Broncos Vs. Roosters - Match Thread

Hey rock Lockyer threw some serious hospital passes last night.
Thats not Lockys fault, he has a lot of guys out there not knowing where the balls going and a lot of the time getting in the way... They seem to have the mentality of if we run our play we will score, but when the defense reads it they dont have a plan b and do it anyway which leads to drop ball... No one supports the ball either which clearly shows a poor attitude... They are in a big hole atm...

I have to say I have been wrapped with the way Antonio has played so far this season. He looks bigger and stronger and runs the ball back very hard. I'd like to seem him get a run in the centres before Hodges gets back if the chance arises.

Agree with you 100%. He runs hard and puts his body on the line.

I cannot believe the amount of people on here bagging locky! He can't do it all himself. The plays that he is trying to create aren't working coz of the people he has playing along side him! If we had hodgo izzy, kemp there last night his plays would of worked and we would have scored a few more points.

People that are blaming locky for the current form of the team haven't got a clue. He can't do it by himself ALL THE TIME!!!

Lockyer isn't trying to create anything, looked like a average footy player out there last night just shifting the short ball to the bloke next to him. It comes down to him, he calls the plays and tells the guys where he is heading but last night he looked happy enough to just shovel it along. Every kick was the same up and under that went to deep for us to really contest and I don't think he cut a player out with a pass once last night. He obviously has alot on his mind because he looks like he has the weight of the world on him and I also assume the simple style he tried and failed to employ last night was also down to him not having confidence in the guys around him to make the plays. Simple fact is like it or not, Lockyer is not anywhere near the player he was even a couple of years ago let alone earlier in his career particularly in attack where he has become just another 5/8th much of the time.

last time i checked rugby league was a team sport... and thats where our problem is, they are not playing as a team atm...

That was one of the dreariest games I've seen in years. Have to agree with Phil Gould: the standard between our game last night and the Melbourne/St George game was startling.

I thought the effort was definitely there but when you've got a disjointed attack it isn't enough to get you over the try line. Lockyer tried hard but I actually thought for the first time in a long time he'd run out of ideas and became predictable. After the first 15 minutes the Roosters knew to look out for the inside ball and from then on they had us covered. We need to learn to hold the football. Uncompleted sets are just killing us at the moment.

There are some funny comments in this thread. You fans need to keep the faith. You can't replace the likes of Hodges, Folau, Kemp and even Yow Yeh and expect the substitutes to produce the same kind of play. The next 4-6 weeks are going to be tough. Best to keep supporting and not letting these boards degenerate into calls for a new coach, new CEO and that kind of junk.

Oh and lol at the Easts fans lauding their team. Apart from Carney they were rubbish, absolute rubbish.

Lockys kicking game last night was no different to what he has done in the past. The only difference was no Kemp/Izzy darting down the side line to make something.

Roosters scored their final try, it was 24-6, about nine minutes left. Sure, there's not much chance we were going to win at that stage, but we could have at least attempted a short kick off to regain the ball.

Also, why don't we ever try out the old chip and chase? Sometimes Wallace will put through a little grubber for himself, but other than that, we never do it.

Why not? Maybe it's low percentage, but when you're losing by a few tries, it's worth a go.

It'd be interesting to see just how fully fit some of our players are. There seems to be quite a few with either their legs or arms heavily strapped.

theres still time for us to turn this shit around. we started 06 very poorly as well with only ben hannant, from memory, putting in, and then it clicked and we were good. god i hope this happens again, they just need to fucking work.

We clicked by Round 3 in 2006.

This is more like 2007, where the team is experimenting and these experiments aren't paying off because the team is playing so poorly.

Although to be fair to the 2010 squad, at least they have the luxury to blame their poor form on injuries. The 2007 side was just flat out poor to begin with. That was until the Bulldogs game where a number of Origin players backed up and starred in what would be their turning point.

Exactly my point. Lockyer's passes all night and his direction, was actually quite good. I was watching from the side line and you could see Lockyer pointing and yelling for the next play...then the next play will come, someone will over-run the pass or whatever and then you see Lockyer mouthing off. It was continuous all night.[/quote:2qkp4nr4]

Er.. seriously, it is called running the ball or dummying and going for the next play... more than a few short balls last night WERE hospital = FACT!!! There was a better option and he did NOT have to throw them.
He NEVER takes on the line... like I said... age has affected him more than I think we all like to admit. We all saw what he can do in 06.

I'm just saying - he should be looking at a different approach IMO.

I am not saying we can't come back and start playing better but Our Squad compared to recent years is alot weaker so it will make it much tougher. I know we will eventually come back and win some when we get the cattle back. Injuries are not an excuse for poor attitude and poor game plans.

what ?? The only thing wrong with the team in 2007 was poor mental application, take a look at the names the Broncos had playing that season. The only thing wrong with them, at least in the early part of that season, was poor mental application, as you see with just about every defending premier over the past decade, apart form Melbourne.

The squad of 2010 is a shell, a monkey skeleton, of what the club has had in previous years.

he's rarely produced his best since that knee injury in 07 and he's far from the player he was, but the fact he's playing behind the worst forward pack in the NRL certainly doesn't help

We only won one out of the first nine or ten in 1999 and we still came back to get into the top 8. Granted we had a much stronger squad, but no way are we dead in the water yet.

They said on the footy show this morning that the reason the Gillett was out on the wing towards the end of the game (with winterstein defending in the middle) was because we were running out of interchanges and it was the only way he could see out the 80mins with his injury.
