Hodges may retire at the end of this year

it's extremely average. Everyone seemingly hates Reed and does not rate him. Everyone overrates Copley (he's seriously done nothing at NRL level but for some reason he has to be in the team every week or Bennett belongs in pall care). The less said about Maranta the better. Kahu can't stay on the field for 6 games a season without an injury ... I'd be interested to see how people would rate this as an adequate NRL backline without invoking the Boyd to wing, Milford to fullback argument.

Are you serious...

Kahu and Copley will become a great center pairing for us given the chance.

Many of us have been saying for years how talented the kid is, and he has only shown a fraction of that talent this year.

Copley has all the tools to become a great center. He showed some of that last year, where he was our leading try scorer. He just needs some damn consistency in his position instead of moving between center and wing, left side and right side. That would through off nearly anyones timing and understanding of the guys around him

Reed is average. But a handy back up

Maranta is decent under the high ball, but offers little else.

So you've agreed with me that Reed and Maranta are average.

And you've invoked a faith based argument on the other two.

Not exactly convincing.

Kahu has shown enough to suggest he will be a very handy player anywhere in a back line position. Copley has show glimpses of a high potential ceiling but who knows what kind of player he will end up being. Reed is a solid but unimpressive player and maranta had improved out of sight. Kind of like Copley, it depends where his development stops.

We could use a superstar in their somewhere no doubt but I think people are being harsh on our current crop.

If I were Bennett, I would be making a very serious play at either Semi Trailer Radradra or Alex Johnston

Faith based? Copley and Kahu have demonstrated that they're capable of being great footballers
No they haven't. They've shown they can be reliable footballers, not that they're great or could be great.

This is exactly what I mean by people overrating them. Neither of them have shown anything that deserves to be rated in the category of the games upper echelon.

BTW, I would certainly go after Semi but not Johnston, cause he wants to play fullback and I don't see him swapping Souths wing for our wing.

I disagree. I've seen what they can do when they're in top form and unencumbered by injury or fatigue. They have come up with some great individual efforts that have put the team into a better position in the game. Yes, because of injury, Copley and Kahu haven't been able to string together some consistency, but given time, I'm confident they will, and so is Bennett, and who are we to question his judgement?

Hodges is one of the best centres of the last decade. Replacing him is a tall order, but I think Kahu can make a fist of it, and is certainly the classiest player of the lot.

Copley needs to gain routine and confidence in one spot, but he is the best option we have for the left centre position imo. Hopefully he displaces Reed, but I'm not holding my breath...

The wings are definitely our most concerning area, and other than Byrnes, I don't see any players of future in the youth for that position.
Oates and Boyd would be a great pair of wingers of course, but it's not likely to happen, so we'll probably have to put up with Maranta's attacking mediocrity on one wing and... ??? on the other.

We'll agree to disagree, I too watch Brisbane every week and I've never understood why Copley has so much hype about him - I think Queenslander and I are the only ones on this forum that think he's not all that.

I think Kahu could be a good player, but he has to prove that by playing 1-2 seasons that consist of him playing the majority of each season without long term injuries. After he's done that, I'll be more than happy to reevaluate my stance if he's played well, but to blow your load over him when he's played about 20 games of NRL is stupid.

Anderson maybe, but while he's ripping it up in Q Cup, he's no guarantee in the NRL either.

I'd certainly give him a go though, it's not as if we're bursting at the seams with talent on the fringes.

I disagree. I think Copley will show that he's got what it takes, but I can't see him ever being at the level of a Hodges type player.

I think Kahu is going to surprise a lot of people in how mediocre and average he will be.

I honestly can't see how a Broncos fan who's supposedly seen every game can honestly say Dale Copley has done nothing.

Seriously, what's the take-home when you see a performance like Round 19 2014 where he basically won Brisbane the game against the Warriors? Is that conveniently pushed to the side with his 16 tries for the season?

He's a quality player. Sure, he isn't in the mold of a Justin Hodges, he isn't a superstar waiting in the wings but he's certainly first grade standard and can definitely chip in.

Sitting pretty on top of the ladder in both leagues yet still we see pessimism like this. It defies logic.

So instead of saying it's pessimism, add the reasons why you think Kahu WILL be great, or add a reason why Copley WON'T be great.

It's actually called an opinion, so don't even try to drag me into some BS agenda argument, I didn't say anything about the state of our current team, just how I think Kahu will end up being nothing more than average.
