think we're behind the game already.

Really hope a combination of Wallace-Hunt or Wallace-Norman brings something out next year.

He was pretty mixed that day, recall him bombing a try, failing to find touch and coming up with a few silly errors.

Same thing with Wal tonight.

Yeah, but let's not let facts get in the way of a good rant...

gahh. im still dirty. i feel we were rubbed out of the game before we even had a chance. we then weren't good enough to come from behind. and that six day break might of been a bit of a killer when the warriors were given 8.

Yes, Wallace needs to have a 'dynamic' type of player alongside him in the halves, as I think he's far too static in how he plays.

If that makes sense...

Anyway, I've had a #### of afternoon/evening... good old Sydney traffic. Left home around 3:30, with a GPS ETA of 5:30. Didn't get there until just after 7. It seriously took me about one and a half hours to travel a distance that normally takes 15-20 minutes. Also, whomever designed Sydney's roads is a complete ####ing moron.

Beale didn't injury lockyer, Lockyer head butted Beales knee. It is Lockyers fault he was injured not Beales FFS. You ######s wake up, stop blaming the kid and blame the man.

Agreed. Lockyer never should have been that close to Beale imo. I don't think there we even any chasers comeing through that close to Beale.

Yep, and while everyone will point to Gillett being the wrong selection, huge amount of blame has to go on Wallace's shoulders. He didn't aim up. Geez I hope he aims up next year.

Exactly. When is Wallace actually going to stand up in a big game and have a blinder? He played OK in patches last night, but was far from good. If there was ever a night for him to stand up and show what he's got it was last night.

He just can't seem to cope when he's the go to man. He has a good game every now and again, but it seems to be when Lockyers in the team to take the pressure off him.

I'm really concerned about next year. Someone in the backs is going to need to take over Lockyers organisation and control, and I'm not sure Wallace or Norman is the man. I'm almost defintely sure it's not Wallace from everything he's shown since he's been at the club.

NO, NO, NO, NO!!!

What more did you really want Wallace to do?? He was our only option as kicker and nobody ever goes to the line with him. The Gillett selections absolutely rooted our attacking structure and in the end killed us. Wallace wasn't good but he wasn't bad and gave his all. He won't ever be the player we expect him to be IMO. He needs a proper halves partner not some backrower with skills.

You guys should start up your own competition so you can win Premierships again.

You guys should start the NSWRL up again, so Melbourne wouldn't be in your comp to beat you next week.

I'd rather lose in a prelim final, than get beaten in a GF. At least Tony Williams and Steve Matai won't have to endure that feeling.

I really don't think Copley was that bad. He accidentally cost us a try with a falcon and that pass he dropped was impossible to take so blame Reed for that. He has been breaking the line a bit on kick returns and that catch he took to score was a screamer, also made a good run late in the game that if supported properly would have resulted in a try.

I was wondering who would step up as onfield leader, answer, nobody.

Wallace is a ranga version of Shane Perry, he sees a game really well but he just isn't fast enough with hands or feet to take advantage and his kicking game is not good enough often enough.
Hodges is a waste of salary cap and next year will be his last IMO, Hannant is not the player he was, the game takes a physical toll on players his size, his best place is off the bench.

As for the game itself, agree the refs smashed us in the first 20, game over, the play the ball for the first try ( technically Ballin did a double movement ) the third marker call was a giveaway that Stayne was after us, Sammys play the ball etc.

Manly are a good side and hard to beat, but impossible when gifted momentum like that.

I rarely criticise refs but v Dragons and last night, they quite deliberately went out to make sure there was a Sydney team in the GF. The penalties against us in the first 20 were sham, the sort you see in under 16 games. FFS in finals football you shouldn't penalise slight technical infringements - except against the Broncos.

The only reason we los was the bad luck of losing Locky when we needed him most - finals footy. That pressure also utterly destroyed Copley and Beale.

Further, I have been critical all year of the Broncos attack. It lacks variety and relies too heavily on a few pet plays instead of a repetoire of well rehearsed set plays - the sort Manly and the Dragons use. I hope Hook looks at that next season. It's one of the reasons Hodges is such a ball hog. He plays like a back rower not a centre cos he is rarely given any room. This side needs to learn how to create space on both sides.
