NEWS Carrigan: how low can we go?

I don't mind as a one off as in this instance it would be Glenn but for the fact he is injured.

but as a fulltime captain? No, not yet, let him earn his place in the starting side and get through a full season or two before giving him that pressure.

Who has suggested that he will be or should be fulltime captain?

I hear ya buddy. But the club isn't flushed with captaincy options. Hence the appointment of Glenn who is barely first grade standard and a kid who has played 19 games. That is just the state of affairs in Red Hill atm.

Any other suggestions? Boyd was stripped, Glenn is injured. Carrigan is the only choice as amazing as that might sound.
Hand it back to boyd! Simple, he's going to be in the team anyway

If he did that ... This place (and I suspect you also) would have blown up whinging about it

No one has mentioned a single memorable Carrigan nrl football highlight on the field. Eg tuquiri patting him on the back after he ragdoll origin opponent 15m into touch. Or maybe an important nrl try he scored or memorable try saving tackle he had no right to make.

Carrigan will be better than Arrow by the end of the season.

Him averaging 150+ meters and 35+ tackles will be memorable.

for start Carrigan is a workhorse type player, they just go about their jobs, but don't tend to be flashy players that make highlight reels ...

secondly no-one in their right mind selects leaders based on their highlight reel ... if you select your captain based of their highlight reel, there is a better than good chance that you'll end up with an extremely poor skipper

Aiden Tolman but with zero tries. Good player for sure. But Broncos Captain? Untill Carrigan does something on the field, I agree with Meyn's article.

In the Cowboys trial, 2nd half, when we were on the back foot and behind on the scoreboard. he put his hand up and made multiple hit ups coming of our try line in the same set. When nobody else wanted to ruck it up. Carrigan was there after 60 odd mins.

Leader.

Now piss off back under your bridge.

Name one nrl play/highlight that makes you think Carrigan is a great leader?

Carrigan progressed, first game against the Pride which was down here in a late change, in the wet against Carney and everything really hard and he made lots of efforts he could only get 40 minutes but by the end of the year he was playing 80 minutes.

He got smarter, by the end of the year two games that stood out- coming off the Hunters which always drains guys and he plays 80 minutes against Townsville. Blackhawks are finals bound and have a huge pack while poor Wynnum and playing for nothing. Carrigan tops the tackles count and makes the most ground that's against Townsville with three NRL guys.

He was young and in a struggling team this year and then lost Haas and he did everything right. He played bench, second row and front row for Wynnum and defended in the ruck and just got things done.

Carrigan is a leader in every team he plays, Hodges had no choice but to make him captain this year and he was sensational even his speech after the 20's Origin screamed class. He was great all week, I have never seen a more accomplished young leader.

Wasn't even captain at the start of the week but took on the role naturally and Hodges' decision was easy by half way through.

Even in games that went horribly he was working hard- Residents Qld were in all sorts and he came off the bench and missed one tackle he came across the field and covered made 17 tackles in a short time.

He became one of my favourite ISC players to watch over the last 12 months.

Can't name NRL examples but I have been beating his leadership drum since 2017 and haven't altered a bit.

Hodges said at the start of the week he wasn't too sure who should be captain, by Tuesday he said Carrigan in a land slide- never seen a young leader like it.

He has impressed me in rep camp when everyone is the gun of their club.

Then in the game was showed the right call was made by staff.

Carrigan only needed 4 ISC games to get up to 80 minutes, then he was having a great impact for Wynnum in 2018. Some stand out games for me he got 228m against the Cutters and made 36 tackles. He played 70 plus minutes five weeks in a row.

Originally I thought he was wasted at front row I liked him middle third but not doing that hit up job but he won me over with two games from front row.

Origin 2018 Queensland had the worst start- kick off out on the full, penalty and repeat set in the first minute. Carrigan has calm the whole time and told the guys exactly what he wanted from this point and then he set about doing it. The first set Queensland got the ball after the debacle he took two hit ups and got them moving.

Queensland had zero ball first 10 minutes, Clifford kicks to the corner and Carrigan is down there first to defend, big tackle and ball comes out, he takes the first hit up after the mistake back in position then Clifford scores down the right. That was after being a tremendous leader all week and being named captain.

Then he goes up to PNG and plays in the middle against PNG. They're monsters and that's a hard trip and he was exceptional.

If he gets to start at front row for Brisbane that's a positive to come out of this.

You've obviously going to say that's not NRL.- but I couldn't have looked more closely at his leadership over the last three years and I am normally very conservative but I have been convinced for those three years he's a future captain and publically said it for three years.

He will do a great job.

@1910 I know you watch alot of games in the development leagues that majority don't see, so I feel better that you see something in Carrigan. Looks like he is going to start his captaincy career with the same 12 man handicap we had last season so will be a great test.

You'd suspect wrong, have never called for him to be stripped of his captaincy . As for the others , who cares. If he's our best option than it should be him , carrigan doesn't need the baggage atm. Let him lead by doing his job and let the experienced guy handle the C.

One off. TPJ.
This time last year you led us to victory over the cowboys.
Do it again.

He doesnt need a highlight reel, because he is Patrick Carrigan. Once you understand that, you get why he is captain. Anyone who knows anything about Rugby League knows what he brings, knows why he is going to be captain. Its been clear from the first time he pulled on a Broncos jersey in the u20's. He will be the glue that holds this team together.

Meyn is a spud, and thats being generous to him.

The one bloke he can’t control his behaviour, temper, and gives repeated stupid penalties. And you’d choose him over Carrigan? You don’t have much of an idea do you.

I like TPJ, but he isnt captain material.

I know we won R2 2019 and TPJ was the difference maker. That's what my eyes tell me.
