Big Pete - way too harsh on Slater... say what you will about 08 but come on... that knock on was big but it wasn't the be all and end all. Furthermore just one second of complacency... wasn't a brain snap or WTF moment.

Mate Slater was off the entire night.

Yeh true, your points on Slater are fair enugh... just don't think he should be condemned for one off night... (ala Locky from non-bronco fans)

I do agree about Locky and Slater playing that 3rd game. They should have played.

It isn't just one off night though, he's had these troubles in big games before (Grand Final 2009, Origin Series 2009, Origin 2008, Origin 2005 etc.)

I don't think he deserves to be dropped just yet but he certainly keeps the spot ajar for the likes of Dugan, Hayne or Coote.

Is it wrong that I don't really care we lost, if it was Broncos or Qld may be another matter but whilst I watched the game it is mid November and can't say I really care for league at this time of the year.

Yes the pass was forward, yes some of Sheen's selections were terrible (Tuqiri vs Boyd), yes Locky had no influence on the game at all and hasn't most of the series, but NZ wanted it more and got the win.

yep, i didnt even watch the game haha.

Lockyer was outstanding tonight, his defense was great I think I saw one badish pass, the way he was directing everyone behind the line, covering holes in defense moving players around was fantastic. They would have walked us tonight if it wasn't for his directing off the ball.

^ This. Anyone saying Locky had no influence is being harsh. He was sharp tonight. Problem was his forwards weren't running good lines and the backs were terrible. Tonga, Tuqiri, Morris, Slater, Gidley...horrible.

I feel shattered for Tatey. Great bloke, such a passionate player, this third knee recon would just about end his career I reckon.

In the end I think Australia lost because they played half the game with only 2 people on the bench.

Team selections played a part in the lose imo. Tuqiri was a joke and so was leahroy lahrs

I don't really have anything more to add other than - the one positive that will come out of this for Australia is that Sheens will be gone.

For a moment there, I thought you were talking about Wallace at the Broncos... [icon_razz1

Hear hear! icon_thumbs_u

The game was very close because we only had 2 ppl on the bench, we lost because the ref or linesman couldn't mangae to see a 7m forward pass. No team deserves to lose a big game like that off such an obvious error. These guys are pros FFs .
There is no reason why the vid ref shouldn't be allowed to rule on forward passes with the benefit of the doubt rule. Unless they are 100% sure they can just bail and use the BoD.

Meh, crap decisions went both ways.

Kiwis turned it around from last week and they deserve full credit for that.

The last play was terrible all round, especially Tuquiri's decision to have dropped back so far, and stay there even when it was clear the Benji was going to run it.

He should have been up Slater covering that side and Morris drop back on the other side.

Slater Haterz - blaming Slater for the loss is a stretch. He dropped a bomb but then made a clutch play cleaning up that grubber, takes some mental toughness to make a play like that after dropping the ball moments earlier.

Sheens picking Tuqiri was the biggest mistake. Boyd would have turned quicker and stopped Nightingale from scoring and Boyd would have defended that last try better. Sheens proved his shitness as a coach - he couldn't even devise a gameplan to shut down a player he has coached for how many years now? When he has good teams they go well (ie. 90's Raiders). When he has shit teams they go terribly (90's Cowboys).

On top of that Archer was shit house. He was right there on that 7m forward pass and didn't fucking call it!

Where was the 40-10 scoreline AP? Thought that's all that happens in Internationals. [icon_lol1.

Or is it the refs fault you were wrong?
well Australia were down to 15 men before half time, and had to replace a center with Gidley, so is it *really* any wonder why we didnt run away with it? 15 on 17 for over half the match......

i love how the entire series has just been full of matches where someone wins by 30+, and you gloat over a SINGLE game being close. a game that was marred by injuries and terrible referee decisions, one which literally awarded the match to a team that shouldnt have won.

even i didnt see you coming out and bragging about this one, but i guess i overestimated your intelligence. dont worry, it wont happen again icon_thumbs_u

What is it with Billy Slater and playing NZ at Suncorp? Those last 10 mins were diabolical! First being too nonchalant to pick up a ball and ending up being pushed in goal, then that knock on and finally the positioning on the play that dictated our defeat. FU Slater![icon_non
so youre blaming Slater for 2 things that were out of his control, and a knock on that he did - which actually wasnt a knock on since it hit his hands, then bounced off his knees, then hit the ground, meaning its play-on - that didnt actually result in any points to NZ? remember they dropped the ball like 2 tackles into their set after he knocked on.

'being too nonchalant to pick up a ball and ending up being pushed in goal'? he got an absolutely horror bounce. it was the right move to wait for it to bounce over the dead ball line, and 99 times out of 100 it would have.

and his positioning for the final play? you mean the one where he thumped the ball carrier into touch, causing him to throw a pass that went 7m forward? are you SERIOUSLY going to say that he did something wrong there? in a 2-on-1 situation like that, youre told to take the man with the ball. he took the man with the ball, and if the referees hadve done their job they wouldve called NZ up for the blatantly forward pass and we wouldnt be having this conversation.

We lost because we had Gidley in the side. [icon_razz1

I agree AP about the knock on. It will be called a knock on every time it happens but with his hands facing straight backwards and the next point of contact is his knee, possibly brushed the torso which is no knock on either, that can never be a knock on. It's not touch footy, ......yet.

Oh please, this was the only Kiwi match that meant anything and guess what AP, it was competitive. You can make all the excuses you want to but really the excuses you're making...it sounds A LOT like an Origin game.

Slater misjudging the kick and dropping the bomb and not positioning himself for the Nightingale try was what cost the Aussies.

Again, Slater is inconsistent at this level.

what ever he plays very well for QLD

This year for sure.

2009? No.

2008? Off the bench he was good, shame he had to have his positioned baby sat by Karmichael.

2005? No.
