I'm not sure if we are still sticking to the separate post match threads but I think it deserves its own thread.

First of all great season and all that jazz but just some thoughts of the game off the top of my head:

1) I can't believe we went for the locky to 7 and rotating give-eigth game plan... I'm not saying we would have won with B Hunt but seriously?... Personally, I just don't get it... I don't see the logic in it AT ALL. I know there is going to be divided opinion on this but... I don't understand the use of Locky tonight at all... wasted in attack imo.

actually that is my main rant... too tired... will post after some people later...

storm were on fire though.. they came to play

Saved the worst for last. Critical errors at bad times. The storm killed us. Hate to be a NSW origin supporter but that Dallas Johnson try was the worst decision of the season

I was pretty confident after last weeks game but I think we peaked 2 weeks to early. The Storm were on fire there wrestling tactics were awesome. Makes me sick TBH. Why is it that our boys won't show aggression towards Slater, belt the living crap out of him ffs.

That's pretty harsh mate - we have unearthed some great kids this year in Glenn, Yow Yeh, Winterstein and McCullough. We were also starting to see some really good things from Setu, T'eo and Sims at the back end of the year. It's a real shame to go out after a great 7 weeks but plenty of things to look forward to IMO.

I stick by my theory that the Broncos (and the Maroons) win games where they kick off to start the match. They seem to stamp their authority in defense when they do that. When we receive the ball we seem to struggle from the start.

I could be talking total shit as I doubt there are stats to back me up, but it's a trend that I've noticed over the past few years.

The morning after. Well, I can't help but agree with the sentiments expressed in the first post. To my way of thinking we would need as little disruption as possible going into the hardest game of the year. Ivan Henjak, in my humble opinion, made a rookie mistake in his decision to rearrange the team and subsequently we were a disorganized rabble.

like most I believed we were gone at the point of learning of the extent of Wallaces' injury but hoped we could at least be competitive. We were not. We had nothing to offer. I watched the game at 2x speed this morning and you just can't help notice how pedestrian our approach was. It was 99% up the middle and oh so easy to predict and defend against.

Unless Ben Hunt himself declared he could not do the job then not having a specialist was the wrong decision.I am bitterly disappointed but I am not in the least surprised at the miserable offering last night. With that 'plan'(muffled laughter) we never had a chance...not even able to beat the Sharks or Roosters with it I'd say.

If it was Henjaks decision (moot point with Cullen there) then it was wrong. Like most in the poll, I voted to have Hunt at half. We must all be stupid. Rookie coach rookie call.

Well what can I say. There was nothing wrong with the effort, as evidenced by Izzy's try on the siren. I think we really missed Wallace out there. Definitely not saying we would have won with him out there, but his kicking game and the pressure he takes off Lockyer would have kept us in the game longer. On one occasion a Lockyer bomb is taken on the full in-goal, Melbourne get a penalty coming out of their end and all of a sudden they're on the attack. If Wallace is in first receiver and Lockyer is in T'eo's position when he bombed that try, Hodges goes over unopposed. Certainly not enough to turn around a 30-point deficit, but enough to have us some sort of chance at half time.

I think if we could have gotten into an arm wrestle early and scored first we could have made a game of it but Melbourne were too good. We may have missed 60 odd tackles, but they made us miss those tackles from just tiring us out. I was disappointed with a couple of Hodges's decisions to rush in. Well, not so much the decisions themselves because if he made the tackle it's a good defensive play, but the fact that he didn't make the tackle left Lockyer and poor Yow Yeh posted. Oh well, to next year now. It was a good effort for the boys to get as far as they did after the Raiders game and I'm proud of them. I like the way Parra are playing at the moment but it'd feel a bit dirty going for them, so go the Storm for the GF!

Good lesson for those young boys. They will be better for the experience and be better for it next year. We were simply outplayed last night. I'm ok with it because I, for the first time in my life, thought we had no chance of making the finals after that loss to Canberra - nor did I think we deserved to. We had a fantastic final 8 weeks in a time where I thought would just be cringing. Proud of the boys for what they did achieve.

Can't wait for 2010.

I think the Broncos have a great future, as always.
I think some of you guys are a bit over critical. Sure, even I thought they could have performed a bit better but you have to give a lot of credit to their opposition. Storm are a well oiled machine with very few weaknesses and they all played very well last night.
Broncos have some champion players in amongst some very talented young guns.
The problem last night, and at other times, is that the young guns have occasional brain farts at the worst of times. At that moment where safety is the best course, they try to do something that has a high risk factor or they completely stuff it up because of the pressure and nerves. They'll get a lot better with a little time.
It happens to all teams when there trying to introduce the next generation of stars. The Titans had the same problems with Mead and Gordon this season. Moments of absolute brilliance mixed with a sprinkling of shear disbelief and anguish. And it's usually in defence.
Don't fret, the Broncos had a great season and are looking good for next year.

I am pretty gutted that we lost last night. I really thought that we could've won, going by our efforts in the past 7 games. However, Melbourne outplayed us and we made a lot of errors. By halftime, we already made 20-odd errors, compared to Storm's 4. [eusa_doh The one thing I hate the most is losing against Melbourne because they are absolute grubs and Bellamy is a knob.

I am proud of how the boys have played in the past 7 games after dealing with terrible losses and the bad media that went on. We have proved that even though we have lost some good players and have replaced them with rookies, it is still possible to make it all the way to the Preliminary Finals. So, well done, boys! I can't wait til next year!

They held down, we didn't, end of game. They have made the wrestle an art form, always holding the ball or the arm with the ball. Even when they release they suddenly become clumsy getting tangled with a hand in around the ball or are bumping the arm with the ball , I hate this part of the game but that is the way it is and they do it better than most.

Storm iditified our weaker defenders and went at McCullough a lot who can't dominate (ugh).
The most disappointing thing for me was the lack of grit , maybe a symptom of our youth combined with the lack of a half and the loss of momentum so early in the game.

We lost the game when Ben Hunt wasn't selected. We were in an even worse position when Lockyer was moved to halfback and Carroll to 5/8. Also, I reckon we should have started with Clinton. Still, a great finish to the season all the same. After that loss to Canberra, to finish one week from the GF is a great result. The worst part about the result was Bellamy's general smugness. It's going to be hard to choose a team to go for next week.

I was very surprised we lost tbh, but regardless, we did so well to make it this far I cant complain that we lost. After the 56 - 0 against canberra, u wouldve expected them to finish the season weakly, but instead the banded together and gave the comp a shake. Cant really ask for more than that. IH shouldve probably played someone else at half, but obviously he didnt wanna upset the makeup of the team too much. IMO It was a bad decision coz u could tell Locky was out of ideas yet he had to do everything himself. Losing Hunt will be good for the broncos, hes shit as evident by his attempt to defuse that kick last night, but we will miss Taylor, he has been the most creative player for us over the last few weeks (from wat ive seen while overseas).

As for the storm, and moreso the ppl on here that just cant accept that Slater is one of the best players in the game, he tore us apart last night, and not only did he score tries he saved 2. I dare say not many players in the game couldve stopped big TC from scoring, but slater did. Suck it up and admit it

You're right QLDer - No one in their right mind can deny that Slater carved us up and ate us for breakfast. He was outstanding last night. Players like this, when they are on fire - are truly unstoppable.

Key phrase: when they are on fire. Slater is a GREAT player, no dout. But when he plays like sh*t, he's really sh*t.

watching last nite, i kinda agree. I was thinking to myself before kickoff, "cant wait to see how hard sims and kenny hit the first runner from the kick off" and then we ended up getting the ball first and the first time they got it, slater was threatening a break.
