Roosters Bulldogs game last sunday seriously they get more wrong then they do right these days.Ruines the game for both sides. I swear the ref had something againts Braith that night.
Huge. said:I want to see a replay of the perfect team versus the Broncos. The team who never made a single error or infringed on the rules once during an entire match. Not a single penalty conceded. An example to others how a team should play and should be compulsory viewing for all teams.
Anyone have a copy or know where to find one...it was a few years back and I forget the perfect teams name but the penalty count was 10 nil against the Broncos. Also like to see the game where Harrigan cheated the Broncos out of a semi final(final?)....
Bingo. He went so far out of his way to prove he wasn't biased towards us, and Queensland in origin too, that he was biased against us.Huge. said:I remember how Harrigan was changed from a good and fair ref to an out and out cheat. He was a victim of subtle psychological manipulation via the media. One journalist, whilst researching some stats, discovered Brisbanes overall record under Harrigan who was, at the time, lauded as an excellent example of the modern referee. He kept games flowing and wanted a quick and clean ruck. Everyone liked it and Brisbane liked it a lot too as it perfectly suited our style.
Brisbane flourished under that style of reffing but it was an unintentional side effect. When the journalist decided on his head-line for the article he settled on......BRONCO BILLY !!!!!.....he went on to high-light Brisbanes performances under Harrigan and subtly insinuated Harrigan had a preference and bias towards Brisbane.
Brisbane never again prospered under Harrigan from the time of that story. In fact, as some of you know , he crucified us time and again going as far as possible to deny what he perceived in the story. I hated Harrigan and his arrogance but mostly his obvious bias and his weakness in succumbing to the media pressure.
The Brizz said:The refereeing wasn't that bad, the Gidley interference by the law was the correct call (but he should have gone to the bin) so was a mistake certainly not a penalty try. Other than that I didn't see many calls that were blatantly bad calls, we got flogged and deserved to.
+1 to this. The referees were oblivious to any foul play by the Knights but kept penalising us for the smallest things, like Wallace for not "acting like he was rolling off", pathetic calls like that all night. Strip, out on the full, Gidley sin bin, the "refs call" try which never got close to touching the ground, sideline kick, so called "dangerous tackle" and I lost count of how many 5th tackle penalties they got for things both teams were doing all game.schmix said:The Brizz said:The refereeing wasn't that bad, the Gidley interference by the law was the correct call (but he should have gone to the bin) so was a mistake certainly not a penalty try. Really? I thought they had an absolute shocker. I'm ok with no penalty try, but Gidley should have been in the bin. Instead he went on to score a try in the next set. They called six again for a strip when the Broncos didn't even touch it - Knights score the next set. They completely missed a kick that went out on the full. They constantly called niggly penalties on the last tackle when both teams had been doing it all game.
Broncos were terrible, yes, but even if they had played well they would have had a hard time getting into that game.
Henjak's angst was also directed at the decision of NRL referees boss Robert Finch to assign Ben Cummins Friday night's match after a week in which the Knights publicly criticised his refereeing.
"Newcastle didn't have any trouble winning penalties with Ben Cummins tonight," Henjak said.
"Fifth-and-last penalties, I'm not saying that lost us the game, but I just find it amazing that a club publicly attacks a referee all week and they put that referee on their home game.
"It's real smart."
Asked about the penalty try ruling, Henjak returned fire: "What did you think?"
The verdict was unanimous. Penalty try.
"That's something for the officials to work out...ask Robert Finch. They've (officials) got me beat," Henjak said.
