What about the Nikorima's? we keep getting told that they should be there over Boyd anyway, so surely this is a win for those posters at the very least

Barba leaving is great for Jikorima as he now has a shot to be our bench utility that Barba was Rumoured to be. Might not and probably won't be given it but it's more likely now at least.

Kodi IMO is u20s only and basically Corey Norman all over. I don't see him making it.

The real loser from u20s is Ashley Taylor. As a result of Milford being five eight and Boyd being fullback he now has no future with us.

I feel it is between him and Parcell for the utility spot.

taylor still has time on his side. if he really wants to make it there is nothing stopping him from hanging around like Hunt did and using the time to play against grown men in the ISC, etc.

we all know u20's proves nothing as far as when it comes to the big time. in any case, there is no guarantee taylor would be an NRL superstar.

the plaudits for him are bordering on delusional. yes he looks a good prospect but he has a fair way to go before he certifies himself as one. Like DCE did, he needs to prove himself at a state cup level before we think about how we can fit him into first grade.

I don't disagree he has a long way to go but I do disagree he has time on his side. Milford and Hunt will likely be our halves until 2020 and beyond (something I'm not at all unhappy about, but would have been happier if Milford were fullback).

Taylor would be an idiot to stay around. If I am honest, Hunt was an idiot to stay around too. Glad he did though.

Is Bennett trying to get rid of everybody that could put pressure on Boyd for the fullback spot, to ensure Boyd keeps it even if he continues to stink it up

We don't need a back up fullback on that money when Kodi Nikorima is similar too Barba in attack and will do just fine.

Question to the posters claiming that signing Boyd has doomed Taylor and Jikorima from having a spot in the club - What do you expect the club to do while we wait to see if these guys are the best option? Put a be 'Position Vacant' sign on the five eight spot for the next few years?

Bennett would have watched him this year and he didn't earn a lot of merit badges. He didn't even finish the season for us at fullback. He thinks Boyd is a better option.

What you don't seem to be seeing is that it didn't matter how Barba played, Bennett was never going to not bring Boyd with him to play Fullback. Even if Barba won the Dally M this year we would still be pushing him out of fullback next year for Boyd.

I'm jumping off this merry-go-round, but I will ask you this. If Barba can be turned around why is it that the only club that will sign him is the cronulla ****ing sharks? Surely if the improvement is there every other club would have jumped on him for what I assume will end up being not a lot out of the salary cap?

Maybe it's time to wonder if all the people in the media etc. were right when they said Barba won't come close to 2012 again.

We signed Barba for 3 years last year, so the other clubs that wanted/needed him went out and spent their money on someone else since Barba wasn't going to be available for another 3 years.

Taylor is 20 in March, realistically he has around 2-3 years left before you'd start to wonder if it will happen for him, it's not uncommon for halves to break through in their early 20's these days either because they're simply not physically ready, or there's a logjam in front of them.

Thurston was 22-23 when he moved to the cowboys and got a spot in the halves

taylor has plenty of time. let him prove himself in the ISC and if he's pulling up trees, by all means let's discuss it. the fact he's had a shoulder reconstruction in the past in the u20's proves he's not physically ready yet. let's have some grown men run at him and see if he can handle that on top of cutting teams to shreds.

Thats pure speculation which is foolish to either argue for or against.
Barba wasn't the dally m player of the year in 2014, he wasn't fullback of the year, he didn't even end up the clubs fullback so I'm not sure why it's even a scenario.

It was reported this year that Barba approached Griffin about playing 5/8 when his confidence was down at fullback

dumb. people joke about broncos signing every fullback but realistically with hoffman going theres only boyd and barba, given milfords going to play 6.

if boyd breaks a leg in rnd 1 we are left with no full backs if barbas gone.

Id prefer an under 20s player who can catch a bomb. Or Maranta. Remember when Barba played fullback and everyone wanted him to be replaced by Maranta? Yeah that happened. Everyone seems to forget all the bad Barba did. On top of that, he needed to come to Brisbane. He was coming to Brisbane no matter what. We signed him to aid both the Broncos and Ben. Raiders have Jack Wighton as there best option

Titans picked hoffman for fullback with both Barba and him seemingly available

Cowboys would surely move Morgan back into the halves if Barba is as good as you claim, or barba could even play in the halves

Roosters have an unlimited salary cap and surely Barba being the amazing player that is about to magically regain top form would see RTS back on the wing

Dragons have made dugan a centre, so are you telling me the amazing barba isn't better than adam quinlan or whoever else they are going to play there

Newcastle have rid themselves of the deadweight boyd, surely the would love barba

Maybe, but if he had have been killing it at fullback I think another 5/8 option would have been tried and Barba left at 1. As both players were struggling it was an easy swap. Only Griffin would know.
