Corey Oates re-signs till 2017

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

If he's "shocked" at the amount of money offered then that confirms good old Ricky.

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

Oates should be respected when it comes to his value, he is a 19 year old forward who already played 20+ games and in those games he has shown enough talent that Glenn should be looking over his shoulder.

He is a BIG (what we need), young, versatile forward who has pace, strength (great examples of this are his tries against the knights in late 2013 and 2014)and an obvious maturity since he got a start so young for a forward

For him I say break the bank he will be worth it and there wouldn't be many young players I would say that for

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

TBH I wouldn't be too upset if he left. I don't think he's really shown that hes going to be a star. He's played pretty well, but nothing outstanding. He might turn out a great player, but its far from a sure thing.

I do tend to agree with this line of thinking TBH. He is a great young prospect, but so was Learoyd-Lahrs.... The grass isn't always greener, no matter what money is put on the table for your services.

Having said that I don't think he will be going anywhere, but there are others who will be shown the door from what I am hearing. It won't be overnight or even in the next season, but more heads will roll on and off the field.

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

If we lose Oates, I will be absolutely livid. He will be a rep back rower in 5 years.

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

Hi all, I'm a first time poster but I just read a story on news . com.au under nrl signings that Oats has signed until 2017. Not sure how accurate this is.

Welcome mate. That was reported but it was later retracted as some big offers came in before it was signed and/or registered.

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

I would keep Oates over even Gillett. My respect for him dropped off significantly this year. He was performing well below what his profile as a player would suggest.

Yeah agreed, long term he'll be our premier back-rower.

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

I'm hoping Gillett's really poor form post-origin was related to that shoulder injury of his.. but I'm not sure it was.

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

THE NRMA Insurance Broncos have locked up one of the best young forwards talents in the game with Corey Oates inking a new three-year contract.
Already signed for the 2015 season, Oates agreed last week to a two-year extension that will keep him at the Broncos until the end of 2017.
Amazingly, the teenage Central Queensland product has played 29 NRL games before his 20th birthday.
His signing comes on the back of gun halfback Ben Hunt locking in a new three-year deal last week.
While contracts always present a bit of negotiating, Oates said he was never going to sign elsewhere.
"I am very happy and can't wait to be here for another three years," he said.
"This has been my club since I was a little boy, so the last thing I wanted to do was leave.
"The family were in the negotiations, which was something my manager and I wanted to do.
"They were happy with everything, and so was I.
"It's a really good outcome and I am really happy to be staying for another three more."
Oates had a steep learning curve this year, playing 20 games in the forwards after debuting on the wing as an 18-year-old in 2013.
He said building his experience and game time were his next goals.
"It was a big change but second row is the position I prefer," he said.
"I played most of my senior schooling there.
"Last year was a great opportunity and it helped me a bit this year - I probably wasn't as scared as I was going into the nine games last year.
"It was a lot harder and more physical (this year), but I loved it.
"It was really good fun and hopefully I can carry on next year and get a lot better in my game."
Oates has had off-season surgery on his shoulder, but said he would be back for the 2015 trials.
Now his future is settled, he feels ready to go.
"I just had a little tear in the front of my shoulder and it was best to get it done," he said of the operation.
"I should be back for the last two trials next year.
"Hopefully it will go good and I will be back as soon as possible.
"It's exciting, I love playing at the place and I am very excited to be here for another three years."

Oates Signs Long-Term Contract - Broncos

Edit: Awww, I got pipped.

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

He'll never leave as long as we want him I reckon, loves the club

Re: [Rumour] Corey Oates ---> Elsewhere

Another step in the right direction. Just hope we were not forced to pay overs for him.

I think Bennett will the deciding factor in how much he gets.

I highly doubt Bennett would pay the kid overs.

Sounds like it took a bit to keep him. Hoping it was more the manager than him. Probably debating more playing time over $$$
