NEWS Greenberg resigns

It was a mutual agreement. The fucker was sacked.

I wonder who'll be the next saviour who'll eventually become hated by all.

This ia a list of the contenders:
"Include NSWRL boss David Trodden, Canberra CEO Don Furner and Channel 9 personality Phil Gould.

Others discussed for the top job are NRL commercial officer Andrew Abdo, former Channel 9 boss David Gyngell, South Sydney CEO Blake Solly and Accor COO Simon McGrath."

I mean, ffs, anyone notice a theme here? SUPER LEAGUE WAS NOT A MISTAKE...

It'll never not be an old boys club.

I can see Furner getting the gig. His proximity to the politicians in Canberra would be considered a useful connection to have

Well whoever it is can't **** up because they will be overseeing the next TV rights deal... and it has become abundantly clear that the NRL can't survive without money from the media corps

Phil Gould has been asked this question and unequivocally denied any interest in the job ...

and if someone like Trodden is given the job ... you may as well just rename the NRL, the NSWRL and be done with it

Does Phil Gould know how to run a business let alone a football club?

Good riddance......
Never liked him, never wanted him in the job, and while he didn't screw up everything he touched, he wasn't far away from it.
I would argue that the game went backwards under his 'leadership' but that's just my opinion.
What cannot be argued is that the NRL has been massively overstaffed (and thus extremely poorly managed) and has not used it's massive windfall responsibly, and the CEO is always going to go because of that.

Not sure how interested he'd be in the job, or how seriously they'd consider him, but there is at least one CEO about to become available who has plenty of commercial runs on the board and would seem to have far better credentials than many of the other candidates. Coming from the ultimate 'Out of Sydney' club might hurt his chances significantly though.

Realistically though, V'Landys should probably just act as an Executive Chairman for the next 6-12 months whilst the game negotiates the current health crisis. With pay cuts across the board, a CEO's salary seems to be something the game can manage without for the next little while if they have such a powerful Chairman already realistically calling the shots.

Abdo is filling the role as of today.

Trodden has done a great job as the NSWRL boss. Fixed a lot of links between the top and country NSW football and had Origin success too. He was a lawyer for a long while too.

Abdo will be the favourite. If he does a good job filling in that sets you up to be given the job.

He's had success at origin? So what?

Generally you only have success at Origin if you have everything below it working well. As the boss at NSWRL having everything working well in all their pathways up to Origin and then success at Origin shows they're working well at the moment- something that hasn't always been the case with State run football. He's turned th NSWRL around and given it one direction and shown he can run a state.

So a Queenslander should have been in charge of the NRL for a decade.
