Golf - Who Plays?

I was a member at Brisbane many years ago but I’ve since moved to country Victoria. There isn’t any water on my course so you can save a bad tee shot most of the time.

Virginia is a good track
Love Brisbane. Have an albatross on the first hole there.

Where do you play?

I'm a member at Virginia currently.
Yea my handicap was +2 but lost it. I was playing in the blue mountains nsw and winning alot of opens there. I am currently in Parramatta and looking at joining Oatelands. Just most of the courses around I live atm are quite expensive.

Just seen a few reels on the pro's and what's in the bag. What's in the bag for you guys

For me;

Driver TSR3 8deg
Callaway ST Max 15deg
Titleist U505 2iron
Callaway apex pro 2021 4-pw
Callaway Jaws wedges 52/56/60
Scotty Cameron Phantom
Tp5 balls.

Want to upgrade to a lab putter and replace the 3 wood with a 4wood.

Mine is the biggest hand me down hodgepodge set ever including like 5 different brands and 80 dollar dented driver I grabbed from Vic Park when i first started.

Let me collate the monstrosity and get back to you.

Played torrey pines north a week ago. Lovely course. Got paired with an old couple and the lady ended up being the former communications spokesperson for PGA national. Still works for the PGA in a different role. Lives next to the bear trap. Great couple to play and talk shit with. She was just so smooth with her swing, effortless and always dead centre of the fairway.

Will get back and play torrey pines south next time.

Had my first round since May on Sunday. Not a bad hit. Had a few bad holes but mostly happy with it.

Started around 2 months ago, never really had a hit before that, but a mate has dragged me in.

Got a real old hand me down set that I doubt was worth much to begin with. But it'll do for now.

Haven't played a round yet, just trying to get to the range once a week. Holy shit it's difficult... 😂

Iron and short game I am getting much more consistent swings but my driving is beyond terrible.

It's certainly a journey.

First 2 years of playing I just hit irons off the tee lol. It sucked but I scored better.

I honestly think this is what I'll be doing. At least it's more chance of being straight 😂

Yeah I still can't drive for shit after almost 2 years.

Do I hit irons off the tee instead? No because I like pain.

That's elite. Would love to play some courses in America.

Always nice to get a birdie on the card. Once you get rid of the triples and most of the doubles, you'll be low teen handicap.

I've hit an absolute rough patch on my golf, handicap has ballooned from 1.8 to 5.5 at the moment. Although travelling to NZ and get to play Jacks Point in Queenstown, and when I get back will be joining Brookwater, so doubt that will help the handicap come down.

Ok so I finally got around to this because I'm procrastinating WFH, behold my hodgepodge set in all its glory.

Driver: Retco Cx7 (I have never heard of this brand, I needed a driver when I first started out and it was 80 bucks from Vic park. Comes with a large dent in the head, which I can only assume makes it way more aerodynamic (lol)).
Hybrid: Titleist H1 816 (I rarely use this because I can't hit hybrids for shit, I never get any height on them so I always end using a 5i instead)
3i: Taylormade Stealth (donation from a friend who didn't like it anymore, kinda my 4i replacement as I broke the shaft on a tree)
5i, 6i, 7i: Cobra S3 Max
8i: Titleist 990 DCI
9i: Brosnan Taipain MK8
PW: Spalding era-1 EX
52: Callaway Mack Daddy (love this wedge)
56: Cleveland Rtx 3 (Also like this wedge, but not as much as the 52)
61: Titleist elk (I never use the 61 tbh and will probably take it out of my bag soon)
Putter: Cleveland TFI Cero (got given this last week by a friend, was previously using a brosnan taipan)

And yeah they've all got different grips. It's just a blast each week really not knowing what your club is going to give you as you're constantly changing feel between all the different clubs, grips, weightings etc.

Balls I just grab a 50 pack of yellow premiums from lostgolfballs. From the various ones I've used, I really like the feel of Volvik softs. I'm never using tp5's or any high end brand because I'll just pump them into the state forest anyway and never see them again.

I played with Titleist T350 irons at Torrey Pines and they felt super nice along with the Vokey SM8 wedges, so they are definitely something I will keep an eye on when I lash out and grab a new set, probably early next year. Happy to drop a few K on a good set that will last me a few years. Happy to take suggestions from those that have splurged on their own sets, I'll do a fitting session and go through a few and see what feels nice, but any ideas would be appreciated.

I've heard some of the bunkers at Brookwater are next level bullshit. It's on my list of things to do pretty soon.

Playing at Carbook this Sunday. Never played there before so keen to hit some balls into the drink.
