[Confirmed] Ben Barba signs with Cronulla

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

I don't necessarily agree or disagree with most of that, all I will say is the spine looks a lot more balanced with boyd in it. Many people in the media etc have been saying for a long time they have doubts how a spine of barba and milf would work as they are too similar. They are obviously saying this for a reason.

But that's the end of my input into this whole saga, it's gotten ridiculous and sooner or later people will have to realise that despite what they think is the best team is boyd will be the fullback, so suck it up.

FTR that last paragraph wasn't directed at you

It's okay, I took offence to it anyway. Insert derogatory comment here and something about your mother.

Sharks to announce Barba deal soon | NRL | Zero Tackle

Expect the Cronulla Sharks to announce that Ben Barba is a done deal sometime in the next week.

The Sharks and Broncos have secretly been working out an arrangement that will see the Cronulla club take over Barba’s contract - worth close to a million dollars a season with ‘extras’ - for the next three years.

I’m hearing it is all but a done deal, with the Broncos happy to pay part of Barba’s wages next season just to move the former Dally M Medallist on.

The writing was on the wall for Barba as soon as the Broncos started chasing Darius Boyd - the man Wayne Bennett wants in the fullback spot.

$1m a season with extras for Barba

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

Apparently Barba to Sharks is looking more and more likey. I hope not. I was eager to see what Wayne could do with Barba's confidence issues. Bennett's always be known as a player manager and great motivational wise, and I feel that's one of the things Barba needed.

All it takes is for a player like Barba is a bit of luck and they're back to their best. Sometimes it can be as simple as the correct bounce of the ball and back comes his confidence. They were a few instances this year where we'd make a break with Barba in support, but for whatever reason he wouldn't get the ball.

If in a few of those moments Barba received the ball, especially during the early stages of the season, who knows what his year would have turned out like. Just go back and watch his first game and there were some promising signs for him to explode back to his best form.

I just wish we could see the what Bennett could do with him. But thanks to Bennett and Boyd's relationship, there goes Barba's career...

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

If the Sharks are paying him $1 million a season ... why the hell do we need to pay part of his salary, he isn't even on that much with us (even the 3rd year of his contract when he gets a pay rise)

on a side note, i wonder how this will work considering his Bulldogs release, which was that he could move to Brisbane for family reasons, but in 2014/15, he could not earn more than his Bulldogs contract.

I wonder if due to the conditional release the Bulldogs gave him, they would be able to stop the move (at least until the 2016 season).

So, another Lurker rumour being taken as gospel.

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

See I don't understand the luxury ride Boyd gets. Isn't it enough that he follows Bennett around?

Why is it, that on top of getting a guaranteed spot in the 17, he also gets the fullback position ahead of everyone else? He should also be required to prove himself to be the best man for the job.

Its not fair that he can basically change to any club that Bennett goes to and be guaranteed a spot in the 17, furthermore that guaranteed spot happens to be at fullback.

Why can't he play on the wing or at centre? Why does it have to be at fullback? I believe just being in the squad is enough and that he should not have a guaranteed position in the team. If he proves he's the best man for fullback, then so be it. It just seems a little unfair that before Bennett's even seen the rest of the players, he can hand the fullback position to Boyd.

Imagine if Bennett ever went to Melbourne, Boyd would be fullback over Slater, or if Bennett went to Souths, Boyd would be fullback over GI.

only with the Broncos unless you are stating that Cronulla will **** up his career

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

In saying that if Barba leaves, we should hurry up and sign Boyd. We've lost Hoffman and potentially Barba so we'll have no fullback. I just hope its not like the Milford situation last year where we sacked Wallace and Prince in the hope Milford would come, but it didn't happen.

We have Eden.

Is he such a bad option?

I don't think we can put Barba in GI or Slaters class.

i am going to take a guess with your question.
I would say Cyril Connell taught him the value of giving players that need it a bit of love and attention. The Broncos won't gain or lose too much between Barba and Boyd so Boyd gets the gig.
WB said sometimes Cyril would bring juniors to the Broncos that in WBs words could not play the game to a high standard and as such were no chance of ever succeeding. When WB asked Cyril why he said he needs to get away from the environment he is in to give him a chance at life

I think Barba had to go first as that is probably the red tape holding up the Boyd signing

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

Yeah of course they'll ruin his career. Souths, later followed by Parra used to be the place you'd go to destroy your career, now it seems like Canberra and to an extreme extent the Sharks.

I dislike the Bulldogs but I hope the dogs sign Barba again. I wish Barba never left in the first place. Des got him playing with confidence and to his potential. Even in 2013 he wasn't bad, considering his comeback from his issues. Barba would be a star again and would tear us apart whenever we'd verse them. Imagine him with the Morris twins and Lafai.

We moved heaven and earth to get him knowing of his personal problems and now we've just turfed him after one year. Plus some ordinary coaching really didn't help him regain top form. It takes time to get over injuries and personal problems, and there were signs of good things to come, especially with Supercoach Bennett back in charge. He is the kind of figure that would of gotten the best out of Barba, but he just happens to be so self obsessed with Boyd.

Some players at the Broncos seemed to get so many opportunities despite poor form, and Barba after just one season is told to look elsewhere especially when he was given the pressure of being our saviour. A bit of favouritism from Bennett all because of his want to sign Boyd. But what can you do...

Just imagine if Milford was our fullback last year and played awful. Would we discard him as quickly as we did Barba? Probably because he would be conflicting with Boyd's position in the team, so therefore I'd dare say Bennett would get rid of him as well.
