Broncos Vs. Warriors - Match Thread

lockyer and wallace are kicking like shit. Our defence wasn't the issue, it was our attack in that second half. Kicked it dead twice - two tries to them down the other end was the result. Winterstein knocks on - try against us the result. Our attack is shit house at the moment and creating too much pressure on our defence. Once we gave them enough cheap possession, on a hot day in the second half with two fit players on the bench, they took the momentum and rolled over us.

The main issue with our defence (allowing too many offloads) has been there for the past 10 years, so it's nothing new.

I think its more just being used to players like Kemp being able to run onto the ball before it goes dead. we lost it 100% when Kemp/Izzy went of.

Strange that our forward's are pretty weak on paper and get a fair bit of criticism, but for the last 2 weeks I think they have been better than our backs.

I would like to seem him either put some more speed when hitting the line, or at least making something of the play, instead of just giving up.

He runs like a ballet dancer to the line.

My major gripe is not locking the ball up, basic skills that we a lacking.

I thought Kenny was good.

Certainly were some players who put in - Kenny was one, so was Sammy, Macca and Te'o - the positive to take from a game like this is the amount of experience a player like Macca will get out of it, and he really stood up and looked like he would have learned from it

Does anyone know if we (broncs) did the pre season boot camp this year - looks like the boys could use some bonding time - though I'm not just basing that on this game and the injuries which obviously disrupted the team dynamic

As a couple of people have posted, we have traditionally had problems shutting the ball down, and against a side like the Warriors, that can spell a flogging, particularly if they get their confidence up as happened in the second half. We really need to work on our one on one tackling and shutting the ball down, but that is not a new problem, it has been there for at least five years.

The attack is not flowing well, and Sammy seems to keep getting in the road down that right side and shutting the attack down. Couple of poor efforts by him in defence in the second half, but he was not alone. On the positive side, McCullough is developing nicely, Winterstein played well and ran the ball back hard (something I wish Norman would do more of, I agree with you Nashy, he buggers around too much back there), Gillett could be anything in time, and once again Norman looked cool under pressure both under the high ball and in last line defence.

Next week could be ugly with our injuries and unless we have a new resolve in defence I can see the Roosters carving us up. Could be a long season if we don't start getting some luck with injuries.

That match might make Locky's call for him on whether he retires from rep footie.

It is hard being tough on the boys - footy is not played on paper but today showed a couple of injuries and its all over. I heard the call so it is a bit hard to judge but once I heard Folau and Kemp were on the sidelines (that is + Hodgo/Yow Yeh) I thought: "gee whiz, our backline is a bit thin there".

Anyway - we need a gun experience forward to really change things up a bit with second phase play IMO. We could use a bit of creativity there.

IMO that's just a game to forget. As soon as we had to use 2 interchanges for the Folau and Kemp injuries, we were pretty much gone. Then not long after, Gillett, Wallace and Anderson were injured but had to play on (Gillett eventually coming off). On a warm-ish afternoon in Brisbane and with the Warriors so high on confidence, we were never a hope. Sure, would've been nice to stop a few of those tries near the end, and there were definately some performances from certain players that were well below par, but the troops out there were just too buggered. Simple as that IMO.

Hope the injured players recover in time for next week (although I doubt Izzy will).

Agreed but I'm one of those believers of a good start being crucial. Sure - with the top 8 system all you need is momentum at the end but with our current side I think 6/10 wins is something we could really build on - esp with the upcoming rep matches.
If we put too much pressure and we have to chase wins --> our current roster will find that tough to overcome IMO.

Mate I couldn't agree more with that. Wins at the start are crucial indeed. But today it was pretty much impossible.

Can't play the heat into this. Today was a brilliant day in Brisbane. Not hot, not cool.

A loss is all well and good but to lose by 30 points in front of your home crowd against a not so good team is rubbish. If the boys actually applied themselves in defence it would have helped our cause no end IMO.

Defence was just so weak. Most of the tries the warriors scored were long range which is a pretty bad sign IMO. Hopefully the boys fire up in defence next week.
