OFFICIAL Gamble re-signs

Walker was the only **** up in that lot
I think they could have complemented eachother's games pretty nicely. They are just the more recent, youngest examples though.

To say that letting go of Walsh wasn't a f up.. That's just a lie

absolutely not ... Walsh was a player that left not only for cash, but because he couldn't wait a few weeks in the lower grades to prove he deserved the fullback spot.

he wasn't even prepared, to try and beat Isaako for the role. (it's not like he had Teddy or Turbo in front of him) that's the type of entitlement that is better off being far away from our club. we've had far too much of it around here

Dearden should consider his 300k contract with the Cowboys as charity. thank god we didn't try to re-sign him

We didn't let Walsh go. We offered him a contract, he took a better one. If we let him go we wouldn't have made him an offer. It's so naive to say we let him leave when that's clearly not the case. We also tried to keep Walker but he chose to leave so we didn't let him go either. The only young player we let walk out the door from the ones you mentioned is Dearden.

Not sure about the rest of BHQ, but to me it feels like a massive lingering cloud has began to lift from the club. Sunday's game was a definite ray of sunshine breaking through that 'fog of uncertainty'. At long last our club (and my spirits) are back on an upwards trajectory.

A solid win against the Tigers will go along way to bringing some much needed sunshine back to the club and help make us believe that the good times are-a-coming. TBH I thought I'd be pissed when TPJ left us, but I can now see his talent was just not on show consistently enough for us to persevere with him. We need honest toilers who put the team first. More collective action than individual gain.

We did not show enough confidence in Walsh, Walker and Dearden and that's ultimately why they left.

Dearden was given 12 games last year (of a possible 14 games since his selection) and 5 games this year (out of 8 possible).

Of those we lost 12 last year and 4 this year. The guy was involved in 16 losses out of 17 games and only missed out on 5 games during that spread of games. That's a pretty fair crack at an opportunity.

He now has 3 losses for the Cowboys out of 3 games.

Not saying he is the sole reason for that dog shit win ratio but it does help the argument he is a dime a dozen young NRL halfback so i think until he turns things around and actually shows he is a cut above a standard half we can remove his name from these posts attempting to have a go at the clubs recent recruitment.

Nonsense. We never got a look at Walsh at senior level and the Walker fuckup and the reasons around it have been covered on here ad nauseam already by @1910.

With Walsh, how is this different to most other players on the lookout for top dollar? I would have liked to see Walsh and Reynolds in the halves next year, with Niu at FB. Gamble is a great signing, but I see him more as a quality utility than a specialist 5/8.

As for Dearden, so far for mine, he is showing nothing to suggest he is anything special. So far. Unlike Walsh and Walker.

I've always had this feeling over the years that we have been too reluctant both to recognise talent AND lock it in. We know the many examples, and hookers come to mind. As well, we have, to my mind, gone and signed or re-signed has-beens like T'eo, Glenn, Hunt, Boyd, and Luke, arguing experience, but ignoring talent, and future development.

True. Now the Warriors have all the time in the world to get a good look at him at senior level.

This is true, but warriors will have to pay through the teeth to keep him in NZ.

I can see an upgrade an extension having to come possibly as early as next year in order to keep him.

They took a punt on Walsh and it's paying off, but pretty soon he'll be asking for near enough to what RTS was getting in order to keep him there.

That's like saying when the Cowboys signed Thurston as a young lad it wasn't worth it because they'd eventually have to pay more money to hold onto him in the future due to how good he was.

Walsh should have started the year at fullback. We need to show confidence in young players.. Not mess them around until all their confidence is gone.

The fact that Paix hasn't been given a shot in the halves for us is absolutely laughable when considering all the players we have tried before him.

I'm more getting across that he left us for cash and now that his form is blowing up, I can see the warriors having to invest heavily to keep him.

As of November 1 next year he'll be a free agent and Broncos can go back in for him if they want.

I just feel he may be a flight risk and therefore not really a long term option for the warriors unless they're willing to fork out serious cash to keep him. JT was loyal to the cows and was influential enough that they could put some lesser players around him, but they still only won 1 premiership across the 14-15yrs that he was there.

If he stays in NZ they will probably be forking out $700-$800k over 3-4yrs as early as 2023 in order to keep him, which might be a bit steep for a guy who's played half a season against men. Could even be more than that if they delay re-signing him to the back end of next year.

I think it will put a very short clock on their premiership window opportunity. They're putting some good forwards around him and now have SJ in the halves on the cheap, but if his salary blows up will they be able to keep talent around him and will he be able to deliver wins with lesser players... or will he just bail to get more cash or go to a better team at a lower price (Latrell style)

Looks to have the makings of a Ponga will he won't he situation ... where they're mostly a mid-tier team, but no real threat to the premiership and have a cloud constantly hanging over them that their star player could leave at any moment
