I agree with guppy. If we can afford it then we should do it.
Foordy said:BRISBANE have re-emerged as the leading contenders to land Greg Inglis after raising their offer for the Melbourne and Test centre to a figure believed to be more than $570,000 a season.
It is understood the Storm are prepared to release Inglis, and subsequently subsidise the 23-year-old's contract by less than $55,000 a year, but are hoping to possibly have that listed under the NRL second-tier cap next year, not the $4.2 million top-line payment ceiling.
An announcement on Inglis's future had been expected yesterday, and it was anticipated the Storm would reveal they were keeping him. However, the Herald was told the Broncos had finally decided to budge on an offer of $400,000 and a car.
It is believed the rise in their offer of $170,000 a season includes a $40,000 third-party payment by the Nine Network, a Broncos club sponsor. NRL salary cap auditor Ian Schubert, who was in continuing discussions with the Broncos and the Storm yesterday, has insisted this figure be included under Brisbane's cap under the marquee-player allowance, which is to be lifted from $150,000 to $300,000 for each club next year.
Inglis and his manager Allan Gainey have made clear since the saga over his future began that the player's preference is to move to Brisbane, where his fiancee Sally Robinson lives and works.

not happy about paying that much for him at all... if thats the offer i hope he doesn't get released. especially after Cullen had been so insistant for the last 3-4 weeks that we would NOT increase our offer to him. [icon_non

That's business though. He called our bluff. Good on him.
I say throw whatever pocket change we can find at him. He's a game breaker.
I think that most people are concerned about our ability to retain Sammy Thaiday next year if we payningnangnong said:guppy said:Foordy said:not happy about paying that much for him at all... if thats the offer i hope he doesn't get released. especially after Cullen had been so insistant for the last 3-4 weeks that we would NOT increase our offer to him. This.
Also, I can't understand why everyone is getting so uptight about what we're paying him, last time I checked it's not your own money we're using. Despite all the crap he gets, Bruno knows what he's doing.
I guarantee you we've secured every player we need to. We've been left with a surplus of cash, so we're using it to sign one of the best players in the game.

Coxy said:Hmm, if we do pay him $570K per year then I hope he cuts out the pies and starts actually playing every week. He's a horribly lazy player during the season.

You reckon we will use him a lot better though? I think he will find himself in a lot more space close to the line at the Broncos.
Thats if he is coming.........

good for Hodges, but its not about what the player wants, its what the club wants. Hodges has been a monumental waste of a huge chunk of our salary cap for pretty much his entire broncos career. if he plays well next year, provided he gets on the field more than a handful of times, throw him a one year contract on a reduced wage. if he says he wants more/longer, show him the door.Foordy said:Hodges has said that he wants at least one more Broncos contract before possibly heading to England to finish his career.
