Broncos Vs. Roosters - Match Thread

Here's a tip to everyone for the rest of the season...

If you want to get through the rest of the year - may I recommend a half bottle of Jack Daniels - it helps with watching the game - not so much with typing posts afterwards!

you wanna kill yourself, play the broncos drinking game, whenever they miss a tackle take a shot...

My 2 cents, Its mind boggling that Sims has been missing, what with the lack of experience all over.

The attack in the set pieces is too complex and busy without (as has been mentioned) DEPTH and space and timing. If you look at the Dragons try today that set piece would help the young guys, with a few deep passes then some fast passing at the line.

The way the Broncs are doing it, they are throwing short passes and changes in lines in heavy traffic, and the young crew dont have either the skills, experience or belief to get away with it, not thats it all their fault. But there seems to be some idea that they can run the plays like K used to, perhaps forgetting a lot of those old plays were because of skills like Karmichael had. Look at what slater and cronk can do, not anyone can do that..

I dont know the way forward, but Ivan needs to choose some players and positions and let them gel.

The dragons game is going to be interesting.............home brew time!

It would cost you too much in grog hahaha

i thought teo put in a good effort tonight defended well and seemed to be backing up most of the time

McCullough was the only player we had in any position that looked consistently threatening, Lockyer and Wallace were absolute passengers tonight. Our pack was actually pretty good and did give us some reasonable field position but our 6 and 7 put up deep kicks that gave no one a chance of a contest time after time and threw short balls to forwards already lined up to be smashed. There were some positives like the fact we did have a go for the full 80 but we never really looked like scoring too many points tonight.

What the **** was our team???? Winerstien 2nd row? Gillet wing?? Beale and Hunt on the bench?? Why Why Why do we have two fucking small backs on the bench????? Langi Setu should get Roosters players player!!! By the looks of that game he is already playing for the roosters!!!!! Sims and Thaiday were the only two fowards who made it across the advantage line!!! Where the hell has Kenny's form gone???? Our outside backs were absolutely shit!!!!! I like Ivan and in no way am i blaming him but he has some questions to answer!!!!!

Very little effort again from a certain few. It seems we are lumped with a team full of guys who prefer the footballer lifestyle to getting in and working hard. I was impressed with Thaiday, Gillett, Glenn, McGuire & Winterstein. They really seemed to have a go, thats all I can ask for. Lockyer & Wallace seemed to put in as well but just looked really bad with the football in hand.

When are we gonna see the end of these idiots out partying all the time at the normanby or the Met or whatever and start taking this shit seriously, start putting in the effort during the week and during the games, coz right now i'm not seeing it. Quit the drinking and start putting in. If I put that much effort into my job, I'd get fired.

Funny how Scott Anderson was all smiles after the game. Glad you are having a good time buddy.

From what I have seen this season, I'm really considering just watching the game from my hotel on friday. Why should I go to the effort of having a 4 hr train trip if they aren't going to make the effort to at least try.

Also, i found out we don't have a defensive coach. why in the ****?

i never thought id say this, but thaiday is in great form atm, hes the only one doing anything along with gillet

Was over at a friend's house, so I didn't watch the game too intently..

But I think we really miss Hunt's intensity from the back. It's early days but Norman is too timid when he runs the ball and he doesn't seem to be that vocal. Plus his work on the second man play (which we rely on so much, probably too much) isn't quite up to scratch.

And I wasn't that interested in the game tonight because I knew we were going to get beaten. In the past, even when the odds were against us, I generally had faith in the players in that they'd put in a good effort. I don't have all that much faith in this team at the moment.

Lastly we need to work on our defence. It was shite last year and it's no better this year.

I guess this isn't really constructive but I just want to say for the anti-Khunt people --> I know he is a frustrating player at times (esp in 09) but I knew this would happen. IMO he was a really big part of the Broncs post S.Kelly era and was definitely an important factor to our team. Anyway - I just think Khunt factor will be huge this year - more than we would like to admit or like it to be.

As for Locky, I know he's having a real dig but age has hindered him as a player more than he himself would like to admit IMO. He's just not even half the player he could be --> a lot of his decision making and passes he throws confuses me... he just throws the ball to the player running one out with him or half hospital balls --> he just looks like he's throwing them for the sake of it. Bar a few games it was pretty much what he did in 2009 but he had Hodgo and Folau to work with. I may be being harsh but I don't think age affected Langer, Fittler and Joey as much... they weren't as good but still managed to produce a certain standard. I know Locky had that horror knee in 08 but I just think he's had a good run and maybe look at a different approach to his game. As my friend well stated: "Locky's A game was his swiftness, knife-slicing ball running and instinctive play... unfortunately his body just cannot produce that."
In my head I've got an idea of what I think Locky can bring for us for the next two years but I just dont think what IH/Broncs/Locky is trying now is working at all.

I hope this is Lockyer's last year. His defense is maybe even worse than ever before and his attacking brilliance is coming to the fore less often. I don't want our legend and immortal becoming a 'good' player before he retires, he needs to retire while he is still a great player and I think if he goes beyond this year this will be the case.

I think we need to go back to absolute basics. I hate saying it but if Bennet was still here he would have looked at our available roster and realised that we dont have the skills/confidence as a young group atm and wouldve just drilled into them about keeping our line intact...basic one out running...and not overplaying our hand. Get the basics right and gain confidence from that before expanding. Seriously the easiest way to score against us right now is to move the ball from one side of the field to the other and back and then pick up an inside runner going straight. Abysmal sliding defence. Some are sliding too far and others arent coming across at all...its like the ball has gone past them and their job is done. The roosters didnt have the ability to take advantage of it too much but wait til next friday. HOLY SHIT!!!!! The Dragons will carve us up with inside balls all night if we dont fix it.
Positives for me was Gillett...playing awesome, Sims...great impact off the bench in the 2nd half and of course Thaiday who never gave up...the look on his face when he dropped the ball at the end was devestation, Sammy has so much passion for his jersey.

He ain't dead yet mate... Playing behind a beaten pack every week and with no centres who can hit holes. He is always going to struggle. If this is his last year I'd hate to see what 2011 holds now that T. Smith is gone.. Makes me sad

I cannot believe the amount of people on here bagging locky! He can't do it all himself. The plays that he is trying to create aren't working coz of the people he has playing along side him! If we had hodgo izzy, kemp there last night his plays would of worked and we would have scored a few more points.

People that are blaming locky for the current form of the team haven't got a clue. He can't do it by himself ALL THE TIME!!!

D) Henjak. Another rookie error. 2 backs on the bench? Why? And why did we need to blood Rivett? I don't get it. Henjak has gone down the path of blooding TOO many rookies IMO. Rivett didn't need to play. Beale would have been sufficient on the wing, and if he really wanted, then have Hunt on the bench (No idea why we need Hunt on the bench either...) Then the whole thing was mixed up on the field with players in odd positions.

Now onto the positives: We were not horrible. Much better than last week. Our problem this week was not making the most of our opportunities. I think there was 5 dropped balls/Forward passes inside the opposing 20 early in the tackle count. Can't win a game like that.

Ashton Sims - Massive game from him and was good to see the big boy get some form.

I can see what Henjak was planning on doing with Beale on the bench, bringing him into the centers and moving teo or Glenn into the back row... Hunt was cover for McCullough, but I agree he could have brought Beale on at 9 to give Macca a rest and then move him back to the centers and bring Glenn or Teo' into the backrow... He gives me the impression he wants Beale in the side but doesnt trust him in the backline, which if is the case he probably shouldnt be playing at all...
There was not a lot of change from the last 3 1/2 games, the only positive from last week to this week was they didnt give up...
