Broncos centre James Roberts says pressure is on Storm in NRL preliminary final

September 17, 2017

BRONCOS flyer James Roberts has turned the heat up on the Storm, declaring the premiership is Melbourne’s to lose as a showdown looms for the NRL’s fastest man.

Roberts and Storm speedster Josh Addo-Carr will clash at AAMI Park on Friday night where not only a grand final berth will be on the line.

Roberts and Addo-Carr are widely believed to be the fastest men in the game and the crown could go to one if they find themselves in a foot race.

The Storm will start heavy favourites in the clash between the 2006 grand final rivals, having been the most dominant team in the competition for the entire season.

In a rare interview, Roberts said Brisbane would coast into the preliminary final because the pressure was on Melbourne to not choke.

“It takes all the pressure off us,” he said.

“We can go down there and worry about ourselves.

“It’s their premiership to lose, not ours.

“Hopefully we can fly under the radar and give them a good go.

“We can’t make easy errors. We need to starve them of the ball.

“If you make errors they make you pay quickly. We need to play our own game.”

The Broncos came within two points of upsetting the Storm at AAMI Park in Round 3.

Roberts raced away from Addo-Carr for the first try that night but the Storm winger scored in the dying minutes for Melbourne to pinch victory.

The speedsters played for the same junior club, La Perouse United, and Roberts said he was excited to face Addo-Carr.

“He is a really good talent,” he said.

“He has taken his game to another level and is only going to get better.

“He’s been the best winger in my eyes.

“I wouldn’t say I have him covered (for speed). We’ll see what happens.”

While Brisbane has only won four of its past 23 matches against the Storm, three of those wins have come at AAMI Park.

“We’ve beaten them down there before in the past,” hooker Ben Hunt said.

“It’s definitely not an easy thing to do.

“If we go down with the right attitude we will give it a fair crack.

“You don’t want to go in too confident. They are one of the best teams that’s played for a long time.

“We’ve got to prepare the best we can and be ready for anything.”

I don't think I've ever heard jimmy the jet speak. I hope he burns addo Carr though.

As much as i'd love him to, i just can't see how they will allow Oates to play.

The Doctors will always take a cautious approach after such a heavy head knock, as they should.

The club doctors say he will be all good.

But it's up to the NRL now. Macca and Slater had to sit out a game.

There are actually wankers willing to support Melbourne just because they hate us so much.

Fucking for real?
I said before the we are the biggest antagonist in the comp... NRL must be filthy it won't be a storm v broncos GF, because that's the only way to get fans excited for Cronk's last game.

Whatever happens the cows or roosters will have the crowd support on gf day

Melbourne is a better side, are on a fairytale year with Cronk finishing and will get all the refs' calls accordingly, the odds are completely stacked against us...and yet I feel quietly confident.

Is it up to the NRL though? I thought if it is at least a seven day turnaround, he passes all his cognitive tests, and the doc says he's good to go, that's the green light?

I wish I had your confidence...
I just don't think it's our year. Melbourne are playing like we should have in 2016, making up for the GF loss. They are stronger, faster and want it more. They won't be beaten this year unfortunately.
Next year is our year, Niko and Milf to rip the comp apart.

Jimmy The Jet embracing the underdog status. I like him.

Sportstab opening odds on how many forward passes Cam Smith will get away with, and not getting penalised not square at marker on the multi....

Last week as well it was Korbin Sims and Boyd sitting on the bench and Sims was standing up nervous and standing up through out the game and Boyd just sat there with no face expression.

Different strokes for different folks...
I don't think it reflects their love or desire for the teams results.

I'm not getting my hopes up.......but if we bring out best defensive game and hold the ball we are in with a chance of grabbing a sneaky win.

What we don't want to do is concede early points give them the lead and then have to chase.

I can't help but dream how sweet it would be to get to GF whilst knocking off Melbourne in the process.

Kahu can't even kick a goal with his groin! Once again how the hell does he play fullback? We are lucky to have him on the wing at this point let's not push our luck. What we do need next week is a new goal kicker.
I would hope he is kicking with his foot, if he is using his groin there is a definite technique issue that has to be worked on.

I think Milford should take over the kicking duties again he was doing a fine job.
