Gorden Tallis

Yeah all the boys who played Super League would have a pretty healthy bank balance anyway!

um..... I've watched the broncos and bulldogs heaps, SBW IMO is easily better than tallis, but they never played together so no use comparing i think.

Tallis and SBW may both play in the back row but that is where the similarities end, they both bring different things to the game and it would be very hard to say who was better. I myself would edge towards Tallis due to his massive impact on games, but SBW is quality across the board. SBW is more a Menzies or Gene Miles type of player while Tallis is rare individual with huge strenght and enormous mongrel effect.

IMO yes. If he can still injury free and keep his head screwed on (staying away from mundine would be a good start!!)

hahahaha if he can stay injury free!! [icon_drun [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1.

Even if SBW could saty injury free [icon_drun I still reckon Tallis would be considered the better player!!

Tallis was on the fox footy show just then talking with the panel about Gaz making a million a year and going overseas.

One of the guys asked him whats the most he was offered, he didn't want to say but after a little pressure said that in 1999 he was offered:

$750,000 a year for 7 years

But didn't say which club. He said he knocked it back because he wanted to play in QLD and stay with his mates.

RESPECT

Thats probably drawing a bit of a long bow

But i do remember how Tallis was about to become one of leagues biggest earners just before he had his neck injury. I believe "first million dollar player" is what the papers reckoned.

So you really think SBW will improve enough to be a better player then Tallis was in his prime? I doubt it.

Based on what? Tarrot card readings? Nostradamus prophecies? Crystal ball gazings?

You have no idea what can happen. He may, he may not.

Exactly. Nobody KNOWS so we're SPECULATING.

Even at this point in their respective careers (5th season), Tallis was already starting to dominate, despite missing an entire year through contract dispute.

Tallis debuted in one of the last rounds of 1992, but his first full season was 1993.
Missed 1996.
Won a premiership with the Broncos in 1997 and was probably the year's most dominant back rower, pity the game was split so hard to be sure.

Williams debuted in 2004, round 1.
He's had a few very devastating performances, a lot of injuries and a lot of average efforts.

I'd take Tallis 1997 over Williams 2008.

Based on watching both of them play, speculating, Ofcourse I'm not ruling it out completely, but i feel he wont be as good.

I would have to say an Englaish club as well.
Back in the day of a $3 to 1GBP currency exchange rate.

Likewise.

SBW definitely has more elements to his game than Tallis ever had, that's for sure. That doesn't make him a better player, though, and he definitely isn't there yet.

IMO no point speculating. It's almost weird to think how long the likes of SBW and Hunt have been around (since 2004) and they still have ages to go in their careers, as long as injuries are kind to them!

SBW isn't fit to clean the shit off the soles of prime Tallis' shoes. Anyone who thinks otherwise should stop watching league and seek help.

SBW has talents and skills that Big Gordy never had, but who cares?
Gordy was the biggest pump up player's player I've seen in my time, he was someonme you wanted in your side, he used to rile the team up... big game player!

Even if you have all the skills in the world, it doesn't make you a better player unless you perform better on the field and actually use them on a consistant basis!

Gordy ripped in every week and tore the opposition apart with sheer aggression and strength.

SBW CAN tear teams apart with his strength, his footwork and his skill - He rarely does it consistantly and gets injured all the time.

SBW has a long way to go.

And it seems whenever SBW really DOES rip in and tear a team apart he injures himself and can't play the next week.

Tallis was more robust. He did the damage, and backed it up to do it again and again!
