Eight Broncos In Kangaroos Train-On Squad

If you have an awesome season you have earned a rep jumper, I don't care if they are in their first year or 27th.. Pick the team based on form.

Agreed. The test team isnt looking for players who have been good for 5 years, its looking for players who are playing well right now and can help win a match

I disagree, but that's not new. I'm a firm believer that you don't cheapen the jersey by giving it to any idiot that has a string of good games and hot form.

You need a combination of both.

You've got to remember, it's still a 'team' you've got to pick. Swapping and changing it like a Fantasy football side isn't going to do it any wonders.

By the same token, you don't keep some nuffy player around because they were in the team the past two years prior.

But if you require players to be consistently strong for a couple of seasons before picking them, then your risk of having "nuffies" is less ;-)
It's still a bit of a joke that Carney has a test cap to his name.

IMO rep teams should be hard to crack into, and hard to play yourself out of. You need to be playing pretty bad footy to not get a preference over a rookie form player.

depends how you view test matches.

i think they should be a reward for the top 17 players at the time, not for people that have 'been there done that'. loyalty shouldnt come into it when its a team that only plays a handful of times a year at most.

I value the Kangaroo Test jersey as the most prestigious rep honour a player can get. They shouldn't be handed out like lollies to players who simply play for a team that makes the GF, or has an unusually good season and wins the Dally M (or both in the case of Mr Carney).

I think it's laughable that DCE is being touted to take the second halfback spot with Thurston missing out all together. I mean. WTF. sheens.

Fair point Coxy but there's been a few occasions where a couple of players have been selected base on incumbency and it's hurt us.

The selections that annoy me the most are those that are granted because a team won the grand final. That year we had Brett White and Ryan Hoffman picked was so silly. As was the year Wolfman got a look in.

I just have my fingers and toes crossed Parker gets in. The guy more than any other Bronco deserves to be there.

Wait wait wait....so who is the "first" halfback? Cronk? WTF?

Has to be Thurston and Cronk travelling, with Lockyer obviously. Debatable whether you take a 4th half. In that case, maybe you'd take DCE as a nod to the future, but even then I'd prefer either Soward or Pearce to get that reward for being Origin players this season.

At the same time... Pearce? Really? :shake:

Considering their club form I wouldn't reward either.

But you know Kidley will get the nod as the utility.

Off-Topic But I thought Pearce had a stronger Origin series than Soward.

Yeah they don't want to risk Thurston cos of his knee. So they're thinking about giving DCE a Kanagaroo Tour. FMD. I hope it's just a newspaper article trying to sell papers. But the coach is Sheens so anything can happen. Hello Lote Tuqiri. They also aren't guaranteeing Locky a spot cos of his injury.

I don't think Soward's form warrants a green and gold selection. Mitchell Pearce yes.

But see as much as I don't rate Soward or Pearce at club level late this season, they have to get some credit for the fact they were part of a NSW team that went within 5 minutes of winning the series this year. We all acknowledge that Origin is the pinnacle as far as a challenge of playing ability. So I think playing in that arena deserves more credit than club form, even in finals.

That said, you're right, Kidley will get in on loyalty despite the fact he's never done anything in his career.

Off topic again but I hate that logic that NSW came within a whisker of beating us this series. The preparation for Game 2 would have been completely different.

Also, I wouldn't say either played that big a role in their success. It's a point to consider but really I wouldn't have either. For the same reason why I wouldn't consider Anthony Minichiello as a potential fill in for Billy Slater.

Pearce is the best halfback in the world anyway, we don't need Thurston.

This is one of the reasons I like City v Country. It has neither the importance of a Test or Origin match, but it gives these young stars an opportunity to experience first grade representative football, and a chance for them to be appraised away from the comforts of their club. At the same time you're not bestowing a state or national jumper on a player who has exactly one good season to his name.

i like it because it injures NSW players lol.

Off Topic, but I wonder if Kidley will improve with Wayne as his coach. I'm not expecting an improvement, but will be interesting to see anyway.
