Broncos withdraw their two year offer to Greg Inglis

Renegade, the simple fact is that unless we paid GI's legal bill he would not sign the contract. and the only way for us to pay that bill if we wanted to was to blatantly cheat the cap. but i suppose you think we should do that if it meant us gettting GI

i think one of the worst parts about this is he lied to his mates in Lockyer, Hodges and Thaiday. telling them how he wanted to come here.

anyone saying we're better off without him has rocks in their head. even if his heart wasnt in it, and he was going to leave after 2 years, hes still Greg Inglis - on his day hes the single most destructive player in the game, bar none. after losing Folau, who was fast becoming that type of player, signing GI was the only replacement who could fill that gap.

now we're up $hit creek basically.

But you just said we can't believe what the CM tells us. Which is exactly what you're doing. Then you're getting cranky because I'm pointing out the flaw in your argument against me. So again, I say make up your mind.

We have no idea if he sat with Bruno and Gee, and they told him that they would do all of these things that he wanted them to do. Or to make the transition to Brisbane a lot easier they would do this. You have no idea. I have no idea. The CM has no idea.

So to say Brisbane didn't do anything more than offer, withdraw, offer and withdraw, is silly. Because again. We have no idea.
What? Are you making the assumption that I only read the CM for news? Cause I don't think I said that... anywhere... ever... so I don't see how I'm contradicting myself?

Hell, let's even scrap the CM idea, can you point to any publication where Brisbane seemed to go out of their way to show their desire to get Inglis, like South Sydney has evidently done.

So you mean, because any of the new agencies in the country didn't have exclusive access to confidential talks between Inglis, his manage, and the Broncos. You are saying we didn't go out of our way?

We have no idea what they did to secure that signature. You can argue your point until your fingers bleed. But it's still not going to change the fact that you have no idea what was offered behind closed doors.

I don't think we are up shit creek, yet.

Who wants to bet against me. I believe we will finish higher than Souths next year!

I don't believe any of us are in a position to talk about what the Broncos did and didn't offer him here in Brisbane.
So let's just close the forum and believe everything the CM tells us?

Really, I know you're not saying that but what a stupid comment. Yeah, let's kill the idea of a forum cause we're not 100% on every detail?

But we should assume the Broncos didn't do anything to keep him right? Yet we don't know. Make up your mind.

Oh come on, LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE. Really. It's not hard, it's not encrypted, and it's not in another language.

Brisbane - um yeah here's an offer. take it or leave it(1st negotiation). oh you might be able to stay at the storm, that's ok, our original offer is still there(2nd negotiation). oh um, maybe we might be able to put on a bit more, but that's really it(3rd negotation). we must have our man... good, he can come train with the others when he's better, now let's focus our attention elsewhere

Souths - OMFG WHAT DO YOU WANT US TO DO, WE'LL DO ANYTHING.

One is non-chalant, the other is busting a gut and showing, what I believe is ambition. They're actively using their connections, legit or not to get Inglis sign for them. you know, Inglis one of the worlds best players? Or at least he was until he decided not to sign for brisbane anymore?
monaghan's lab isn't even that easy.

You negotiate for a reason, 1. theres a salary cap and 2. there another 24 players within that cap. Inglis had expressed a desire to live in Brisbane on compassionate grounds leaving the Broncos with the upper hand and the circumstances around Melbourne's need to release him was even more leverage for the club since they had to cover any short fall anyway. Souths were never permitted to talk to him and the broncos had no reason to believe Inglis' intentions were anything but authentic.

Every club in the NRL needs a strike centre like Inglis....but, it's not the end of the world.
The Broncos, our club, will still be a force come season 2011.

Personally, I want players at my club who WANT to be there and are PROUD to be a Bronco.
Inglis never really seemed like he cared or wanted to be at our proud club, so, go to Souths, I say.
A big loss - yes.
But, one player is NOT and CANNOT ever, be bigger than our club.
Remember the legacy Wayne Bennett built around the place.

Listen, what I am suggesting is that there are many ways you can make someone feel like they are a big part of your plans. You can do that by massaging their ego either in private or public channels. You can express how much you want them in your colours, you can have sponsors state how excited they are to have this person on board next year, etc etc.

I'm not claiming to have been a fly on the wall in the discussions. What I am claiming however, is that from the media I have seen printed, Brisbane, at every step of the way, have been very apathetic to their capture of Greg Inglis. This is how I see it.

And from this, I have formed the opinion, when compared to what the Titans and Souths have done. Yeah, the Titans weren't successful but at least they left no stone unturned, even from a public perspective. You can't tell me Brisbane have done the same, all you can suggest is that we've done our best because we don't know any better.

Edit: This whole one player bigger than the club business is a bit daft, we're not handing him the keys and deed to Red Hill...

btw if I am being a tool I would prefer to be told, i'm not trying to be a **** or to be argumentative, I am just very disgruntled at what I perceive to be a combination of poor management and lack of ambition on our behalf. And i'll still renew my season ticket, even if the management will waste my money...

You're not being a tool. You're being passionate, so is Bailey, this whole situation is gunna bring out different points of blame for everyone. End story is we are all pissed in one way or another.

GI is a tub of lard who only get's interested in the big games or when someone dares criticise him. No way in the world is that guy worth 500k. 1s, 6s, 7s and 9s are the only players worth that kind of dosh. I feel a bit sorry for him if Nasser has got in his ear, that guys speciality is taking wayward youth even further off the beaten track.

I just hope he gets fatter and lazier so whoever finally buys him gets bitten on the arse too.

Pretty anxious to see if Hodges plays alright this year now [icon_pray.

As Tee said. I'm not at all saying you're being anything. I'm not actually saying I don't agree, but I'm reserving judgement based on the fact that we don't know.

I understand what you're saying, but like you said earlier. Should we shut the board down? No. Discussion, arguments, disagreements. While we're all being civil, I see no issue with it.

Meh I'm well and truly over it, I really could not care less that he is not coming anymore, actually I'm ecstatic that he isn't coming! 600k what a waste for someone who as good as he is, is clearly uninterested in playing for us.

I reckon Hodges will have a better season than Inglis next year anyway icon_smile

*shakes head* Oo, hear the rocks.

Fact is, in any employment, and ESPECIALLY sporting teams, if you have someone who doesn't want to be there, doesn't want to play, then they do DAMAGE to the team.

Inglis would've been like that if we'd forced him to play.

He DID NOT WANT TO PLAY HERE. So we said "fine". Fair enough IMO.

I just hope he has a better season than say... the last 4 he's had for us. Hopefully he can stay on the field for all of the games too.

I don't believe anyone who says they're ecstatic he's not coming.

It was GI FFS. I'm sure most fans thought this when he signed: "he might not be stoked to be leaving the storm now, but once he plays for us, he'll realise how awesome we are and then he'll love us and ZOMG we're gonna win the premiership"

I mean, it's GREG INGLIS.

Such a shame, it would have been AWESOME to see him in a Broncos jersey!

Both the Club and GI are to blame. And the Storm. and the freaking Man Mundane. and the Rabbitohs. and the NRL......

Just an opinion but i think the extended break could do him good. He was on the park a lot more in the years following his knee recon. He wouldn't have had a genuine break since then where he wasn't battling some sort of soft tissue injury.

The Inglis that thought this much of the Broncos and behaved this way? Oh no, I AM ecstatic he's not coming.

The Inglis that carved up from 2006-2009...different story. He's not that player right now.
