Broncos Vrs Raiders; Build up thread

No no no no no!!!

I know it's important we give Hoffman some time at fullback, but I think it's equally important we give Ben Hunt some time at halfback. And any time he can spend in the halves with Lockyer will be a tremendous experience for him. \

Wouldn't be an issue if we just dropped MIchaels, moved Copley to centres and Hoffman to wing.

If we can match it with them in the forwards (a big ask) then we should cover them with our backline.

Wait a minute, we have a forward pack? [icon_ee

This is definately not a dig at you Mick but we as posters on this board obviously have no idea about footbal if we are saying in these threads the forwards are crap, they need to stand up etc etc as low and behold we go into our POTS forum and there we have 4 forwards miles ahead in the BHQ Player of the Year.

Granted it seems only 1 if we are lucky 2 forwards step up each week, but for mine it is our halves that have let us down this year, and it's got nothing to do with playing behind a beaten forward pack.

Easy solution - drop Karmichael Hunt, Hoffman/Beale to fullback, Ben Hunt to halfback.

Seriously, why should we not drop Hunt? He's not going to be here next year, has been in cod-ordinary form, and doesn't look like he even wants to play. Give Hoffman or Beale the chance to get some game time under their belts, as they are our future, Khunt is not.

+1

id be all for grooming hoffman if wallace was right to play. whilst we have a young #7 and relativley inexperienced #9 i think hunt should get the nod at the back.

I think we probably need to keep playing Hunt as long as our season is capable of being recovered (by that I mean limping into the finals), but almost by the hour i'm becoming more in favour of the idea of demoting him for Hoffman sooner rather than later. And if we go down in the next couple of games I believe that option should be taken straight away, no questions. Throw Hunt on the bench like they do in Origin, he'll probably be happier sitting down anyway.

Given the circumstances the club is in form and (comparatively) talent-wise, any experience our young blokes playing in key positions can get is crucial. In years past when a newbie - like Hunt - slipped into a position left by the departure of another player, he would've had a large number of experienced players around him to cover his coight. So throwing them in the deep end as Wayne used to do wasn't that risky a practice.

Not so these days.

Whoever our new fullback will be, and I guess we're all assuming it'll be Hoffman, its in the club's best interests to get them as many first grade games under the belt as possible.

The Broncos can still win the Premiership so KHUNT should play if we end up losing a few to many game sI say let KHUNT leave early so we can blood more young guns..

Couldn't agree more.

I hope Ben Hunt hasn't been shunned from the 17. He should at least play the bench, so if KHunt doesn't perform to start with we've got someone there to take his place, or if we're leading by 30 with 15 to go (preferred option) BHunt can go out there without any pressure.

Couldn't agree more, mate. Very well said - I think 2009 is all but over for us in any event, so let's give some kids the experience before next year.

Have to agree. Ben Hunt and and Hoffman are our future, no Karmichael.

I am going to be at this game. I have borrowed an AFL NSW/ACT Development polo shirt and a clipboard off a mate and I'm going to quiz whoever is sitting next to me about Canberra's full forwards and Brisbane's ruckmen, taking notes and shouting 'Ball!' at inappropriate times.

Ben Hunt def doesn't deserve to be dropped, especially with him playing inside Lockyer it's the first time he's actually had a chance to play 1st grade with a decent 5/8 with him.

from what i have read, it seems Ben Hunt will still be on the bench, and in that case i expect him to come on and Hunt to either move back to fullback or into the backrow

his stats from the player profiles page

Height : 187 cm
Weight : 108 kg

He is a big boy and i hope he goes well.
