Quiney was a deserved and earned call up- what more do you need; two seasons before his Test selection- 724 @ 42 and 938 @ 49 with Shield player of the year. He should have been given more than two Tests to take that form into Test cricket.

He also got 85 against the SA Test line up in the warm up game just before the Test.

Boland is a bit risky but 7/31 and 9 wickets for the game against WA will always get a look in and take selectors interest; 25 wickets last year- 12 this year from 3 games.

He's only a shadow and his chances have increased because guys are out.


Pattinson is in there with 10 wickets from 3 games and was picked the first time after only 6 FC games. Boland has played 26 and taken 71 wickets.

It is madness. The selectors must think that on our pathetic flat wickets that pace is the only option.

Always a spot for an out and out quick bowler but gee you're discounting some skills if you only go with it. WI could do it because they had not only fast bowlers very very skilful bowlers at the same time- pretty rare.

Hard to win in England if you're not prepared to have an Alderman in your side.

Funnily enough Philanders looks pedestrian on flat wickets. I guess with the CA plan to produce flat decks the extra pace is required to get wickets. It still doesn't work though.

Flat pitches though are where you need your swing bowlers. Raw pace will work straight up at times but once a batsman is set against it, it does little.

9-73 and they won by 6 wickets.

Lyon promoted to 10? If Patto didn't beat out NCN, that would have been an absolute travesty of the highest order.

That tail looks a lot longer than it has for some time though, doesn't it.

If we can eventually get Patty and Starc fit, a bowling quartet of Patty, Patto and Starc would be a more than handy lower order. At least NCN can bat too I guess.
