Copley vs Reed

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

I agree with Cult3 I'd prefer to keep both, especially for the beginning of the year. But then , all things being equal, I'd go for Reed. We've just lost a lot of experience in the backline with Hodges retiring. I can see Reed taking on more of a leadership role.

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

Copley has been around for a while now, is he really that good?

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

Copley is a good player and so is Reed, both have their own strengths and weaknesses that need to be seen from both sides instead of pointing at one and saying oh that's the dud. Personally I think neither have a morgage on a spot in first grade as they aren't as great as made out to be and there is growing competition around them that are younger and probably even more hungry. As Copley is heading elsewhere, I want to make it clear, Reed's head shouldn't be safe from the chopping board either, 2016 needs to be the season he justifies remaining.

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

The thing you guys need to understand is, it's not like we're getting rid of Copley because we rate Reed higher, I dare say it's the polar opposite, we're moving Dale on purely for the salary cap benefits, not a single team in the NRL would take Jack Reed's remaining 2 years, even if we threw in $100,000 as a sweetener.

If their contracts were reversed and Dale had 2 years left and Reed was on an expiring contract, we'd be seeing something completely different. I hope Dale succeeds wherever he ends up, and have no doubt he probably will.

Wrong.

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

Name a single team in the NRL at this current point in time that has the salary cap space, positional space, and want for a league average, injury-prone centre entering the post-prime of his career.

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

I doubt Reed would last long on the open market.

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

Lol

"Reed sucks, everyone in the world is better than him. He's terrible" - A bunch of people.
"Copley has a short highlight reel" - Me

I think you need to aim your response at other people, mate.

It looks like you've got to pay more attention, pal.

I'll do up a couple and we will find out.

It truly is a long off-season...

Sounds like a marquee Gold Coast signing.

He isn't post prime, average and is less injury prone than the other option.

Titans, Tigers, Souths, Canberra. That's 4 without much thinking.

I agree with Unbreakable that Copley is an easier player to sell, but Reed isn't chop liver and I'm sure a few clubs would be interested in him for the right price.

A) I said entering his post-prime (Which is more or less true, most outside backs start regressing late 20's), as his contract has 2 years left to run.
B) He is most certainly average, you could probably argue that he's a hair below/above average, but it'd be debatable either direction.
C) Him being less injury prone than Copley is extremely debatable, Copley had a couple of freak accidents like his broken leg, all of Reed's injuries are reoccurring shoulder injuries that he's had his whole career.
D) Titans - Terrible organisation, they'd probably view Reed as a long-term franchise player, don't doubt it.
Tigers - No chance, spent all their salary cap on their young guys and signing Ballin & Grant, also their centres are better than Reed.
Raiders - No chance, just re-signed Leilua & Croker is their captain.
Souths - Doubtful, they're not that silly.

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

I don't know if this is the choice but Souths wouldn't jump at Reed over Goodwin in a heartbeat? An international center wouldn't attract interest from other clubs? Hmmm, ok.

How long is he going to be riding the "International Centre" wave for? He hasn't played a game for England in 5 years lol.

I'm not saying he's bad, I'm just saying he's average. Which 99% of the NRL community would agree with that aren't Broncos fans, I'm just trying to be realistic here.

Re: Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2016

Wouldn't it be funny if Copley left, and then when he comes up against us he completely destroys Reed?
Unfortunately, I can really see that happening... but I won't be laughing.

He has had offseason surgery the last couple of years. He would have been selected for the series against NZ two months ago if not for another shoulder reconstruction and you are well aware of that. I am not Reed's biggest fan, far from it, but the guy is definitely better than 'just above or below average'.

I absolutely agree Copley has much, much more potential but there is no way anyone unbiased can say no clubs would be interested in Reed. Someone mentioned above four legitimate clubs just off the top of their head and I am sure an unbiased person could easily see that they all had merit.

I never said Copley wouldn't be the easier sell, my objection was to the statement that no one would take Reed. It was a ridiculous statement and for once I wish those statements would get called out.
