Broncos Vs Cowboys - Team list, pre & post game discussion

Anyone else been perplexed as to how this game has been billed as a local derby for over a decade? Cronulla is closer to us!

Lol yeah I know... its just the whole little sister of Brisbane thing... and it would be weird having a local derby from 2 teams in different states!

Its probably been billed as the local derby for the last decade because they were the only 2 QLD teams. Now the Titans match feels more like the local derby match to me

Half of the tits are blues. Therefore...not a local derby IMO.

Carroll out...

Carroll out of Cowboys clash

July 17, 2008 THE Brisbane Broncos have lost hard-hitting lock Toni Carroll for Friday night's NRL clash with the injury-hit North Queensland in Townsville.

Carroll failed a fitness test on his ankle on Thursday morning and was ruled out of the Queensland derby clash.

Joel Moon will start in the centres with Corey Parker shifting to lock and Ashton Sims coming off the bench into the back row.

Broncos’ assistant coach Ivan Henjak says the Broncos are prepared for a tough clash despite the Cowboys losing captain and halfback Johnathan Thurston to a knee injury.

so moon goes into the centres for stagg who must be going onto the bench to replace sims who goes into the backrow for parker who goes to lock for carroll?? why not just move stagg into the backrow unless his ankle is still dodgy? and then were a forward short with robinson named 18th man i would have thought he would start centre with moon on bench or backrow?..... seems like a hell of alot of changes for one player out injuried?...... im glad it makes sense in bennetts head.....

Last time I checked, though, SOO and the NRL are two different competitions.

90% of the Rabbitohs are Kiwis, does that make them local rivals with the Warriors and not the Roosters?

Bah, Gold Coast is 90km down the road, Townsville is 1,450km up the road. I know which one feels a little more local to me icon_thumbs_u

talked to the boys a couple of hrs ago and they seem pumped up. Looking forward to it.

This is a must-win game, both for points and confidence.

That would also mean our games against Melbourne would be local derby. Hmmmmm, not working eusa_think

My perception of a local derby is obviously different to yours mick. Geographically, sure, the Titans are our rivals, but I consider a local derby QLDers VS QLDers. For the time being I still consider the Cowboys 'The Local Derby'. Maybe down the track when the Tits have been around for a while I might change my attitude, but for the time being I get much more excited about a Broncos VS Cowboys than a Broncos VS Titans.

What about the EPL, they call man utd vs man city a local derby, yet 95% of the players are either foreigners or englishmen from other parts of the UK

Actually, the Cowboys have around 40% of their squad made up of non-Qlers. 10 Blues and 2 Kiwis if i'm not mistaken.

Matthew Barlett, Ray Cashmere, Ben Farrar, Ben Harris, Mark Henry, Luke O'Donnell, Justin Smith, Steve Southern, Dayne Weston, John Williams, Sione Faumuina, Ben Vaeau.

"David Stagg has been relegated to the bench and Joel Moon will start for him in the centres. Reece Robinson has earned a place on the interchange."

Of what use will Reece Robinson be off the bench? He runs like a girl and therefore will be of little use if we need him as a forward, he's only use would be if we have an injury in the backs but then we've already got Stag (Mr Impact) on the bench who can cover that and play in the forwards too. I just don't understand wayne's/Ivan's thinking....... Give young McCullough some more time in NRL

Actually, it does work, which is why Broncos v Storm games are amongst the most intense matches of the year!!

make no mistake people, for Queenslanderness it goes;

1. Broncos (OQ's)
2. Storm
3. Cow's

4. Tits
