Dean youg calls Farah a ''f---ing wog.''

What if he said 'get off me you fucking kebab eating ****? you are so greasy from all the kebabs you eat.' would that be derogatory?

Wog seems to have become a socially acceptable term in Australia.

Call someone a wog in England and you're asking for trouble.

Bit different in the UK, pretty sure wog refers to a black man over there. But yeah as you say, it's still much more taboo.

We do have 2 movies called wogboy, just sayin

Rocky. Most of the debate is about whether or not calling someone is a wog is bad.

It's not. It is the same as the other slang words used for different cultures.

"You dirty fucking pom ****"

Not great when coupled with a bad tone. But fine if joking. Just like 'wog'

Yeah he did.

He complained on the field, and didn't take it any further. It's footy, but he understands, that in the heat of the moment, and especially in a game like that, things are said that shouldn't be.

Farah is quickly overtaking Ennis as the biggest sook and biggest pest in the game. All he does is whinge to the ref.

Maybe he thinks he'll be as good as Ennis if he whinges all the time?

Are you serious?

Is that you AP? Read the entire sentence. I didn't say he wasn't a whinger PERIOD.[/quote:1j4zvvk7]

Hmmm, fair enough. He is a whinger though. one of the biggest in the game like Jester said.

Please. If someone called Young a white fuckwit nobody would care. It's so precious how people get offended by off the cuff insults.

Some of the posts in this thread are unbelievable.
Calling someone a fking wog is an insult every single day of the week, that is not even debatable. There's not a "wog" I've ever seen who wouldn't take offence to being called a fking wog. The only time it might not be is when it's said as a joke but it quiet clearly was not a joke. There is a difference between calling yourself a wog and being called a fucking wog. Some will refer to themselves as wogs(I don't) but that doesn't mean being called a fking wog isn't offensive. Calling someone a fking wog is derogatory and it is usually used by racist idiots to insult the other person.

What young did is completely unacceptable, making a racial remark is simply off limits in the NRL. Gallen got punished for it and if there is any fairness Young should be suspended or at least cop a fine as well. If the NRL have any balls they will act on this. Farah didn't complain because like any other NRL player if they do complain they will be branded as sooks but if the NRL/refs know it happened then they shouldn't need a complaint to punish him. Wouldn't surprise me if he got off without even a warning though because the Dragons are NRL love hearts.

Which shouldn't be made by NRL players who are role models for young kids.

I hope you've never seen Kingswood Country, mate.

The Rock has already said it but the context is the absolute main factor in whether is it offensive or not.

Yeah. But Thurston is be far the number 1 whinger in the game.
Most team captains are actually, because they are the only ones that can actually question the ref on his decisions, which obviously makes them look like whingeing a-holes. But some are clearly worse than others! [icon_non
My list of biggest sooks/whiners:
1- Anasta
2- Hornby
3- Thurston
4- Farah
5- Campese
6- Smith
7- Prince
8- Gidley

It's no coincidence they're all captains of their respective teams... [icon_shru

I'm glad Locky (and Parker for that matter) don't whine at every penalty given against us or that we don't get.

As for the topic, I cannot believe how easily people tone down unacceptable racist insults, especially when they're provocative. Everyone knows that even jokes can make people uneasy, and after the Johns/Inglis affair this should definitely be cracked down on! [icon_thumbs_do

Oh please. I hope if you feel like that you've never told a blonde joke, or had a laugh at rangas, or ever said anything about the fat bloke you might've come across.

It's absolutely no different to using a slang term about someone's race or religion IMO.

But if it's meant as an insult it's different you say? Maybe. But then the real issue is about insulting anyone...not the words used in the process. If you can't have a disagreement with someone without resorting to name calling you're pretty pathetic.

yes, I'm pretty pathetic [icon_lol1.

Someone recently said to me that Australians are "casually racist". It's probably true. I can't deny ever telling a racist joke, but the fact is I would never direct a racist remark at someone. Especially in a professional environment.

If I called someone a "f-ing wog" in the heat of the moment at work, I'd be marched straight to HR despite the fact that I work in a much more tolerant environment than most.

I'm not personally offended by what Young said, but he shouldn't have said it. No-one here should be surprised that people on this board are defending Young. There's a lot of "casual racism" here, far beyond the joking level. It's no wonder Queenslanders have a reputation across the globe of being backward, dimwitted rednecks.

Coxy, not to point you out but didn't you once criticise Slater for sledging Cory Paterson about depression? How is this any different? Is it possible it's because you have been personally affected by one thing, and not the other?
