Finals Week 1 2020

Barnett has been very poor too.
He's a better player than what he has showed today

The Knights were just happy to be there. The changes they made to last week's team paid off early but once Allan tore Tuala to shreds they lost whatever edge they had over the Rabbitohs and Souths were able to ride the game out. They should be a stronger side next season with Frizell on board and a few key players back but they'll have to work out a few positions if they want a premiership.

Souths were very patchy but once Allan crossed we knew what type of game we were in for and they went on with it. It wasn't a convincing performance, but they will go into the box seat for next week's clash against the Eels.

Difference between the two teams was the spine.
Cook, Walker and Reynolds were able to put attacking plays together when needed.
Knights rely too heavily on some Ponga brilliance, Pearce was unable to step up in a big game again and their hooker didn't have any attacking flair.

Walker is playing like Keary was at the restart after covid.
High energy and speed at the line and popping up on both sides of the ruck in the same set
Since about round 12 actually. Hugely overrated.

Souths are way too good for them. Eels should be a bigger challenge but I reckon the Souths should topple them too and probably lose to Melbourne/Penrith in week 3.
Only chance eels have of staying in the game is if theyre allowed to stand offside all night...as usual

Souffs will be getting a pretty easy ride into the prelims. Eels with both of their wingers gone will probably struggle.

If I didn’t already think the “change that needed to be made” wasn’t actually Bennett, then I definitely do now.. Watching this Rabbitohs team play Bennett-ball has been pretty fun.

To be honest, Souffs looked good under Seibold and Seibold-ball as well.

If Panthers can manage to win the premiership, they would create history in the process.

Longest winning streak to claim a premiership is 11 set by Manly in 1972. Panthers have won 16 straight at the moment.

That would be quite an accomplishment considering where they were just a year ago.

Week 1 of Finals the last few years:
2020 - 235 pts/ 40 tries
2019 - 160pts (included 58-0 in one game) / 29 tries
2018 - 195pts/ 32 tries
2017 - 141pts/ 23tries
2016 - 168pts/ 28 tries
2015 - 127pts/ 19 tries
2014 - 185pts/ 32 tries

Some of the scores we are seeing in this years finals makes me feel like we're watching Toyota Cup.

I can't find a single year in NRL history where every team has scored 20+ points in Week 1 of finals, let alone where there are on average 10 tries per game.

Safe to say something is fundamentally broken with the current product Vlandy's has manufactured.

Depending on how many times they change the rules on the run next year we will be watching touch football....vlandys has done a great job with racing but has clearly got no fucking idea with league

But haven’t you heard? The West is thriving in this new competition so everything is right with the world.

Apparently, on Friday night, the Lions v Richmond was the highest rating tv show. More people watched Better Homes and Gardens than the NRL final. If that is true, this should be worrying for the NRL and the media should be ripping into Vlandys for the horrible product he has delivered but not a peep out of the NRL ‘experts’.

Now that we are seeing all the top sides against each other in back to back games the 6 again rule change cheats these better sides employ are fully exposed.

Second marker never square, second marker moving back to become just an offside player, tackled player moving forward as much as they can, placing the ball behind the markers feet, third man in very late and slow peel off, offside as much as possible and leaving early, rolling the ball back without touching or even going close. Not playing the ball square
The second ref would help, 1 ref has no chance.

All the top sides are happy to push the ref and concede a 6 again. The contrast is stark compared to the bottom 8 sides and creates a massive advantage over the course of a game.
It's good coaching in a way but I hate the way the game is evolving.
It's here to stay because the media love it and are in love with Vlandys
