Hodges may retire at the end of this year

I honestly can't see how a Broncos fan who's supposedly seen every game can honestly say Dale Copley has done nothing.

Seriously, what's the take-home when you see a performance like Round 19 2014 where he basically won Brisbane the game against the Warriors? Is that conveniently pushed to the side with his 16 tries for the season?

He's a quality player. Sure, he isn't in the mold of a Justin Hodges, he isn't a superstar waiting in the wings but he's certainly first grade standard and can definitely chip in.

Ben barba won the dally m and scored a bucketload of tries - most teams wouldn't want a bar of him these days.

I think he's average and i've maintained that opinion for a long time. Never once said he's shit, just that he's not as good as everyone thinks he is - the very definition of overrated.

So instead of saying it's pessimism, add the reasons why you think Kahu WILL be great, or add a reason why Copley WON'T be great.

It's actually called an opinion, so don't even try to drag me into some BS agenda argument, I didn't say anything about the state of our current team, just how I think Kahu will end up being nothing more than average.

Didn't you get the memo? you can't say anything against the likes of kahu or ash taylor (both future immortals)... but if it is maranta, reed or boyd then rip the **** in

If that's what you mean then that's fine.

However, that isn't what you originally said. What you said was that he had 'seriously done nothing' which is rubbish for all the reasons I gave you.

The big thing Copley has shown is that h will give 110% even when the mates around him are playing like busted assholes. He may not be the greatest, but a player who gives his all is far better in a team than a superstar who coasts on a massive wage.

I don't agree when it comes to Boyd but Maranta and Reed? Yeah sure fine, rip into them, because they're actually, you know, bog average footballers?

bad phrasing

should've read, 'has seriously done nothing to deserve the rating some people are giving him'

That's better but even then his 2014 was nothing to sneeze at either.

I'm not sure what your impression is of this supposed rating, but for mine being preferred over Reed isn't exactly going out on a limb.

They have both been mediocre this year.

But I still think Reed has done more than Copley this year.

He was good against the Eels, and he has been solid defensively. He has saved our asses quite a few times in defense..

I'm the other way. I think Copley has been better. His game against the Roosters being the best. Moving all over the backline hasn't help him either.

I also think Copley has more runs on the board due to his form last year, while Reed has been shit for a couple of years now.

But it will be a real tragedy when the sticky tape holding Hodges together finally fails. He has been great for us since his return from the Roosters

For mine, based on the touches of class he has shown, and given confidence, stability and experience, I actually can see Copley being in the top tier of centres. He has size, strength, a great swerve, he can pass the ball, has excellent footwork and at his best is a great defender. He hits in his tackles. Great to see.

I think people are selling him short. I expect to see the best of Copley in the not too distant future.

As for Reed, he has been solid with touches of mediocrity. I have always maintained he is a fine winger based on his time there last year in particular. I prefer him to Vidot or Maranta. When he has a little less to do positionally wing v centre, he does it really well, and he can fill in in the back row for mine if needed. I'd keep him ... on the wing.

Looks like BJ Leilua will be getting a release from the Knights at the end of year.

If Hodges does retire/go to England I'm assuming the media will start saying he possibly will come to the Broncos.

Are there any players going around that debuted before Hodges? I know he hasn't played as many games as some, but he's missed a good two seasons at least collectively through injury (considering all of 2010 he was out). Not sure if there's a stat for debut round, the only player I can think of off-hand might be Gidley.
