Hodges to Captain Brisbane in 2015

Outstanding choice. As his self proclaimed #1 BHQ fan I completely approve of his appointment as captain. He's the heart and soul of the team, and time and time again proves to be our most dangerous player. Onya Hodges.

JUSTIN Hodges will join an elite Brisbane leadership club after staving off Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker to win the Broncos captaincy.

The Courier-Mail can reveal Hodges will be appointed Brisbane captain after impressing coach Wayne Bennett in a three-month audition for the post.

Hodges shared a leadership role with Parker last season but in Bennett's second term at Red Hill, the Maroons centre will be the main man.

Bennett declined to comment when contacted but Hodges has been privately notified. The Broncos will announce the appointment at their season launch on Friday night.

The installation of Hodges caps a remarkable turnaround for the 32-year-old, who was blacklisted by Broncos bosses after sensationally quitting the club in 2001.

While Parker and Thaiday had ambitions to be Brisbane’s on-field leader, Hodges’ maturity and popularity with players convinced Bennett he had earned the role.

Hodges, who turns 33 in May, is off contract at the end of next season but Bennett is not concerned about a short-term leadership appointment as he looks to groom McCullough and halfback Ben Hunt.

Sub editor should be sacked for allowing the headline.....unless of course it decribes how he got the job. Seriously, congrats to Hodgo; he's come a long way!!!

He's not really "joining" the elite ... He did that last year when he was made captain ... He just didn't lose it like Parker.

But congrats to him, i think he will make a good captain.

I'm happy with the decision.

He's a good onfield leader who obviously has the respect of the other players.

Hope he has a big '15 !

Only because you were here before me.

I'd love to see him stand down from origin to lead our team during traditionally our toughest time of the year.

I think this is a good choice. I feel for Parker but every time Hodges wears the c on his jumper he is always talking and trying to motivate the team. And the other thing I like is that he doesn't hold back after the opposition scores under the sticks with his talking. Ive seen Parker & Thaiday just go thru the motions if an opposition has scored but Hodges is at the back giving the boys a rev up. I just hope he can get thru this season uninjured.

Finally, something we agree on.

His body can't take another tough origin series, we really need him to stick around for the Broncos and be 100% healthy this season and next if we're going to do anything in the finals.

He has spoken at press conferences before and he always handled it very well.

He handled them in a professional manner.

Haha, not saying he isn't professional. I reckon some players and coaches just speak funny, especially Hodges.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't he quoted as saying he'd more than likely retire from rep footy next year to concentrate more on the Broncos ?

I'm sure i read that somewhere.

I haven't worked out how to quote from article yet bit I think this is what you are talking about.

And that includes at least two victories in this year's Origin Series. A permanent fixture in the Maroons' three-quarter line since making his representative debut in 2002, Hodges said he had no intention of retiring his Queensland post and every intention of reclaiming the jewel in rugby league's shiny crown.

"As long as [Brisbane are] looking good and healthy towards Origin time, the body's going good, I'll have to reassess then," Hodges said of any consideration to retiring from representative football.

"Like any football player, you wish you could play forever, but I'd still like to leave Origin a winner. I'd still like to play this year and hopefully get that shield back."

Out of the way you two. I'm staking my claim as the high priest of Hodgomania.

He'll make an ace captain: respected, forthright and pretty good with the refs and media. Plays with his heart on his sleeve and even though he's got a lot of miles on the clock still pulls off great plays and leads by example.

So proud of Hodgo after all his been through (injuries) and his deserves to captain a premiership side before he's retirement in a couple of years.

Hopefully he can stay injury free and get involved from fullback a fair bit this season. He needs to be drawing in players and offloading to Milford as well.

His implies ownership. He's is he is. I know it's nitpicking but come on guys.
