Bulls 2014/2015

I hope Lynn gets a crack soon as well, I think he's actually got more upside than Burns, but Burns was chosen because of his leadership qualities mixed with good form I think.

Good form, age and versatility got him the nod.

Burns has scored 7 100's for Queensland in 37 games.

Four at the 'Gabba.
Two in Adelaide
One at the MCG.

Two at opener
One at Three
Two at Four
Two at Five

Plenty with talent around, Carters is backing up his really good year last year again. Cooper scores big for SA.

Yeah I'm impressed with Carters. Handscomb and Head also look decent, especially Handscomb.

Today is the most Queenslanders/Bulls in a Test side since the 'Gabba Test in 1982. Border, Chappell, Wessels, Rackemann and Thomson.

I am so excited.. Good luck Joe Burns. May this be the first of many test matches for you.

Marsh was hurt in the nets today.

I'd like to see him up the order, he has evolved past the number 6 and I don't think he's suited to it anymore.

Shame he hasn't scored more runs, but with Marsh out for Sydney he should at least get another gig. He will need runs though, because his two dismissals have been pretty ordinary.

I tend to agree. He should be able to make runs anywhere though. A shame he got himself out twice in his first test.

He averages 58 at the SCG, because he loves cutting and playing off the back foot. Highest score is 90.

Very nervous guy, not the ideal guy to be sitting around for 3/4 of a day waiting.

What are your thoughts on young Alistair McDermott? I don't believe he is injured but hasn't played for the Bulls or Heat all season. He seems pretty suited to the shorter forms of cricket and usually bowls well in the death which is something the Heat are lacking.

He's played one Shield game this year v WA- one wicket for 80.

He isn't injured played 12 games for Wynnum for 23 wickets at 17.87 across the three comps.

Two day games- 5 games 14 wickets at 17.71.

I agree considering the amount of bowling Hopes has had to do and the injuries the guys have had it's a surprise he's only played one game.

Hopes 17 wickets at 20.7
Feldman 10 wickets at 29.30.

Then a huge fall away

Boyce 8 wickets at 35
Harris 7 wickets at 24
Floros 4 wickets at 44
Nesser 3 wickets at 33
Cutting 3 wickets at 51
Mcdermott 1 wicket at 80
Brimblecombe 1 wicket at 115
Le Loux 1 wicket at 141
George 1 wicket at 189

I'm just speculating here but it seems to me that Law is not a huge fan of McDermott. The Heat bowling attack is very bland and similiar. Cutting, Flintoff, Gannon, Stekette are all tall bang it in types. McDermott is ideal for death bowling, he has done the job before for the Heat. Law seems to be doing a decent job and I know he doesn't do all the selecting but the Heat squad is poorly balanced. The Internationals we have a pretty poor although Flintoff is good for entertainment value I don't think he will win us any games. Vettori is really hobbling around the field these days. A real shame Bandree got injured.

In BBL 3 McDermott's economy was shocking. He had an excellent BBL 2, but like Cutting couldn't get the same results last year. Unlike Cutting, McDermott doesn't offer an excellent batting package, so he has been overlooked which is fair enough IMO. Not too sure about his selection in OD or 4D cricket for QLD.

The Strikers will be without experienced duo Shaun Tait and Brad Hodge due to injury, with the latter looking likely to be out for the remainder of the tournament.

Strikers- Johan Botha (C), Jono Dean, Travis Head, Hamish Kingston, Ben Laughlin, Trent Lawford, Tim Ludeman, Kieron Pollard, Gary Putland, Kane Richardson, Alex Ross, Craig Simmons, Adam Zampa.

Why is Gannon repeatedly being left out?
