righto jeb, righto. head high tackles shouldnt be illegal, players should just harden the **** up.

Way to misinterpret. I thought you hated when people misinterpret eusa_think

i didnt misinterpret. you think that i need to harden up because i think the smartest/best way to return a ball isnt running directly into the waiting defenders. if thats the case, players need to harden up because its a contact sport and heads should be fair game too.

Hoffman had Hunt infront of him. Hunt was never going to be dropped so it's unfair to say that Hunt is better because he debuted at an earlier age.

It wasn't that he just debuted at an earlier age.

Hunt debuted and was an integral part of the side when he debuted.

When Hoffman debuted, he had obvious defects in his game, that needed two years to sort out.
If you have an established star player ahead of you it's going to take much longer to be promoted to first grade.

Hoffman could've been there when Hunt went down with the season ending injury in 2007. Why wasn't he?

He achieved so much at such a young age!! So he must be good going on Big Pete's thinking.

Are you seriously comparing making the 1995 Origin series to the 2006 series?

The coach didn't even know who Ikin was!

Everybody knew who Karmichael was, and he had to fend off challenges from Bowen, Schifcofske and Slater to make it. Who did Ikin have to fend off to make that team? Coxy?

and this year about 3-4 other players have been used in that exact same play and turned up the exact same results.

Wrong.

his 'ball playing' skills were really shown to be woeful when chosen at number 6 for QLD.

So were Slater's ability at Fullback. Thankfully the selectors came to their senses and picked the best man for the job at fullback to set a tone.

Without Hodges going to fullback, the Broncos was never going to win the premiership.

Debatable.

Hodges did cost us against the Dragons.

If Speical K was such a great player, why did Wayne shift Hodges to fullback and Hunt to wing?

Because Hunt suffered an injury in the 2nd clash against the Dragons (in the final minute) and Boyd wasn't cutting the mustard.

When Hunt came back, he was still underdone and they shifted him onto the wing and Hodges form was rewarded.

It was the turning point of the season.

It was apart of it.

The major part though was Berrigan in at hooker and the promotion of Sam Thaiday and Brad Thorn. Our forward pack became deadly and we were able to dominate games.

Grand final qualifier against the Bulldogs. Hunt started at fullback.
The Broncos were down 20 - 6 at half time.

Broncos had bugger all ball in that first half. When possession swung, the Broncos were able to win.

That play by Hodges though..orgasmic.

Hunt was a good player, but to say he's a rare talent is taking it too far.

Why?

I haven't seen too many players play like Hunt.

He had some wonderful characteristics about him, some that cannot be taught.

and on point 3, i will criticise his kick returns. they were stupid. running head on into the chasers IS taking a risk, because youre going to get smashed - and he DID get smashed from kick returns a LOT. not taking any risks would be getting the ball, getting to the defence on an angle, and surrendering in the tackle while protecting the ball.

The thing is, Hunt was able to do that AND get a roll on for his team.

I don't want to drag this further off-topic so I'll just sum up.

Hoffman has been great over the past couple of weeks and I for one am happy to see him perform so well.

However, I don't buy into the whole 'Karmichael Who' BS that comes out everytime somebody has a good game at fullback. It happened with Norman and it's happening again.

Judging from your first quote there, your primary concern with running the ball back hard is the fullback getting smashed. Whereas, the blokes who play football full time have no problem doing it. They want to put their bodies on the line to help their teammates. You always here in commentary how courageous Karmichael was, always used to hear how commentators loved seeing fullbacks run the ball back with such confidence.

Yet you think it's stupid because he might get hurt. You need to harden the **** up.

Hunt's returns were a risk but a calculated one. I think he realised he didn't have the speed or agility of someone like Slater, so he thought it would be better for the team if he just ate up as many metres as possible before getting to the defence.

And yeah he did get smashed but he always relished the physical contact. I remember him having a laugh about getting knocked out cold by Pritchard in that test match.

It was just his style and it was built perfectly for Origin. At times Slater still struggles with the physicality of it all.

How about Hoffman hey? How good is he going! So good to see a kid who excelled in Q Cup, come into NRL and struggle a little, finally find his feet and become an integral member of the team.

Excellent to see.

Yes, Hoffman has been amazing over the last month good to see, I hope he keeps improving..

I can't see why he won't. He's full of confidence and all the little mistakes in his game are slowly weeding out (only the one on the weekend I can remember, fumbling a kick that was a bit awkward). In attack he's popping up in all the right places, both on the 2nd man play and also supporting our forwards looking for an offload.

Most importantly, he's clearly enjoying himself out there! So great to see.

thats not why i think it stupid [icon_lol1.

i think its stupid because it lets the defenders get a dominant tackle and gives them a better chance at forcing a mistake. i couldnt care less if hunt got injured or not.

Hoffman is going great guns, and i have no doubt he can be more important to the club than Hunt was.

Can we please just keep it on the topic of Hoffman and leave the Hunt defence/bashing to another thread?

Aye.

Like I said, the most encouraging sign I've seen from Hoffman was that Sea Eagles game.

Back in the day, young Hoffy would have gone into his shell after making a few of those mistakes but the boy persevered and ended up being one of the best players on the park.

Also loving that Henjak has stopped trying to convert every fullback into Hunt. Hoffy is his own man, and the Broncos don't need that 3rd man shift to be succesful.

But at the same time they still do it, and Hoffman still executes it well.

AP & Jeb - We all well and truly know your respective view points on Karmichael Hunt. We no Longer require them.

Any further debates between either of you remotely relating to this topic will result in a Ban.

I disagree. He struggled with it a fair bit.

The side seems to be doing the in ball out ball play which Hoffman is excelling at.
