The thing to remember with Ash, is it's not like letting him go early has really cost us. People seem to think it has, but it just hasn't. If we don't let him go, all it means is he stays at our club for 1 more year - a year where he was unlikely to get much/any first grade time, at which point he would have signed (likely) for the Tits or someone else then.
Either way he was likely to go, and I would much rather he be gone and thinking "how nice are the Broncos for allowing me this chance" rather than being shitty at us for blocking his path for 12 months
