Hodges may retire at the end of this year

Yeah it is a bit disrespecting to the great man to keep this halves talk going on in this thread, my bad. Personally hope Hodges stays around for a season or two more, even when he suffers a serious injury he always seems to come back and fit right in well. We should not risk him at all and just save him for the finals haha.

Can't really remember how good Kahu's footwork is but I remember there was an article about him not really showing what he can do from a confidence thing I think? His tap ons were all class though, very Hodges like. I wouldn't be against him having the Hodges roam role when Justin's out.

I would love to see Hodges go around another year but if he decides to pull the pin, we have Copley or Kahu that can capably fill in. Whilst they are no where near the talent of Hodges, they each have there plus' and minus'. Plus you don't normally get a top centre to switch clubs unless you pay a ridiculous amount of money for them.

Re moving Boyd to centre, lets just see how he goes for the rest of the year at fullback. I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised on how well he will link up with our outside backs. He will remind us of the old days with K Hunt at the back. Ash Taylor will have to bide his time. Trust me when I say this, if he is kicking the wall down with massive performances week in week out, Bennett will make room for him. Bennett isn't one to ignore talent and isn't afraid to give talented players a go. Hell, he dropped Newcastle's favourite Uate to reserves last year to give Mata'utai a run because he was knocking the door down.

I reckon Kahu would make the ideal replacement for Hodges. From what I have seen, his footwork is first class, he can pass, he can catch the high ball, he's quick, good swerve, and in many ways, is what Copley is very good at when at his best.

For mine, a Kahu-Copley centre pairing would be excellent in attack and defence (of course given they play to their potential)

Just if anyone was wondering about where Copley stands.

“Justin has a year remaining on his contract, that is the guarantee. But will he play next year .... that remains to be seen,” Bennett said.

Bennett says it is Broncos policy to let “champions players leave in a great light”.

“We have a very capable replacement in Dale Copley, but I would never ask a player to give it away.

So why is he in Q Cup? Injury?

I hope he goes out with a premiership, he deserves it. I hope the football gods realize they owe us one after what happened to Lockyer and make sure Hodges gets one.

I'll miss him when he is gone.

Great player and a top bloke. He was always up for a chat at the fan days.

He's not injured, played well on the weekend, scored a good try.

202m
14 hit ups
1 tackle
2 line breaks
1 offload
1 line breaks assist

He's working on things, some of you guys are so dramatic. You jump straight away to Bennett hates him!

Thanks 1910.

I completely agree. I'm sure he's just getting sent there to work on things that need work then will be released add a secret weapon in a game or two's time

According to Dobbo (......), Hodgo needs to hang up the boots so they can use his money to keep Kahu.

Dobbo. He also claimed to have the Qld team sheet "a week early" and then rattled off last year's team minus the injuries we had.

Because of everyone's ****ing agendas.

Keep it in the Taylor thread! Let's keep this about hodges and his future with our without the club and his potential replacements. . That's on Topic.

I Hope Reed and maranta hit form and learn how to strike a good partnership (although maranta hasbhas been named on hodges' wing again)

I really hate the banking players in other positions bs. It cost me a first try scorer bet last week as i was expecting maramtas to be outside hodges.

Everyone has an agenda, and everyone has a story. That's what this place is all about.

As we are seeing in this thread, Hodges impending retirement has consequences for replacements across the whole backline (again as this thread rightly addresses), and for mine, that includes Taylor, as much as Reed and Maranta, Kahu, the Niko's, even maybe Milford, Hunt, Boyd, Copley.

The other issue which impacts on this scenario is when Hodges retires given a number of contracts are up at the end of '16

So it's not just a question of Hodges's retirement and his potential replacements, it also has implications for who we lose for '17 if we are that unlucky to lose some class juniors who might not get a run in the top grade in '17 (or even '16 if Hodges goes at the end of this year as he should imo.)

Heard on the radio that Bennett apparently said he probably won't be there next year and it might be time, but he's not going to push him.

while kahu would be an adequate replacement, a centre combo of copley/reed/kahu screams mediocrity. not much class at all in that, and coupled with our wingers, it's a pretty average backline.

far out though. . Those are some impressive stats! What about defensive work though? We got those numbers? Or did they just run at him once? :/
