Finals Week 1 - Cowboys vs Broncos - Build Up Thread

If we knock out the Cowboys and put on a cohesive display I'll run down Queen Street Mall in my boxers.

Finals are a whole new ball game. Just win, FFS!

Agree - finals are a leap above a regular season game and up in Townsville the home ground advantage doesn't really exist given how many Broncos fans are always there. Still the Cowboys should go in as deserved favourites.

I think the Broncos can win. I just doubt they will.

If they do it'll be arguably our greatest finals triumph outside of a premiership winning year IMO. That's assuming we don't then go on and win it! :P

I can't believe all the negativity in this thread ... it is so un-Bronco like.

I for one think that we are a good chance in this game, and i will be cheering them home until the final siren.

LETS GO BRONCOS !!!!!!

Once and for all can we drop this ridiculous stigma that it's disloyal or 'un-bronco like' ect ect if you're not forecasting a victory for them every week ?!

just because you're not a blind optimist doesn't mean you care any less and it certainly doesn't mean you wouldn't be proud as punch to be proven wrong.

Well said. Just like you don't have to be blindly positive about every player who pulls on a Broncos jersey.

Never said we could. Every game between these two is always a close bout. A scoreline like you've suggested will not happen, absolutely not.

It might be tight early on but the Cows can run away with it once they get 8 or so ahead IMO.

Either way - if we can walk off with our heads held high... a win would be a BONUS IMO..... judging by the past month.

I don't want to be a doomsayer but even if we win .... taking on Dogs/Manly in Sydney in an elim final... taking into context their form vs our form.... I just don't think the stars are aligned.

As someone posted... we were better off going Sharks --> Souths -->

That might've give us the momentum and confidence to take on Dogs/Melb/Manly.

I'm pissed that this game is first week and we'll only have one QLD team left going into the rest.

I can tell you right now, we will not win on the weekend unless Norman learns how to pass. I was at the game on Friday and it wasn't as apparent but watching the game again now I have seen. It isn't even half time and Norman has blown 5 tires because he didn't pass. Yes Griffin is a great man manager and good defensive coach but If he doesn't see this and has a big talk to Norman during the week than that will clearly prove that Griffin has no idea about attack and is inept.

both our halves have passing problems. Norman just wont pass, and wallace takes so long to decide that he needs to pass that by that time hes got 2 defenders already tackling him.

its nothing new for wallace though, hes ALWAYS taken an eternity to make decisions - thats why so many of his grubbers bounce off defenders' legs and why he gets caught with the ball on 5th tackle so often. i would say he needs to address it, but at this stage in his career i think its safe to say hes not gonna change.

Whilst I agree with your comment about Norman, and worse, with another post which said that we had 20 video reviews of Norman's (lack of a) passing game with no visible improvements, I think your comments about Wallace are a tad harsh. True, he is infuriatingly inconsistent, but I have seen examples where is passing and kicking game is very good.

The question is which Wallace will turn up this time round.

As for our opposition, as far as I am concerned, the only difference between the sides is (we ignore) Bowen, and until that changes and he is watched constantly and the defence always ready for him, he will prove the difference ... again.

I'm actually less concerned about Thurston than I am with Bowen. I think we have pretty much always handled Thurston well but Bowen always seems to carve us up.

There is no reason we should lose this, or rather, not win it. Our forwards and outside backs easily match theirs.

Therefore, for me the things which matter are whether Norman again ignores 5 overlap situations by not passing, whether Wallace really lifts, and whether we prepare for and are vigilant of Bowen - Barba's older doppelganger.

doppelgangers a little dramatic.....!!!! Afterall Matty Bowen is still alive as far as I can tell !!! on topic, Matty Bowen has always been a right pain in the arse and definitely the player from NQ I fear the most...I feel for Norman though..on a hiding to nothing. No mistake, this is a game the Broncs can win.

if there is a neutral who isn't tipping the cowboys i'll question their sanity, but i firmly believe we CAN win this.

Lol, any game is winnable. You just need to have belief.
