Dally Ms 2020

So pointing out that there were four women hosting a men's sporting awards night still isn't your idea of equality. So very, very funny. How many women do you want? Six? Seven? Would you prefer no men at all?

I have a beautiful, strong, achieving daughter - thank you.

I've been married to a successful wife for 30 years - thank you.

Having a woman head the panel of every friggin' rugby league show - and doing so with hardly an ounce of humour or levity is ruining the game.
My dad says the same thing as you about his “strong independent daughter” We had a conversation about his negative comments over my life about feminism recently, and how it affected my perception of myself and women.

My issue is your comments on feminism being a way for women to take over the roles of men, and how dare they have an opinion on rugby league...not whingeing about the total of 4 women on the panel.

I feel for the people in charge of coverage who are also bagged by having “too many old boys” or “too many journos”. This year it’s the women, next year it will be something else.

After reading all your posts your celebration of the “strong and achieving” women in your life is the equivalent of the old “I’m not racist, I have a black friend”.

I could understand the criticism was coming from if these women who don't have a background as players were trying to give an expert opinion but they're hosts and their role is to merely moderate the discussion for the producers of the show. They rarely give their 2 cents and they just serve it up so that guys like Ennis, Hooper and some current player who is just trying to collect and pay-cheque without saying anything too controversial can have their say.

Sure....but one female host could have played that role.
Having four women on stage (with their clothes on) is overkill.

As long as we are talking gender at all, we have a problem. I feel for @dazzat99 as I understand where he is coming from even if some of the sentiments expressed are emotionally charged.
A real life example from my life, and I'm sure this happens a lot.......
I was not considered for a role on a Board of Governors because I was not female.
And this happened TWICE, several years apart, at 2 very different organisations.
In both cases, it was decided that a female needed to be added to the Board to work towards gender balance.
Boards do not need gender balance, they need skills balance.
You need people good with finance, people good with marketing, leadership, and whatever the actual business is.
You need a variety of skills and experience on a board, not an equal number of men and women.
So the mindset was, we have a vacancy on our Board, let's go get the best woman we can get, rather than the best person we can get.
Anyone that cannot see this as a problem, I have nothing left to say.

Sorry to hear that your dad has those views. I have two daughters myself and always teach them the strive to become the best, put the hard work in so people can’t over look you.
I’ve always believed in equality of opportunity over equality of out come. Who ever is best suited for the job should be picked despite their gender, that’s the only true way to have equality

Am I missing something here? It's not like the girls hosting the show were really offering up their expert opinion. They were simply keeping the programme moving along and prompting the actual experts on discussion points because that's their job as hosts.

Last time I checked, you need to have played a minimum of exactly zero minutes of professional Rugby League to be qualified to do that.

Sure, it was boring, but it's an Awards night with shit programming content and a winner that everyone already knew several hours before the broadcast. I'm not sure the hosts can really be entirely blamed for that, female or otherwise.

That's your interpretation which is completely wrong of course.

You don't know me. You don't know anything about me at all - yet you believe you can judge me on one comment which is completely irrational and arrogant - to the extreme.

I'll make the point again ... why were FOUR WOMEN hosting a men's sport's premier presentation for the year and the men (former players and journalists who actually know what they are talking about) relegated to the "man cave", only to speak when the women ask them?

You and many others - my friend - have been brainwashed over many years to view such things and not only think its acceptable, but to defend it! If you were to miss out on several jobs merely because those competing against you were female, perhaps you may change your mind.

Have a good read of John1420's post. This is exactly my experience on several occasions. You can bet your life that there are men presenters who could have been chosen for at least one of the four presenters roles at the Dally Ms thinking the same thing.

I think the correct marker for equality is in the standing of the men's and women's games rather than the commentators mate. I think that shows the true gap. While the advances in the promotion of the women's game have been significant no way are they close to equal. Personally I don't care that there were 4 female hosts. I don't think they do nor do the male hosts who have plenty of opportunities in their field. I work at a University and could disagree more with your statements about academia. I'd be interested to know the basis of that view

I personally couldn’t care less how many women are on the panel. but your point about men’s nrl v women’s nrl not being equal is pretty straight forward, men’s nrl is way more entertaining. They are faster and stronger. if you put the top men’s nrl team up against the top women’s nrl team it would be 80-0 if not more. Sponsors aren’t going to pay teams as much, people aren’t going to buy tickets or memberships on the same level as the men’s competition. The main reason for this is that women and men are different which equals Inequality, not because of some fat cat in a suit driving a bmw but because of genetics.

The female commentators in NRL circles are generally pretty good. Aside from Erin Molan, she's the fucking worst thing on TV.

Yeah most of them are pretty onto it, there was one that was on triple M a couple of months ago, it was right after the broncos lost to the roosters by 50 points or something. She said that she thinks that, that sort of score line is exciting to watch and that it’s good for the game 🤦‍♂️. But she’s pretty much the only one I’ve heard spit a load of crap. Sadly I hear male commentators like to two drongos I mentioned before talking crap every week

I agree, I cannot get into the nrwl at all, though I find i really quite enjoy watching the Australian women's cricket team play. Not sure if it's because they're winning or lack of interest in men's game due to sandpaper gate, or that most of the men have the personality of a squashed slug. I know they cant hit as far, but find it to be a genuine contest between bat and ball for most games.

I wasn't talking about the physical competition of the sports. Yes rugby league is a sport where elite men will beat elite women on the field. This is the same with tennis too. However at grand slam level both sports are promoted and paid more equally. Rugby league is a fair way behind that.
