I'm confident Kahu wont let the side down. Really need Copley to fire in this game though. I suspect he will get plenty of ball down his side

Want to see plenty of this shit.

I loved that jersey. Hopefully we flog the Cowboys so I won't be nervous throughout the whole game. Speaking of jerseys, the Broncos twitter responded to someone yesterday and our jerseys will be different next year. Thank God.

I expect next years jersey will be crap. Whoever is in charge of designing the jerseys needs to be sacked.

Bring back the old Powers jersey.

I had a conversation with whoever runs the Broncos facebook page, and they said they were looking to incorporate the look of the U 20's into the new jersey. I don't know about you, but I love those jerseys.

Where did that Hoffman go? Most of those plays came down to acceleration & elusiveness. Another victim of Weight Gain 3000? Man, 2011 is the year that could have been. Like '08. And '09.

Locky going down injured cost us a Premiership, as far as I'm concerned.

would love to see some pure speed back in the broncos team. we have been so slow and bulky the last few years. it pains me to see ben barba being collared by so many forwards this season instead of bursting away down field.

I agree. I don't understand the need for bulking our outside backs. It just takes away from them their primary weapon. Outside backs need to have speed. Speed generally differentiates between playing in the backs or in the forwards, however for a long time we have lacked serious speed in our backline. When we do actually have speed we just make them slow by bulking them up. Our backline at full strength is still slower than most other backlines due to this obsession with bulking our players.

To much weights and not enough speedwork hey Unbreakable

Anyone notice how much bulkier Parker looks today than in that 2011 video?

...and yes if Hoffman goes and finds that old form he'll be a handy pickup for any club.

Where did that Hoffman go? To 5/8 from memory.

I think the question of "speed" is more complex than it seems on first look.

Your key point of "acceleration & elusiveness" is telling. It beings the whole issue of speed into focus. There is acceleration (and elusiveness) to spot an opening and make the break, but there also has to be speed of thought - to see what's there and act on it.

Then there is outright pace, either to finish the break off, or to pass the ball to a quick support runner - and there, the issue is as much about support as outright speed.

Copley and Hoffman are both quick enough as the vid above shows. Maranta is no slouch nor is Barba, although his bulk has slowed him down.

Hodges also is a good example of speed when one thinks outside the square : his step and fend for mine is speed - taken together, he is quick enough to create an opening, which then brings back into focus the key issue of ... support play (same as with supporting Parker whenever he has the ball).

In terms of speed, I think our backline is up there, both in terms of acceleration off the mark, and outright pace - maybe not at the top of the tree, but I think our back line is plenty quick - it's our support play that needs to lift to capitalize and finish it off.

Oh right haha, completely blanked out, I only watched the movie again about a week ago, great scene.

billy slater is a prime example for speed over bulk. he looks like a rag doll, a broom stick even but has been the best fullback of the modern era. how many times has he burst through off an inside ball using pure pace.
