PLAYER Darius Boyd Discussion

What stress though? The entire public and media have been calling for it for months. If he does it, he won't face a backlash. Do you honestly think anyone else would do a worse job than Boyd? I don't. I genuinely don't know how someone could offer less than he does. Statistically he is the worst fullback in the comp. Not in the top 20. So get him the **** out.

He will absolutely feel backlash, you only have to look at what the media has done with both Macca and Kodi.

All season the media has been talking about how we get no go forward from Macca and if we are smart we will make a change. Seibold brings him off the bench and no those same reporters are screaming how it is disrespectful.

Every single media personality has been saying for over a year that Kodi is not a halfback and laughing at us for playing him there saying he needs to come off the bench. Seibs tried to put him there and when he cracks the sass releases him to take up a more lucrative contract and then is screamed out by the same types about how rude and disrespectful it was as he was a Broncos junior.

The same thing will happen with Boyd. Don’t get me wrong, he needs to make the change but let’s not pretend there won’t be backlash.

Rugby league media is crap, not even worth reading for the speculation.

Boyd has to go and if the Media end up liking him they should take him because he isn't worth playing at this point regardless of team.

the same will happen from Broncos "fans" on social media ... they whinge for years about the Macca and Kodi being in the spine, then Seibs drops the from the spine and he is the devil for doing exactly what they have been asking for ...

he could drop/move Boyd tomorrow, and all of a sudden the same "fans" that have been calling for his axing will switch and complain that Boyd was hard done by, how dare seibs do that to him

We have the money probably to at least try to get Falou worth the risk at this point as we have no real options.
But do we? I am not 100% sure how the cap works but i know TPAs play a part. I dont see many third parties supporting folau, which means would be investing more of our direct cap into his wage. I might be totally wrong though

Have you not seen and heard the shit now that he has demoted Macca. You read the comments from fans and they are relieved he's on the way out... you hear the media and see what they write and they call it a kick in the guts to a club stalwart or this guy is the heart beat of the team and an origin calibre hooker.

I know you shouldn't listen to the media, people are sheep, blah, blah, blah... and we as a forum obviously take out the rose coloured glasses for our team and look the other way.

But the more they spew their shit... the more the common man adopts their perspective as truth. Joe public in Sydney doesn't give two shots about the Broncos yet they see something negative about us they fucking love it and jump on it... #penaltybroncos anyone

And all of a sudden it becomes common truth and say what you want but consistent negative media will harm the club through retention, recruitment, sponsorship, etc.

Dropping Boyd from the team would be a fucking shit show... the media would swoop, they'd call out his mental health issues, they'd go into every possible crevice they can find.

The best approach is to let Boyd keep the captaincy and transition him to the centers until he retires...

You might be missing a bit of nuance there. I can only speak for myself, but I, for one, have cut Seibold slack since he moved Kodi on and demoted Macca.

Wouldn't call myself a Seibold fan yet - I think he should've acted sooner, rather than drive us to the bottom of table - but he's gradually putting out some of the fires.

I tend to agree, I was never convinced about Kodi as a halfback(that doesn't mean he wasn't a suitable option elsewhere, just not what we needed there, if he kept him but played him elsewhere I would have looked at that postively) and Turpin has really taken the opportunity at starting hooker with both hands and really doesn't want to give it up, signing Segeyaro also gets a tick too.

But there is still a lot of work to go before he convinces me he is the man for the job longterm. Starting with Boyd, be it dropping him to the Intrust Cup or moving him into the centres/wing. We need more at fullback then we are presently getting.

I've never seen this forum so unanimous about something. I'd pay $1000 bucks to know what Siebold REALLY thinks about this situation.

This isn't just irrate facebook fans suggesting ill-informed team and positinal changes, this is the collective Broncos fanbase saying "BOYD IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE OUR FULLBACK"

#byebyeboyd #bootboyd
And not just Broncos fans.. All NRL fans know Boyd is now utter puss. My mate sez to me the other day - " I couldn't give a shit about your Broncos but the continued selection of Boyd is disgraceful"

It sux to feel our team is handicapped before the ball has even been kick off.

He cannot play next year. It's bad enough handbrake McCullough has decided to.

We're kidding ourselves if we can't find a player like the Raiders did to fill in at fullback and kill it.

One thing that has occurred to me in all of this sentimental bullshit and how we can’t just toss him to the scrap heap despite constant poor performances because he is a club legend, yadda yadda yadda, is he really a club legend?

He won one comp in his debut year with little influence on the wing. He then had 2 more years on the wing for us and despite doing a job wasn’t playing a pivotal role in those teams before he followed Wayne to St George first and then Newcastle totaling 6 years away from the club.

By the time he came back in 2015, he had spent two thirds of his career interstate. And despite having his best year with us in 2015 and a half decent following season. He has been diabolical since and is having a detrimental effect on the club in this point in time.
He is also the worst and most uninspiring full time captain the club has ever selected. He also had only played under one club coach all his career and never got to learn under a different regime.

So forgive me if I don’t share the same sentiment as some are showing on these parts, but I hardly consider playing 3 early career seasons, playing outstanding footy for 2 other interstate teams for 6 years, only coming back because he followed Wayne before he played 2 decent years within no title before stinking it up for 2.5 years hardly deserving of club legend status.

Dane Carlaw is more of a club legend FFS!!!

This does make sense, though his best season with us was definitely 2016.

I don't think people are saying you can't drop him because he's a club legend... the reasoning behind not being able drop him is that a new coach walked into the club where he is the club captain.

On the back of a poorly handled ousting of the previous coach it could be expected he doesn't come in and dump the existing captain as well... especially given he doesn't know any of the existing politics in the club.

However Darius' form is so bad now that he has used up his politial capital and realistically he should be given the tap on the shoulder to move on himself or he will be pushed.
