[Confirmed] Ben Barba signs with Cronulla

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

According to the Sharks forum (Who knows how much of it is even remotely true), Barba was in Cronulla yesterday having coffee with Ennis (Supposedly pictures of it) instead of at the Broncos jersey launch.

The deal is pretty much done according to them, that might be what's causing the hold up with the Boyd contract.

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

Well, i'll go on record as saying i think it sucks he's leaving, as i think he could still play a part for us next season.

Anyway, onwards and upwards ..... let's hope Boyd snaps out of his playing coma and tears it up next year !!

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

Is Bennett trying to get rid of everybody that could put pressure on Boyd for the fullback spot, to ensure Boyd keeps it even if he continues to stink it up

Don't question the Leader's omnipresent wisdom.

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

Biggest fucking mistake the Broncos have ever made IMO. What they've done to Barba is disgraceful.

But Boyd is a rep winger, so clearly he is the best option at fullback, it is also why it was necessary to move several players on to make room for his reported 600k a year salary.

On side note, i wonder how much of Barbas wage we are paying.

On a second side note i have a bad feeling he will tear us to shreads when we play the sharks this year. Especially with Kearney as our defensive coach.

I think its a bit more simple than a conspiracy, Bennett just obviously doesn't rate Barba that highly.

I personally think it is a shame as i was really hoping Barba would shine at the Broncos and i enjoy watching him play but in reality he does not seem to have a spot in Bennetts starting 13 so we are looking at losing a bench utility or a back up back line player.

I was/am on the Barba over Boyd side but not enough to lose sleep or post in anger, there was every chance Barba had another 2 underwhelming years with us and the sack Barba threads would have been the popular place to hang out.

On the bright side, losing Barba may make it easier to keep some of our younger players that people have such high hopes for.

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

I think its even easier than that - Bennett wants Boyd as fullback fullstop. Doesn't matter who else the club has or how well they play and how bad Boyd plays, Boyd will be the fullback.

Agree, and he has pretty much said so himself. His quote along the lines of Boyd is the best of them kind of gave it away.

Whether people like it or not Boyd is the first choice Broncos fullback and Milford is the first choice five eighth. Without getting into the arguments as to whether that is the correct move, it seems to be fact. Given this fact, Barba is at best a bench player in our squad so while not agreeing with the reasoning, the logic for Bennett to try and get rid of him makes a lot of sense.

It's good to see that you are finally coming around

Oh I agree - despite what some people still think, the fullback position isn't up for grabs. No matter how well anyone plays in the trials, Boyd is the fullback for 2015-2017, and Milford is the 5/8th.

Like I've said before, I hope Barba leaves. I don't want to see him get 10 minutes a game off the bench. I watch football to be entertained, and watching Barba play from fullback is entertaining, so I'd rather see him play at another club than not play.

Well Bennett's just granting your wish, so you should thank him

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

It's not the release of Barba and the signing of Boyd, or even the comparison of their playing abilities.

It's the first sign of Bennett's say is Bronco Law and the fact that we've well and truly put all our eggs into this basket with Bennett's return.

We never needed another fullback (let alone one as vanilla as Boyd) and we've cut Hoffman and Barba because Bennett said so. That worries me greatly for the long term success of the club.

Bennett clearly has a conflict of interest when it comes to Boyd, and that seriously undermines his integrity.

Or it actually seriously undermines the chances of Kodi/Jayden Nikorima (or any other promising fullback) staying at the club, because Bennett doesn't run a meritocracy.

Re: [RUMOUR] Ben Barba to Cronulla

"We need to drop the players who aren't performing"
"wait, Bennett wants to drop Barba?! **** Bennett! Conspiracy"

it it seems more like Barba was offered a chance to take the fullback spot but doesn't want to try. It isn't Bennett having coffee with people in cronulla. It was Barba. It wasn't Bennett trying to get released last year. That was Hoffman. You guys are just being ridiculous, but that's come to be expected.
