Very happy with the two points, but i was a little disappointed with the performance.

It was great to see Winterstein and Yow Yeh grab a try each on debut. I was also delighted for Folau to score, it meant a lot to him from the looks of him.

Standout forwards for mine were Thaiday and Clinton. Both worked very hard in defence and attack to set a steady platform for the backs. I think Thaiday played eighty minutes as well, superb effort.

Setu was solid.

Corey Parker was a little disappointing IMO, although he put in a nice grubber for the Michael's no try.

Karmichael Hunt was my man of the match. Had a hand in three tries. Brilliant kick for Winterstein.

Wallace was solid, put in some well placed kicks.

Lockyer was a little quiet IMO as was Folau. Although Folau let Tonga slip in for the Cowboys first try, he shut up shop after that and really improved in defence.

I was also relatively unimpressed with Aaron Gorrell. All he really seemed to do was stand a pass, hardly ever took on the line and when he did it was as if he was running in wet cement, just lumbered on up and got tackled. McCullough's cameo was much more impressive.

Dave Taylor didn't play too bad at all. Cracking effort to send Parker over the line.

Alex Glenn did well.

How on earth did Michael's drop that grubber?

Also, i realise Corey Parker had three difficult kicks, but at NRL level he should have been able to land at least one of them. Would have made a difference.

fair call ning -
but I give them more leeway, its round 1 --> for a round 1 performance, I thought they were slightly better than OK. I guess slightly lucky to get away with the two points.
Locky is too rusty right now imo --> Let Wallace run the show for a few rounds I say. Better Just letting Locky take his time with the ball and burst into play when he needs to.

It was scrappy ning but we got the points. We have plenty of improvement in us that is for sure. Great start from some of the young guys and the new boys and the forwards went great I thought.

Yeh fair enough lads, perhaps i was expecting a little too much. It was just some aspects of our play frustrated me.

I guess that is to be expected given it's the first round and all. Like i said, very happy with the two points.

I am over the moon with the result.

I thought we would be thrashed with our inexperienced forward pack.

How anyone can be disappointed with this performance is totally beyond me.

A) It's the first game of the year.
B) We won against quality opposition.
C) We have a VERY inexperienced backline and forward pack.
D) We have a shit load of new players. Combinations need time.
E) We have an entirely new coach! It's a new Era!

Honestly, a bit scrappy but a job well done.

Karmichael Hunt was our best IMO. Set up 3 of our tries, always safe from the back. I am loving the Hunt - Lockyer - Wallace combination. So many options, so many variations of different plays - IMO our attack was very UNPREDICTABLE.

I've got to give raps to our defence too. We stopped a lot of the Cowboys second phase play and I honestly reckon it has a lot to do with our mobility up front.

I'm stoked with the 2 points.

Exactly right, Rocky, its first round FFS not the finals, fans have unrealistic expectations at times when it comes to how their team performs especially early on, for instance we have a lot of young players in the side and a lot of experience sidelined, not to mention new players who are doing their best to fit in and under a new coach. Frankly I'm over the moon just to get the 2 points against such quality opposition who have shown in recent years since move back to suncorp to always give us trouble at home.

It was just some of the basic stuff that bothered me. For instance:

Moving up as a line in defence and pressuring the opposition, at times we were inviting them to run the 10m.

Henjak's use of the bench was a little odd IMO, but after all it is his first game so i better cut him some slack. [icon_lol1.

Etc.

It will all smooth out in the long run though so just ignore me. icon_thumbs_u

Good or bad unpredictable Rock??? I thought our attack was ordinary tonight but like you am stoked to get the 2 points. I thought we went the short side far too often and most times you could clearly see there was nothing on (the bad unpredictable)

When we played direct attack with options inside andout we looked far better (the good unpredictable)

Gorrell looks to offer slow delivery from dummy half, I really hope this improves as I don't think McCullough is a starting #9 yet but he provided real spark off the bench.

It was weird when they showed the coaches box & it showed Henjak swearing at one of our mistakes.

I just hope Kenny is OK. He didn't come back after like 17 minutes IIRC.

The best run of the night came from the steaker who ran 110mters before he was tackled on the Cows try line in front of the away supporters bay.

For me it was the type of game where the whole of the team was less than sum of it's parts (and I don't mean that in a bad way). I thought there were quite a few strong individual performances .

Taylor's attack was a feature, as was the impressive 80minute effort of Thaiday. Hunt was brilliant in attack and I thought Gorrell was strong at hooker. Parker was very solid and made some important contributions (that try saving tackle on Bowen 95m out from his line and being there to back up for Taylor's offload). Both wingers had nice debuts and I don't remember either of them making a mistake in the whole game.

Anyway, generally speaking if you saw the scoreline you wouldn't have thought that so many of our players played as well as they did tonight, and in future, if they all played just as well, I'd imagine we'd win a lot more comfortably. IMO this is a positive sign going forwards and why I feel that tonight the whole of our team was less than the sum of it's parts.

That was an orsm line break!!! I can't believe he didn't get caught til he reached the other corner!

Yeah very early days but promising signs. I would rather Gorrell just pass for the majority of the game early in the season until he builds up some sort of combination with Locky, Wallace and K. Not giving up on him after 1 game though, think he will be an asset to us. He is a gun goal kicker as well - missed kicks could have been more costly tonight, wonder how many chances Corey will get?

Scratchy start from both teams but we were deserved winners (4 tries to 3, Thursto's kicking kept them in the game). Both wingers were solid, I think Winterstein seemed more zippy though but Yow Yeh is pretty tall. They've got another couple of rounds to press their case for a wing spot when Hodges returns. Great to see Michaels play well too! Didn't seem rusty asides from the missed grounding - suprising given the length of his lay off.

We should sign the streaker, beating all those security goons and running the length of the field was an acheivement!

Watching the game from the nosebleed sections at Suncorp, I thought we played very well considering the inexperience and new combinations. Going to watch the replay now on Fox but here's a few things that I saw.

I agree with what people have said about Gorrell. He needs to run more from dummy half, at times we were going too sideways.

Clinton was solid. I still have faith in him.

Thaiday was a machine.

I can see Glenn being a great ballplaying lock in the future.

Ben Te'o was nonexistant.

Also, what happened to Kenny? Injury? Because he left the field never to return.

Get devere in just for the goal kicking ffs.

Well Ning you obviously (i) watched a different game to me, and (ii) have too high a standards.

Probably best to sum up each player I reckon so here goes, though do forgive me as some of the newbies I was getting mixed up a little with numbers and they all look a bloody like as well.

Hunt - excellent at the back and looks to back in form, great grubber and vision. Good to see he seems to have got the kamikaze out of his game also.
Winter and Yowie - great debuts considering, both look like they have "footy" heads and are wingers that put the head down and attack the corner.....Justin who ???
Michaels - solid return all things considered, ball was knocked out by the cow player, will improve, great defender
Falou - marked out of the game by cows, great finish for try, needs to learn to trust others in defence and this will come, promising signs for sure and in for big year IMHO
Locky - freak, still rusty but was still all class, noticed signs that he and Wally working well together already, suggest the Alfie influence at play
Wally - solid, in and out of game, kicking game needs a little work but it's round 1
Parker - tackles his heart out, 80 minute player, work during the week on goal kicking, good grubber for Micheals no try
Teo - good signs but a little quite for mine
Thaiday - started were left off last season, superb game, played all of 75 minutes and was all class
Kenny - started wonderfully till taken off, not sure what happened
Gorrell - I was actully pretty impressed, he is there to merely distribute quality ball from dummy half and he did that, great in defence also
Clinto - well the real Joel Clinton has finally showed up in Brisbane, lets keep it up Joel, big hits, plenty of metres

Glen - orange boots bro, very impressive and will be a great utility
Setu - some good defence and hitups, will watch closer next round though
DT - he is back, fatherhood obviously suits him, hit it up hard, plenty of heavy tackles in defence, handling was heaps better, glad to see the 2007 DT stabd up
Macca - looks the goods, has that element of surprise that is needed when he comes on, though the dummy half service for mine was not as slick as Gorrell

All in all for round one great effort, some great signs that we are going to play and expansive attacking style with plenty of 2nd, 3rd and 4th phase play, defence needs some work particularly on the tryline but that will come with plaqying together and trusting the man beside you.

Oh and Alfie is the new Geoff Toovey (best 14th man in the game), more field time than most of the Bronco players.
