OFFICIAL Carrigan signs until 2028

Champion lock forward Pat Carrigan will be a Bronco until at least the end of the 2028 season. The Wally Lewis Medal winner for Queensland's player of the series in last year's Origin triumph was already signed with the Broncos to the end 2024 - and he has now committed to a four-year extension in a huge show of faith in the club.

The 25-year-old's stellar form last season also saw him make his Kangaroos debut and go on to win the World Cup in England, his 2022 heroics all the more remarkable considering he was returning from a knee reconstruction that required a gruelling nine-month rehabilitation. During his breakout 2022 season, Carrigan averaged a huge 150 running metres (61 of those post-contact) and 32 tackles per game, as well as 21 tackle breaks and 19 offloads. A key member of Brisbane's Leadership Group and graduate of the Broncos Academy, Carrigan joins a host of teammates to commit to the club long-term.

Kev Walters:

"This is a great day for the Broncos because Pat embodies what we are about as a club and he is at the heart of what we are building here together. He has grown as a player through our club's Academy system, going on to captain our NYC team before graduating to the NRL squad and building into the player that he is today - and the impressive thing is that all he wants to do is continue to improve. We were all incredibly proud of what Pat achieved last year because we all saw how hard he worked to come back from serious injury, it was an inspiration to all of us here at the Broncos. He is a key part of everything we do and to have him commit to the Broncos for another four years is really special - I'm really excited for what lies ahead for both Pat and for everyone at our club.”

Carrigan:

"I love this club and I could never imagine leaving - we are building something special here together and I wanted to make a long-term commitment to be a part of that. A lot of us guys have been through the tough times together and now we are starting to show signs of what we can do if we work hard and work for each other. I'm here for the long haul and I'm excited about what we can achieve together over the years ahead.”

Favourite broncos player right now, do we know the numbers of the contract I wanna see how well run we really are. 5 years is great at 700k 🙏🏼
700k, it would surely be more than that. The salarycap is 12.1mil this year which is a big increase.

Wolfie saw a hand written note that said “Carrigan new brisbane contract” and thought “oh no, Carrigan to new brisbane team!” It’s all good Wolfie. We can’t all have top tier info like Herbie to Dolphins 2 months before it came out.

Wasn't Herbie set to get an early release and wasn't going to be here to score his two tries?

Things change I guess...

On a serious note, this is awesome news. Definition of a franchise player.

Everyone go easy on Wolfie. You guys smashed @Smokin' Joe when he got Fifita wrong and now he never shares anything at the risk of something changing and him being ridiculed. I appreciate that Wolfie has some level of connection to the club and shares it here when he can.

Haas & Mam next followed by
2 other M’s( Mozer & Mariner)
Cobbo & Walsh should be our long term priorities.

Let’s get it done!

Big extension to a key player handled quietly and efficiently before he even hit the open market. This is exactly how all the quality clubs do it and hats off to Broncos for handling this perfectly.

Carrigan is a future captain and will only get better with time.

Bet the dolphins would have traded both Flegler and Herbie to get their hands on Patty … this is a huge win.

I think that is how it will be handled too. Mozer and Mariner I think can wait to next year though as I think they are both to 2025, gives us a chance to see them in first grade this year too before opening the chequebook.

Old Pete (Badel) and his mates were writing up the article about clubs set to swoop on Bronco's "superstar", the ink was barely dry and then it was revealed he re-signed, that article was swiftly taken down.

Good stuff Pete, you're a real prophet (and a flog).

Agree. I for one, would blindly sign Mozer for life just for the fact that he’s is a GENUINE 9 who’ve tremendous potential. He will surely be a superstar in the making & I don’t want to let go of that star player.

Pffft, nah screw @Wolfie, he loves it. There is also that element of Chinese whispers where this person said that who said it to someone else and before you know it, Peter Wallace is lacing up the boots for us from a reliable source.

@Smokin' Joe still pokes his head in occasionally to like posts etc but I actually think it's more to do with the way the place is these days and he doesn't want to be even remotely responsible for a leak.

First of all, this. Well said. Thing I hate most on BHQ is people discrediting information that we receive. If it's wrong, who cares? It might have been right at the time and things change. I'd rather have some kind of rumour than nothing at all.
