It's not a game: it's his job.
Its still just a game even if it is his job. And their are plenty of things in life more important than either.

For 80 minutes a week it can be the most important. Its still just a game even if it is his job. And their are plenty of things in life more important than either.

He’s appointed VP’s, essentially. I’d like to know the scope of their individual purviews. Making sure everyone’s drink is topped up, etc.Siebold is doing what a great leader does - ensuring his charges (in this case the playing group) shares the responsibility for their performance. You heard him in the videos recently - he has different guys in the leadership team having responsibility for certain areas, and he specifically mentioned another 2 guys NOT in the leadership team who will also play a part in taking charge on the field - I assume Milf is one, unsure about the other. But that's beside the point.
More here then "just a game of footy"
Happiness is more important than anything in life . No game or job is more important than that .That’s how you lose your job. See Darius Boyd for more info.

If its just a game then why is he clinging to it so strongly? Why not just retire if its "just a game"? Can't have it both ways, take it seriously or give up the money. Haven't heard too many ceo's come out after putting in poor years at a company and say to their shareholders "it's just a job", have you?

Good call. Forgot all about that one.

He was definitely encouraged to step down:
Sam Thaiday quits Brisbane Broncos captaincy
Brisbane Broncos NRL forward Sam Thaiday says he remains committed to the club despite stepping down from captaincy after discussions with coach Anthony Griffin.www.smh.com.au
"After a long season, I came home and had a couple of lengthy chats with the coach and the coach's thoughts were that it would best for myself and the team and I play my best football when I don't have the added responsibility of being Broncos captain”

Not if you're the one paying them.Happiness is more important than anything in life . No game or job is more important than that .
So it's our problem now that we want our captain to not downplay losses? We should just stop watching footy? Lol. Surely that's in jest? We, or at least I, understand that there are many, many more important things in life than footy. Even brain surgeons and paramedics have more important things in their life than their job. But with pay comes responsibility to take ownership of their performances. Just like a ceo. Was he trying? Of course he was. But if I was getting paid $100,000s of dollars there's no way in hell I would or should downplay my poor performances, I'd be expected to take ownership of them. Especially as a leader in the team/department/company.He can still take it seriously, just as Boyd did. Its if they lose the passion and enjoyment it becomes a problem. He can still set a good example and work hard in training. If he is happy doing what he is doing for a job thats fine, if he isnt, then he can stop or change. And i dont agree with the CEO comparison. A footballers role in a company is very different from a CEO's role in a company. Even a captain doesnt have the responsibility a CEO does. If your worker isnt doing the job, thats up to management to deal with. They didnt think Boyd was doing it, so they replaced him.
But at the end of the day, fans getting worked up over a game of footy to me is absolutely hilarious. Its really not worth getting worked up about. It is just a game. If you lose your enjoyment for it, just dont watch. Its a bit masochistic to carry on doing something you get no enjoyment from and that makes you angry. Dont expect or even care if people have a different view, thats what being on a forum is all about, everyone is different. I just dont want to get worked up over a game of footy in the scheme of things. Look at whats going on around Australia and the devastation we have seen recently. Thats the kind of important thing that matters.

Can be, but like i said, is it really worth getting so worked up about?

Of course people on here enjoy footy! Just because they get pissed off about something occurring in the game doesn't mean they should give it away. Bloody hell, what type of fans would they be if every time they got pissed off at something they gave it away. Talk about an overstatement. This part of your argument has gotten a bit ridiculous, in defence of boyd you are claiming people should give the game away because something boyd is doing is pissing them off? Haha these same people that are annoyed at boyd could be involved in the game for 50 years, have kids playing it and volunteer on the weekend. But hey, give it up guys, Boyd's annoying you, you obviously don't enjoy it now hahaNope, not in jest. Only a complete fool would carry on doing something they doesnt give them enjoyment. If football makes you as angry and bitter as some people on here, then give it away, unless you like being bitter and angry i guess. Also, the responsibility of a football player is nowhere near a CEO, or a brain surgeon. They are basically just entertainers when all is said and done.
And the Boyd quote on here is badly taken out of context anyway and just used as another thing to have a pop at him with. The actual jist of it was how he learnt to deal with the criticism on social media when he was working through his mental health issues. He never once tried to downplay it as an " Oh well, doesnt matter if we lose, its just a game " type thing, which is how a lot of people on here took it because they just saw the " its just a game " quote and jumped on it without reading the whole thing. So he didnt downplay our losses as you said he did in the " its only a game " article.

Of course ceo's and brainsurgeons have more responsibility haha but they don't get paid much more than boyd does most of the time. With money comes responsibility to take ownership, if you don't like it give it up. It's that simple.
