Dragqueens v Broncos

It has to be black and white otherwise players will just turn up whenever they feel like it. They should be dropped if that is the norm for such a transgression.

Yep. Hopefully it's the same rule for ALL players in the squad.

Without Winter i worry even more about our chance.

From our backline he was the last attacking weapon

But that's the thing, it never would be. Lockyer could be 1 hour late and Henjak wouldn't drop him![/quote:27niyj90]

I didn't know you were in the Broncos squad? Stop speculating. [icon_wink

The news services are reporting Teo & Winterstein have been dropped for being late to training

We may as well just forefit the game then.

Dropping them would be fucking stupid.

Fine them, warn them, but at this point in time dropping them is basically shooting ourselves in the foot.

All this does IMO is give the players an even bigger excuse to not show up and get flogged by 60. Before we know it our FA will be -100.

I applaud Henjak for dropping them. Ill discipline off-field very quickly leads to ill discipline on-field (and by that I mean basically being too cocky and playing crap). The players need to know that they must obey all of the rules set down by the club. Standing these 2 down whilst they are among the best performed in the club and with the number of injuries we already have shows that Henjak is serious and players shouldn't take being in the team for granted.

And the "Lockyer wouldn't have been dropped" arguement is null and void - because he would never turn up late to training without a good reason and having called ahead about it. Because he is highly disciplined and committed and doesn't take being a first grade footballer for granted - hence why he is the best player in the world.

I'm okay with them being dropped, but you gotta lol at our potential backline this week. Not one single first choice!

MMM I had some hope but now I'm just gonna say we're going to get hammered.

Oh WTF? It's good that they are going to chastise them for being late, but wow, we're really screwed now lol.

Henjak forced into more changes
Posted April 5, 2010 19:27:00

Henjak has been forced to drop two of his starters for the trip to Wollongong.

Brisbane's pain got significantly worse on Monday with coach Ivan Henjak forced to drop utility Ben Te'o and young winger Antonio Winterstein for disciplinary reasons.

The pair, who have played all four NRL matches this season, arrived late for team training.

It is a tough move from Henjak, who is already down on senior troops with Justin Hodges, Israel Folau and Corey Parker out injured ahead of Friday night's match against St George Illawarra in Wollongong.

However, Henjak says it is a necessary decision as he has to get his message across.

"We need to have standards," he said. "We need to have those rules in place.

"They weren't very late, but they were late and that's the rule at the club and every player knows them.

"Hopefully it gets a message across."

Henjak flogged his players for 90 minutes, running a number of players in various positions during training.

He will reveal his 17-man squad on Tuesday after Brisbane skipper Darren Lockyer makes his big announcement on his representative future at a media conference.

The Broncos are in last place on the NRL ladder following a disappointing 1-3 start to their season and matches looming against the Dragons, Canterbury, Newcastle and Melbourne.

"We've steeled ourselves. We know things will turn around, it may be a week, two weeks or it may be four weeks, but we know we will come out of this," Henjak said.

"I don't care if we are last, the fans might, but it doesn't bother me.

"All I want to see is some commitment and a good attitude from the players, whether we're winning or not doesn't really matter.

"We've been here before, we know how to turn things around.

"The players can turn things around next week if they really want to."

Not a question of age

Hooker Andrew McCullough laid it on the line when asked if constant talk about so many young, inexperienced players being in the team was having a bad effect.

"If you're in the 17, you should be doing the job for the Broncos," said the 20-year-old McCullough.

"They've got a long legacy to uphold, they've been a great team since 1988.

"Whoever pulls on that jersey should be putting their hand up and wanting to have a go for 80 minutes.

"Age doesn't come into it.

"Young blokes have played Origin and played for Australia before, so age shouldn't be an excuse for us for the position we're in at the moment."

I know we got a lot of injuries but Henjak gotta stop getting players on debut. It's just not the right time for that at the moment. The team with what we got at the moment...

1. Norman (he's looking his age in his last few games, if not then put Hoffman nxt game!!!)
2. Winterstein
3. Glenn (doesn't offer much in attack but much need for defence)
4. Te'o (doesn't offer much in attack but much need for defence)
5. Copley (scored 4 in NYC, Rivett weren't ready NRL)
6. Lockyer
7. Wallace
8. Kenny
9. McCullough (try too hard, may need to spend some time in Q Cup)
10. Anderson (not very impressive so far but we don't have Taylor)
11. Sims (I thought he played reasonable against the chooks)
12. Thaiday
13. Gillett (? 1st grader yet)
14. Hunt (? play hooker)
15. Hala
16. Setu (should be dropped if continue to play reckless)
17. McGuire (doesn't do much)/Dodds (? 1st grader)

so we will have a completely new left side. Beale will most likely be left centre I wonder who will be on the wing. At this point in time a fit Steve Michaels would be pretty awesome IMO. We are getting desperate

What is up with Lockyer? He has been so quiet we can't get any tries at all.

In lockys defence he does not have Kemp,Izzy,Hodges,Hunt to shift his plays to like he is used to. We do not have any real finishes.

lockyer is supposedly the best 5/8 in australia (being the australian captain and all) why exactly is it that he can't pull out any magic himself? i'm sure his mind is willing but the 33 year old body isn't able...... not against guys in their early to mid 20's at their physical peak, for me him and wallace really need to pull their fingers out and lead the team in attack and do it quickly or step aside and let someone else do it...... tim smith would've been handy right about now..... swing and a miss on that one broncos.....

I concur.

And credit to Henjak for looking at the bigger picture, in terms of addressing the squad's poor attitude, and not being solely concerning with winning on Friday night.

So, who have we got in the backline now? Norman, Copley, Glenn, Beale.. and Rivett? Or is he injured?

I totally agree - look at a bad decision regarding discipline in "toiletgate" has haunted us - I'm not comparing the matters, but we need to ensure we take a strong line - better to keep the discipline, we'll need it as the season drags on, we're enough of a rabble already
