POST GAME Finals Week 1 - Broncos vs Dragons

The only good thing about today was that I won $500 in the footy doubles.

I need to vent a little and I guess this is the best place for it. I'm probably not as emotional as some others over this loss but I am extremely disappointed, embarrassed and concerned. I think I'm a pretty level headed guy so I'll give my thoughts and opinions about todays game.

I'll tell you exactly why I think today's loss is of extreme concern. The Dragons have been ordinary the last 6 or 7 weeks, below average, losing games by thrashings etc. where as on the other hand, the Broncos, we've been going great guns the last 3 or 4 weeks, beating premiership contenders the Roosters and South's and really going on a roll. Smashing teams. Rolling through them. Scoring tries from all over the field. Confidence at it's absolute peak. We have been basically unstoppable. So, coming up against the Dragons, at our home ground, in an everything to play for elimination final should mean we win pretty convincingly, right?

Wrong.

From the opening kick off, we just didn't and couldn't match the intensity of the Dragons forwards, they were steam rolling us, we had nothing. We lead 10-2 but the very next set we drop the ball and they score and the game was theirs from that point on.

They piled on 48 points on us. At our home ground. In an elimination final. With everything to play for. Think about that. 48 points to 18. They've been horrendous and we've been terrific but yet they not only beat us, they embarrassed us. They annihilated us. They tore us to shreds. We were never in it. It wasn't only a loss. It was a horror show and we were the main event.

I'm sure us, as fans, can accept a loss, I know I can, as long as the team plays with some heart and desire I can accept we can't win every game, it's just not realistic. But, to be beaten the way we were today, in front of our fans, in Sam's final game with everything to play for is a disgrace to what the Brisbane Broncos stand for. It's an embarrassment to the fans. It's a disgrace to the jersey. I know we are getting laughed at.

We have been going downhill every year since 2015 and this loss should spark some sort of change. I'm Wayne's biggest supporter but after today, he really can't blame the board for not wanting to renew his contract for 2020 and beyond. Look at us. We just aren't a top 4 team. Our defense sucks but imo, our biggest weakness is our mentality. We are weak mentally. We can't go with the best teams when they step up in intensity. We just buckle under pressure and we succumb. We basically become their bitch.

This loss is an extrodinary disappointment. It feels like the Griffin era in 2012-2014. I never thought I'd feel that again when Wayne came back but low and behold, it's here. I'm personally embarrassed in the team after today and as a long time supporter am let down by the players in what they dished up to us. Totally and completely unacceptable.

I stopped watching after the Lafai try.

After Offa went off for HIA we kinda lost some fire in the belly, momentum swung against us and that was it really for the rest of the game.

what to do what to do ..

Thing is, that wasn't it.

We got ourselves back in the game and we were getting on top of the Dragons winning the field position battle. But for some reason, we just couldn't maintain it.

I've said all season, the attitude in this team stinks and we aren't winning shit until it's fixed. We don't have that killer edge.

I said it after round one that there were problems in this side and got shit canned for it. I had a negative feeling all week that we were going to put in one of our classic no show performances and that everyone was getting caught up in the hype. Unfortunately I was right. It is just frustrating because I also think that there is a very good football side there trying to get out.

Interesting that the results of this weekend may have also closed the door on the two most immediate likely alternative coaching roles for Bennett, the dragons and the panthers. If the panthers keep winning, it makes it easier for Gould to slot Ciraldo into the role on a permanent basis (or until he gets tired).

Scum of the earth anyone know who he supports lol

Goal line defence was shocking, attack close to the line really bad too. It felt like the halves were going to drop the ball or were rushed all game long.

Anyone watch the press,
Badel : Wayne why was gee in the box ?
He was invited
Then he goes on about the 300k missing 5 years ago
Someone needs to put one on that clowns shiteating grin.

Journalists are worse than lawyers these days.

My favourite part of the finals so far is that the Storm and Rabbits were onside twice all night, the Dragons were rarely onside today and we were penalized for being offside all day. The R in NRL stands for random because they're making it up as they go. They can not continue to ref every game differently. The sport as a whole is fucked and I won't be watching another game for a very long time. Rugby league is fake, like pro wrestling.

The only positive really is that we are one year closer to the seemingly bad class of NYC 2008 retiring or leaving ...

It's easy to forget that this was really a building year because of the wins against most of the top 4 sides.
Next year and more than likely 2020 are our best chances.
It's disappointing to go out like that from my POV because it was a great learning opportunity for our younger guys.
It reaffirms how important it is to finish top 4.

Saints had a whole week of people telling them they were shit which always fires up even ordinary sides. Bennett would have loved that build up for our guys.

Next year we get Gillett back, a fit Bird and a young squad with another year in under the belt .
Hopefully macca can be eased out for Turpin.
Put away the razor blades people we will be in it up to our ears next year.

Gee wiz boys dont know what to say.

That was bad, wouldn’t have wished that on any supporter (even the fuckwits). Genuinely have sympathy for the Broncs fans, especially those that went to the game. Dragons weren’t that good at all.

Hopefully might be the catalyst for some positive change in the off season.

All the best.

See you guys next year.

I thought the reffing was as atrocious as our play but wasn’t surprised that was the case after the media made a point how we can’t lose with a Sutton.

Shocking game, just so disappointed in that performance. We really had nothing after that first 15 minutes. No urgency, no talk and definitely no D. Tough game to go out on Sammy but thanks for an awesome career.
Another note, did anyone notice bird hanging around all the dragons players after the game down their end? He wasn’t up with the broncs boys. It really seemed off to me, like he didn’t care and just wanted to hang with old mates. Didn’t look good to me.

Anyway, bring on 2019!!

Well, you know what they say? You are only as good as your last game. I guess we aren't very good at all.
