Football thread 2013/14

lodged my ticket app for brazil 2014.

applied for a tst5 cat 1, which is all group games for aus, round of 16 and quarters.

when australia fail to get out of the group stage, i'll have a ticket for the winner of the group is instead. i will then incessantly cheer for whoever their opposition is.

also applied for opening match tickets but only got cat 2 for them, was 495 pp for the opening match, eyewatering...

I haven't applied yet. I'm a bit worried about my credit card, it's not an actual credit card, it's just one of those Pre-Paid Visa ones from the Post Office So it doesn't have my name on it and apparently you have to have it on hand when you go to pick the tickets up when in Brazil.

mm yeah I'd be doing my research on that before applying. not that you get charged straight away (you don't), but you'd hate to go through with it all, find you were successful, but then have some sort of issue claiming the tickets because of a card problem.

I think there will be fifa outlets in some of the qualified countries... surely they don't want 4.8 million people going to one or two outlets in brazil to pick up tickets lol.

I just read that they had massive issues at pickup centres for Confederations Cup with lines that took ages. Maybe you should have applied to be a world cup planner!

I would feel pretty conflicted about Ozil leaving if I were a Real fan. He's one of the best footballers in the world but isn't fitting on the right of Ancelotti's 4-3-3 (as I understand the situation). If Arsenal get him, it will be huge for them. Wilshere and Arteta sitting deep behind Corzola, Podolski and Ozil would be great to watch.

Hats off to Liverpool for their strong start to the season. Good to see young Mignolet making a name for himself! Now for the love of all that is holy, keep this form for the rest of the season so the trophy goes somewhere other than bloody London or bloody Manchester!

Also, just for the sake of gloating, I think I'll be seeing Australia play France at the Parc des Princes in October

Love our start to the season, Scotty! We haven't even played that well, yet have been getting the points - something we haven't been able to do in recent years.

The Mig is a champion. Pretty sure I already have a man crush on him. He's such a fantastic shot stopper, which is the quality you most want in a keeper! I reckon if Reina was in goal for our first two matches, we might have been looking at two draws rather than two wins.

I also notice Fabio Borini has headed off on loan to the Mackems, as has former red, Andrea Dossena! I really like Borini, and I think he's been highly unfortunate in his time with us so far - a few injuries have prevented him from getting a proper run. He's still very young and raw, but to me, he looks like your old school 'fox in the box' type striker. He's highly rated in Italy, and I think a few have compared him to Pippo Inzaghi. He definitely has the talent, it's just whether he can fully adjust to the pace of the premier league. Knocked in a decent number of goals when he was at Swansea, and at Roma as well, so you know he's capable. Really, really want to see him do well for you lads, as he's a likeable fella with a great attitude.

As for Dossena... well, he didn't have a great time at Liverpool, never really established himself. But, I'll never forget his wonderful lobbed goal against the Mancs when we beat them 4-1! It was beautiful to watch.

I'm pretty stoked with how our transfer window went. The stand out has to be the signing of Sakho. Can't wait to see the big fella line up at the back for us. He's just what we've been missing since Hyypia left - an imposing and physical centre-half.

Ronaldo last night. That's just mean! :tongue_smilie:

How about those Socceroos. Looking good for the world cup....

yeah, I paid 8500 for flights to brazil for my partner and I on Saturday, got up and watched the 6-0 on Sunday morning and thought hmm maybe I should've held off on that for a bit. :p

nah it'll be fun, i don't expect us to get out of the group stage but i have tickets for the second round just in case ...

Where did you book flights through?

Flight Centre, but after the second round we're off for our belated honeymoon to Cancun for a week, so that probably adds some expense as well.

Is that only flights, or does it include accommodation as well?

yeah, flights only, no accomodation booked at either cancun or brazil (can't book until the groups are decided).

06.06.13 10:35 am Brisbane to L.A
08.06.13 10:40 pm L.A to Sao Paulo
02.07.13 08.05 pm Rio De Janeiro to Miami
03.07.13 07.10 am Miami to Cancun
10.07.13 04:45 pm Cancun to Dallas
10.07.13 09.55 pm Dallas to Brisbane

Itinerary ^

it's getting more and more exxy as it gets closer to, can't imagine what it would cost trying to book in december when the groups are decided. =/ thankfully it'll only be regional flights or some other form of mass transportation.
